RE: Simjet 2300 start up issue
Hi there, Thanks for your reply. If it was the pump why do you think that the engine being hot or cold would affect it? I had a PM: Hi Phil What type of ECU do you have, it sounds like a temp prope problem Best Kim Former simjet worker However I have PMd Kim a few times with no reply. Does anyone here know how to test the temp probe? And or change it? My ecu has AU 303 FADEC in large on it....

Simjet 2300 start up issue
Hi there, I have a second hand simjet 2300 that has developed a start problem. The engine always starts first time when its cold, but after one flight if you try to re-start when the engine changes from gas to fuel, the temp goes to 999c, no fuel goes in and the start up fails. Let the engine cool for a while and it will start fine. Does this sound like a fuel issue? Pump? Solenoid? Is there anyway to test this with the GSU? People at my club suggest that the temp going to 999c means there is no fuel going in, and its just running on the gas? Or you think start up setup? I assume you are suppose to be able to re-start these turbines straight away and fly repeatedly? Thanks in advance. Phil

RE: Ar9110 Receiver high fades and RX LED dimming?
Just as an update, I added the data logger to mine.... after 30 test turn ons, nothing, then all of a sudden, the light dimmed and cut out for a sec, and then the fades on both antennas started to run and run up to 999 on one and 250 is it on the other.... the radio still had control.... However after that my spektrun rx came out the model, there is a problem here. I will not use that rx again until I can find the problem.

RE: Ar9110 Receiver high fades and RX LED dimming?
I thought it may be the voltage going to the rx but have tested that and its 5.5v. I am running 6s lipo electric with the BEC in the esc.

RE: Ar9110 Receiver high fades and RX LED dimming?
Yes yes, I have been battling the same issue for a month now, and was beginning to think it was me..... mine is on a ar7100 I have posted on another thread that I was getting a glitchy servo... it would appear to be a pot in the servo or tx as the servo would not be smooth and jump.... but it was intermittent and I couldnt get it to do it twice. So I bought new servos and it got worse....... For 1 month now I have had the plane grounded trying to get it to repeat in vain..... however in the dark I first noticed this... sometimes the light on the rx will flash off, and then like you say, it dimmed.... I had not had the data logger in, but will try that now.... I think the rx will not work without the satellite... maybe it is a bad plug to the satellite? I am using the spektrum satellites that came with the rx. At least there are two of us!

RE: Servo sticking in center
Any more ideas with this would be appreciated.... I bought all new servo, and extension, fitted it and the problem was immediately worse..... Then after 30 more tests, could never get it to repeat..... Could it be the pots in the TX? Its a 9zap, maybe 1000 flights on it.... The servos appear to stick in one place like they are catching on something (they aren't) then suddenly jump to the correct position... Have hardly flown the plane this month, and have tested in 40 times, cannot get it to repeat.... its getting to the point where it would be cheaper to just crash it than waste anymore time..

RE: GOLDWING MX2
I have the 50 size 3d version on electric 6s 130 fights on it now.... The spats are pretty shot, unless your strip is very very smooth would leave them off.... The firewall/under carriage has a minimal ammount of glue.... my gear came off on the 7th flight (partly my fault) but with more glue it has done hundreds more flights now..... And the plane is very lightweight and fragile... Does fly well though I do like it.

If you could have done that in a 3D competition you would have cleaned up. The all new Machinchy 360 back flip. Camera zooms to the flight line and you just spit tobacco on the floor like Clint Eastwood in a Fist Full of Dollars and say 'oo wants it'

Servo sticking in center
Hi there, I have a Goldwing MX2 58" which now has 120 flights on it.. The elevator has a fairly cheap spektrum digital servo on it. When I first turn on, radio binds, I test all servos, and the elevator seems to hesitate (doesn't even move) then after a wiggle on the stick, shoots to life, and then works fine....... Haven't flown it since I saw this, and can't get it to repeat itself... do servos do this when the potentimeter track is worn around the center point? Any ideas or suggestions? Is this a common problem? Could it be the radio or tx? For the life of me cannot get it to do it again.... but for sure its done it today, and I thought I saw it last time I flew as well, but thought I was imagining it! 120 flights, its done say 12 hours of flying... do servos wear out that quick? Any suggestions welcome!

