RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
As long as the tanks centerline is lined up with the carb correctly it should be fine. If you can move the engine mount in the slots on the firewall i would just to make it right.

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
As long as you mounted the engine flush to the firewall the thrust line should be ok unless it was repaired and not don't properly. One way you can check to see if you have a thrust issue is first to be sure your balanced lateraly.! (wingtip to wingtip) then when you're flying get it flat and level at 1/2 throttle then punch it quickly. If it climbs you need to shim the motor down slightly and if it goes down then you need to shim it up. If it flew fine where the CG was at then I would leave it alone. I always balance mine slightly nose down with the CG right on 5". If everything is fine it may be a case of a little to much elev. on takeoff which isn't uncommon. Hope this helps.. Shane

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
ORIGINAL: clmooring I am interested in how this plane would fly with a 2 stroke os 75ax. Does anyone know what the relative power out put of the 75ax is compared to a 1.20 4 stroke such as the fa-125?
If you are comparing the. 75AX to the Saito 1.25, power output is higher on the OS on paper but the Saito 1.25 is by far more powerful. I am a huge fan of both motors and fly both on a regular basis. In my Venture 60 the 1.25 had unlimited vertical at just a tad over 1/2 throttle and with the .75 it will climb about 200 feet before it falls. The torque the 1.25 produces is almost unrivaled by other 4 stroke in the same size category. Unless you run one you wont understand. Like I said, I own, fly and love both motors. The. 75 is very docile and good on fuel while the 1.25 is more aggressive and has enough low end grunt to get you out of trouble if you find yourself in a pinch.

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
The .82 would be a great fit. You'll love that corsair it comes with a very nice hatch that gives you easy access to everything. The one I flew had the fuel dot and air for retracts inside the hatch so you can keep the outside clean and not have to drill or cut it up.

I don't think there is alot of difference between the. 91 & 1.00. it may be slightly heavier. I wouldn't think there would be a problem with it if it fits.

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
That's too bad, sorry to here it. Mine is on extended leave as the horizontal fins are broke at the fuselage. Thinking of getting a new fuse and stabs but am also considering the TF corsair as well and it comes with flaps. That or the 50 size corsair from H9. Flew one a couple weeks ago with a Saito .91 and it flies awesome. The detail and changes are worth noting. Shane

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
You are definitely right as far as this flies more like the real thing. I maddened one for a fella last fall and it would no doubt flip over if given half a chance. I flew it like I stole it, in doing so I took away the chance of being to cautious and getting into trouble. During landing I never went below 1/4 throttle with minimal flaps maybe 10% with no head wind. This was using a Saito 1.25 so 1/4 throttle was more than enough actually a little hotter approach than necessary. One thing I found is that I like to loosen up with my favorite plane a bit before I maiden as it seems to calm the nerves alot. Then the first flight is 5 min. then land a check everything over real good. Good luck on your maiden..

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
I have quite a few Saito's including 2-1.25's. In my experience with them they will all puke oil out of the carb if not tuned properly, especially when they are inverted slightly. To see that much oil coming from the carb makes me think it was still a little rich. When I get mine tuned properly, usually after break in is complete, they drip very little. I watched your video and it did seem quite rich still in the video. Now I have used a filter setup like you would find on an off-road nitro vehicle and adapted it to fit over the venture. This works quite well particularly during break in as it will catch almost all the oil. You just have to get in there and clean it after each outing or it will start to restrict airflow. None the less I hate to see these birds going down at such a high mortality rate. No matter how many of these things they sell, they would sell 100's more if they would address a little quality control. Shane

RE: Senior telemaster engine?
I have an ARF and I had to add 11oz to the nose with an EVO.46 in it to get it to balance. It was used but there wasn't anything done to the original airframe. Weird how they can go from one extreme to the other on the CG. I ave a few RCGF gassers, all 20cc and I love them. Been looking at the 15cc but my only concern is the vibration. Seems the smaller they make them the more they vibrate. R/C Addiction, that 15 looks good in their, let us know how it does and be safe until your return state side. Shane

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
I have quite the dilemma, the Corsair is my wifes plane as she loves the Corsair and she wouldn't let me sell it after I won it. Turned out to be my favorite to fly due to performance and nothing beats that signature outline in the sky. But I want to replace my P-51 I crashed about 4 yrs ago. I already sleep downstairs most nights so I guess it won't be to painful, right.. lol Shane

