RE: sig large sundancer arf
I had finished my Sundancer several months ago but failing health kept me from getting it to the field and test hopping it. A couple of buddies finally coerced me to make the trip by promising to do most of the assembly and flying. Rob Stanley surprised me with the enclosed video. Hope you find it as enjoyable as I did. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Rg1xLAxGXQ Phil Heller

RE: You Got'em Post'em
Hi, I used to fly control line back in the 40's and 50's (yeah, I'm that old!) and have been flying RC ever since. About 4 months ago I spotted a Hornet 60 on Ebay and was fortunate (?) enough to win the bid. In 1946 (or 7) I saw Ernie Babcock win a full size Ercoupe at the Philadelphia Flying Circus with a Hornet powered little speedster called "Jughaid" at an amazing (for that time) 108 mph, (as close as I can remember). So, with the Hornet in hand and a small page of plan, I set up to build a replica of Ernie's record holder. See the attached photos. Unfortunately, the old Hornet needs some work before we can maiden the "jug", meanwhile I have caught the bug and have a few more old timers in the que - A Speedwagon with a Super Cyclone, a Hellhammer with an Atwood Champion, and a Perky with a yet to be decided engine. I am really having a ball!

Covering material
I recently assembled a SIG ARF of the Sun Dancer that had the best covering material I have ever seen! No wrinkles and the most beautiful opaque finish I have seen. They claim it is Oracover or Ultracoat (same stuff) but it is unlike any Ultracoat I have seen. It has an opaque white undercoat, at least on the bright yellow, dark yellow and true red that SIG used. It has been suggested it might be Toughlon from World Models. Anyone have a clue?

DeBolt Speed Plane
Way back in the mid 1940's I built a kit of a speed plane designed by Hal DeBolt called the "DeBolt Special" or "Dmeco Special" and powered it with a Hornet 60. This was not DeBolt's Speedplane with the curved fuselage and the speed cowl over the engine but an exposed cylinder and battery ignition. I would like to find a kit or plans for this airplane and a Hornet 60 (or replica) so I can duplicate that old speedster - (First one I had to break 100MPH!)

Hi Donoisten, The Sundancer originally sold for $399.99 - now on sale for 249.99, shipping on mine was included (at least another $40 saving)! Not listed as a clearance, but by all indications it appears to be. I would assume it is from China as the the workmanship is superior!! Grab one, they won't last at that price! www.sigmfg.com Phil

Hi Dirtybird Your wasting your time and efforts trying to debate ANY issue with xjet! He sees all subjects contrary to his views through the wrong end of a telescope! I have several of Polk's Seeker receivers. All work as advertised. Several club members also use them with excellent results. No one is using the transmitter though! Phil

Hi Alan, I had a similar problem with several of my planes after an extended storage in my garage while I was recuperating from surgery. Finally ended up by cleaning all my plug pins and replacing a few switches. Corrosion and "blackwire" had taken their toll! Check it out! Phil

RE: Gas engine smell? Aviation fuel?
I recall the story about the rural Doctor who was checking his gas tank for fuel by removing the gas cap and putting his ear to the neck of the gas tank and rocking the car to listen for a sloshing. A static spark jumped from his ear to the car and goodbye Doctor, car, garage and house! This stuff is dangerous! Phil