RE: IQ-Hammer Turbines
I have had great experience with Didi in Germany, and my old booster 160 so far seems great. One thing I am sure about is that people tend to only write on the internet when they have a problem, and are less motivated to write when things just work as they should. I would estimate that for every 1 person who complains on an internet forum (rather than complaining to the manufacturer) there is 10 people out there who just are using their gear with no motivation to tell everyone about it.

RE: 57
Thanks for your help. I have put the COG back, about 5 more degrees throw on the elevator and now it glides to a fair and smooth touchdown perfectly everytime so far. Really pleased. Out of interest I am running this on 6s, and have the eagletree gps in it for these test flights. At full power it flys level at 130km/h or 80mph. Is that ok for this airframe? The site recommends 4-5s lipo, but with my motor (380kv) 4s was like flying a heavy bomber.... its done 10 flights now, just wonder if anyone has had these flutter? Any Goldwing airframe. Phil

RE: G-Booster Won't Start Any Ideas?
Just to let anyone know that this engine was serviced quickly by IQ-hammer and is now as new... I really pleased it went back to Didi in Germany, and they serviced it pronto and sent it back. Starts a dream now. The engine is awesome. I have a feeling it had been left unused for a while and the fuel had blocked up the starter.

RE: Viper Rudder Help
I have bought a second hand large viper that has the 3 hinges, and the servo seems to sway the rudder side to side with flex, Im fairly new to jets and Im not really happy with the way this has been made (not by Skymaster but by the builder who glued the hinges in) Im an inexperienced builder, does anyone know of a good builder familiar with viperjets in the SE of England area who would beef up the rudder, and also get me the 68mm travel talked about on these forums.... and how much of the readies they would want. The airframe has flown 25 times fine as it is... but I doubt its ever knife edged like this. Phil

RE: 57
Is that flys nicely for 3D or flys nicely for more normal flight? I probably had it around there on mine and found the elevator rate too high as the stock set up recommends (about 15-20 deg I think) Thanks for the tip.

RE: 57
I was thinking maybe i just need to fly it in faster, However set up as it is it would make it almost impossible to do a dead stick landing. There would not be enough elevator to keep the nose up... I spent most of the flight seeing how it glides... I think I am answering my own question that it is too nose heavy? However in the flights I flew it inverted and it only needed a small amount of down elevator to keep it level.... confused.

57" Goldwing MX2 COG
Hi there, I have started test flying my new Goldwing MX2 57" electric plane, with 6s lipos... It flys great.... However on the first flights it was tail heavy, and was a pain to fly, so today I have moved the COG to about 5mm forward of what the instructions recommend.... Every landing now it seems to not want to glide in nicely... I get to about 10ft cut the power and it glides to about 2ft and them bam drops onto the gear hard. Like its stalled or hasnt got enough elevator authority to keep the nose up? On the third landing like this it has torn the gear off...Im really bummed gonna have to repair it now. Is it COG? Is it not enough elevator throw or do I really need to fly it with power onto the floor... I have seen videos on youtube of other mx2's gliding in nicely... Are these balsa wood heavy planes (well 2.6kg) too fragile to get away with some heavy landings. I would have said I was slowing it up too much, but like I say from watching others they dont seem to stall like this. I am using a 400g lipo and moving it aroung by about 8mm in the airframe, are these birds really that sensitive to COG? From a height it will glide downwards and slows up alot. With a 16 inch prop I dont really want to be landing with the power on. Any suggestions please! (there was zero wind today)

RE: G-Booster Won't Start Any Ideas?
Hiya Mick, Yes thats what it needs (ecu update)... Didi gave me a guys number called Paul Hinton, but have rang and can't get through.... How much would you want to update it? Didi recons I need about Version 3.7 I think, its written down at home... is a version that it there is no ignition ramps the pump voltage up every 5 seconds I think.. I have run the pump probably constantly for 10-15 minutes pumping fuel... Ill try it some more Didi reconed 30 minutes... However I do not believe this is a new fuel pump, and I also believe it has been sitting for a while unused.... It had fuel tube connected to it to seal it while stored, but could the fuel damage the pump? Should it pump with the same pressure forwards as backwards in these tests? Cheers