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
ORIGINAL: twinbrother Here's a huge miss for the Hangar 9 60 Size Corsair. There isn't enough glue holding the plane together. The firewall came off on a tip over. The wings ripped apart during flight. All this happened with less than 20 flights on the plane. I lost over $500, including my lipos. The Horizon Hobby service rep told me all the threads about wing failures and firewalls coming off is rubbish. Yeah, us hard working customers who drop $260 on their plane is just writing rubbish about a plane that doesn't use enough glue to hold it together. That's a great way of keeping customers Horizon Hobby. And the rep said he couldn't do much for me. There went $500 in one month of flying on the weekends. Let's see, that's about $25 a flight. Good investment? After close inspection of the wings after the crash, I saw that the balsa and plywood literally fell off the sheeting of the wing. Yup, they are just falling off, not held together at all. Since you can't see what's under all the wing sheeting, the only way is to remove it yourself or crash like I did. How can a company like Hangar 9 be skimping on the glue? And how can they not do anything about it for 7 years? I've been reading posts about this topic dating back to 2004. For those of you lucky enough to not experience this, you guys must have the ones that just has enough glue to hold the plane together. Us other folk here aren't fortunate enough to win at Russian Roulette. The Hangar 9 60 Size Corsair flew great and looked great. But not having enough glue to hold the plane together is absolutely ridiculous. And to have the rep tell me that everyone who's been posting the wing failure and firewall failures is writing rubbish is telling me they don't care what we have to say. We want a good solid plane and they refuse or can't seem to deliver on that. I have 3 Top Flite 60 size planes and they're solid as a rock. No skimping on glue there. What a disappointment in Hangar 9.
I agree with you 100%.. I also got one that had very little, if any, glue around the firewall or LG area. I had done enough research after I won this at a local warbird event that i knew I had better do some re-enforcing in these areas. Especially after seeing a guy running in a new motor at the field and at 1/2 throttle the firewall came apart and destroyed the left wing as well. Unfortunately you do have to do a lot of re-enforcing in these areas. I've had mine 3 yrs now and over 200 flights. (3 sets of gear now counting the stock ones) My son did break one the incredibly flimsy vert stabs though playing with it. May end up junking it now as it broke right along the fuse and it will be a bugger to dremel the whole thing out and replace it. I think I am going to get a top flight model and just transfer everything over to it. Does the top flight ARF come with flaps? Sorry to hear of yet another loss due to poor quality control. Shane

RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
I never really had tipping issues before I added the CJ's. I had Lado electrics in it prior to those. I usually set my CG so that my planes are slightly nose down when balancing. I have seen this issue alot on the P-51's as well as the Corsairs. Shane

RE: Tiger 60 Build Thread
Have you run the DLE20 yet. I had a Saito 1.25 and the vibrations were quite a bit for the airframe and the DLE20 will probably be no exception. It seems the small the cc on gas the worse the vibrations get. I will be curious to see it as I have a few birds that the 20cc will fit nicely. [;)] Shane

( This might be of interest to some of you older pilots ) P51 cockpit - don't know if you can get this neat This is pretty slick – give it time to load all the way – may not be suitable for those with a dial-up connection – but should be most enjoyable to observe the 360 degree scan of this P-51 cockpit – takes awhile for the color to load. As you scan around you can see everything - even the missing bolt on the floor…. zoom in......zoom out..... move any direction with the mouse. RE: Hits and Misses of H-9 Corsair
What I did on my retracts was replace them with CJ's which are a top mount instead of bottom mount. When I installed the new mounting blocks I i positioned them so they were far enough forward yet deep enough they didn't stick out. It was much easier in the long run and less of a hassle. Shane

I had my first P-51 brake the fuse in half, looked exactly like yours. Sorry to see that. It took a buddy of mine about 3 days of piecing it back together and it flew as good as knew. Mine was a battery issue on an RTF so they sent me a new plane. I was flying the old one by the time it arrived. It's not a bad fix. Shane

RE: NEW H9 P51 Mustang 60 ARF
One thing I learned with H9 birds is that if you don't, at the least, go over every joint you can see with thin CA and thick where needed to fill gaps. You are headed for disaster. I've read thread after thread and I don't think I've read one that hasn't had issues such as this. This plane is heavy, it was designed to be flown in a scale manner. Should it be classed as a 60 size warbird, not in my opinion. 7-9lbs is the usual range for a 60 size bird. You start tipping the scale 10,11,12lbs you are entering the 90-120 size range. Which in turn requires more power, 30-45cc range. As far as the quality, everyone complained that it was to heavy, so what happened? They cutout the fuse in places for weight reduction. Only other way to achieve this is lighter (weaker) balsa. My advise has always been on all H9 birds, reinforce reinforce reinforce before you start to build. 30 min epoxy, thin and thick CA, brushes, even fiber clothe should be your first part of the build on these before you even open the manual. Spending an evening going over everything could save you an evening trying to salvage parts do to a failure of some sort. just my 2cents... Shane

Thats good to know. I guess as long as the mounting surface is flat they may not have any issues. I've been contemplating robo struts to help cushion the landings. RE: new cmp spitfire - man cmp is getting good
I have a set in a Beechcraft Bonanza and I think 6-7lbs. is about the limit for those retracts. As long as you can avoid to many rough landings they might be ok. The drivetrain on them is good it's the plastic housing I worry about. Shane

Power15 cutting out
Hey guys I got a question for you. I put flights 2 and 3 on my Bonanza 15e yesterday and during the third I noticed that the motor was cutting out after only a few minutes flying. I normally fly at 3/4 throttle with a few high speed passes. Anyway I had an on board video camera on it so I caught the action. I landed after both times it cut out and neither the battery or esc were hot. Actually barely even warm. I'm using the recommended setup with the only exception being the battery. It's a Desire power 3S1P 3300mAh 25C. Also using a APC 11X8e prop. My Watt meter should be here today hopefully. It does it at about the 11 and 43 sec. mark. total flight was about 5 minutes. Any ideas?? [link]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCxZMOqLDVw[/link] Thanks Shane