RE: G-Booster Won't Start Any Ideas?
4 or 5c is hot! Just as an update I ran through some tests with Didi from Germany this morning, and when we tested the fuel pump we/I think this may be the cause....Didi says it has some old firmware and send it in for update... If anyone is familiar with the Graupner gear (may be the same as jetcat?) There is a pump test under the test menu, and a pump drain as well under there.... Anyway just testing the pump, when its running forward it only pumps a trickle, like fast drops.. (this is under menu six pump test I assume the pump is suppose to run at full power and I should expect a jet of fuel?). Also when the pump is cut free from its mount it bounces around abit. When the pump is run backwards in the fuel drain test mode, it pumps a nice solid jet of fuel, and purrs like a pussy. Now all I need is a spare fuel pump to test it with! I must say its been a great 3 days of fun with this engine standing in the freezing garden, we have developed a great bond!

RE: G-Booster Won't Start Any Ideas?
Thanks for that Steven spoke to him tonight gonna run through a start with him tomorrow over the phone.... Just as an update I plugged a syringe into the engine festo valve, and there seems to be no blockage in the engines fuel lines....syringe can blow air in and out easily. Also I just tried to start it in the dark and there is a nice big orange glow visible from the back deep inside the engine. Looks like the kero ignitor is working... and again small amount of white smoke after the attempted start.... Oh and had another brand new lipo on it tonight 30c 2200mah.....

RE: G-Booster Won't Start Any Ideas?
ORIGINAL: Rider-60 If you have smoke then you have fuel reaching the igniter. I'm pretty sure your trouble is temp / batt related. Keep the engine and battery in a warm room , put it outside just before attempting to start. As for the battery , have a high discharge rate one, 30-40C and if it doesn't work send it in...[:)]
I was under the impression for reading elsewhere these pull about 16amps when trying to start.... but I agree worth a try...

RE: G-Booster Won't Start Any Ideas?
ORIGINAL: Ali You really do need to change that RCU name Phil [:D] I had a similar problem with a booster that ended up being a duff ecu battery. It worked, and charged fine. But when it was put under the load of trying to start ( running the pump, starter motor and lighting the burner) it just didnt have enough delivery to keep the kero burner glowing white hot. So although it was all working, it just wasn't hot enough to get to the next stage of the start sequence. Regards Al
Hey Ali the battery is as sound as my user name. Sound as a pound! Its new maybe done 5 cycles, and have tried a few differnent lipos. Its 2000mah and 25C. Connection is good through some nice connectors.... Hey rider-60 yes there is a little white smoke you sound onto something.....maybe a touch of kero getting through yes trying to start it up outside and yes in the UK its 1c.... could do with it starting just to warm my hands. Fuel lines are disconnected at the engine when testing, so I am pretty happy the solenoids are working the starter one clicks and let a trickle through, (if thats what it is suppose to do) Mick I'm pretty sure it never gets above about 16c but I will keep an eye on it... the kero doesn't light for sure. I'm fairly happy the valves and pump work, I suspect a blockage in the engine or connection... is that heard of? Or low fuel feed/pressure, the 3mm starter tube is 40cm long... am I taking the p1ss? One thing is for sure, if we don't get this sorted out the money will go on women and wine, and we all know a small working jet engine beats that hands down.

RE: G-Booster Won't Start Any Ideas?
ORIGINAL: Dave Wilshere Do you know what Version ECU software? Sounds more like a burner problem, if there was a restriction I think the pump would stall and sing-you say it is starting up? Can you see the pump motor shaft rotate? You need a lot of fuel in the turbine for it to come out the front! You don't hear the fuel catch at all when the start process starts? No bad glow info on the GSU? With version email orbit in Germany (Arno) he maybe can help Support@evojet.com? Dave
Cheers for that the firmware says it is Jetronic Vx G1.98 I will try to email Arno. You think the pump shaft would stall?, or do you mean the fuel can't flow however hard the pump tries/??? It makes the same noise as normal and is is for sure pumping the trickle I describe as I have run it with the fuel line unplugged from the engine. Should the start kero be more than a trickle? However I have a feeling when it is plugged to the engine the fuel is not flowing, even though the pump is trying. After 20 non starts I would think there should be a fair bit of kero in the engine?? Each start I have tried with the fuel line into the bucket, the trickle of fuel lasts for 2 mins? must be 30ml of fuel per start? When you say fuel catch I dont know what you mean? The solenoid fuel valve clicks and the pump starts. No there is no bad glow info on the GSU, just gives time error. To answer post below, yes they are brand new 3 cell lipos, tried a good few different packs, and all the connnectors are gold and nice gauge wire. And yes the solenoid valves are connected right, they open nicely when the pump starts (well the starter one does, never got past that stage) Temperature reading might go upto 16c?? To be clear the engine never lights. A mildy frustrating weekend!

G-Booster Won't Start Any Ideas?
Help me please! I'm pulling my hair out. G-Booster 160 kero start hasn't been started for a while according to previous owner, I've spent nearly 2 days on it cannot get it to fire up, ... Passes all tests in the GSU, solenoids work, pump works, starter motor works and engages, spins turbine up to correct rpm, battery is new. Hand over the back of the engine while it is trying to start is alittle warm, so I think the Kero starter is ok??? Im not sure. Engine wont start up with 'time' error, which in the manual suggests a fuel supply issue. If I unplug the kero starter fuel line, a trickle of fuel will come out into my bucket when it is in the start up procedure... about as fast as drips could go, not a jet of fuel.... I assume this is the correct amount of fuel for the kero start sequence? Its the narrow 3mm start fuel line, and its about 40cm long. Even if I try shorter fuel lines the trickle is about the same. The kero start fuel line is primed with fuel right up to the engine. After about 5 failed starts, I'm worried that there may be un-burnt fuel in the engine, but when I tip it fully forward to vertical no fuel comes out of the engine.... it seems that the fuel isn't getting into the engine.... I have put a syringe on the engine fausto and it doesn't appear to be blocked... but I'm not 100% sure. Anyone have any ideas? It seems not possible to change the fuel pump start voltage on these? I think that is what jetcat suggest.... I'm lost!

RE: Large Viper Jet Thicker Canopy
ORIGINAL: bigplumbs All I tend to hear is badish things about the Viper Jet
One post ago I said I was pleased with the quality of mine. I'm not here to stick up for skymaster, just to ask if anyone has a canopy. And to the previous poster, how does a crack appear on its own? I am inclined to feel a little sorry for Skymaster when people say things like that. From you picture it seems the cockpit details are not glassed into the canopy, a commonly known way of putting the canopy together to improve its strength, and stop any back pressure sucking on the canopy. It might be worth you reading this forum and following the best practices. The new canopy I have from skymaster is just as thin as the original, which had worked for 20 flights.....no problems....like I say if Im gonna fit a new one and can get a thicker one, why not. Roll on the skymaster bashers,......Im outa here.

RE: Large Viper Jet Thicker Canopy
ORIGINAL: bigplumbs Shouldn't Mr Skymaster be making some thicker ones?
The one they supply fitted correctly seems to be fine. The model has 20 flights on it without any problems, just I bought it second hand and the previous owner had blacked the window out. As I am fitting a new one, and if I can get one, there seems to be no downside to fitting a slightly thicker one. I wouldn't want this thread to turn into another skymaster bashing. I am pleased with the quality of the kit, just practising due diligence. Thanks for the link I will PM him.

Large Viper Jet Thicker Canopy
Hi there, I have been trying to get a thicker canopy for my large skymaster Viperjet. I know Shaz and others got some thicker polycarbonate ones made and I have contacted them, but sadly they have sold them all. Has anyone got one that they didn use? Does anyone know where I can get them made in the UK? Skymaster have sent me another thin canopy. If it is sealed to the cockpit trays will the thin one be ok? Im thinking if Im gonna glass the cockpits into the canopy frame I may aswell start with a thicker one if I can get one. Are there people using the thin canopy for over say 50 flights?
