RE: The best maiden I've ever had!!!!
Was thinking about you last night watching a show called Ariel Assassins on National Geographic, All about Harris awks in Arizona. Was wondering if you were still training or not. Good Job! Here in Ohio you have to start out with a Red Tail Hawk or a Kestral, till you get your Masters License, then you can move on to other types of birds. Jeff

RE: PITTS SC1
I'd go with the nedative 1.5 degree on the top wing. Most Bipes use some negative on the upper wing as it allows the lower wing to stall first, while the upper keeps flying. Jeff

Try ironing them. Take the wifes iron and ironing board iron from from the backside. Any creases shoot a little steam to them. Jeff

RE: Calculating Air Cylinder length and placement
Dave, I'm building an old Graupner Hot Spot. I've got the BVM Offset hinges for the nose gear door. And I'm going to use 3/4" Alum Piano hinge for the inner main doors. I'm also going to lay a layer of carbon fiber on the insides to stiffen them up. I wasn't aware that you had some wiggle room in the setup, thought it had to be an exact match on the stroke. But this makes more sense. I'll treat it like a goverment job, close enough :) Jeff

Calculating Air Cylinder length and placement
I've never done gear doors before using air cylinders. How do you calculate the length of the cylinder needed, and how do you find the ideal mounting location? I'm going to be doing a full length nose gear door, and the 2 inner doors on the mains. Also whats a good sequnecer for the doors? Jeff

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit
Bruce, I didn't change a thing in the dihedral department. After alot of head scratching, I ended up using the kits dihedral brace to make a jig to hold the wing tubes. I set the jig on the building table and locked it in place, put the tube in it, then slid it up next to the rib and marked the rib. Remove that rib, then slid it up to the next rib, and so on. I then took the marked rib and cut the holes out in both ribs. It went fairly quickly, the whole build took just over a month, with that being about 2 1/2 weeks of waiting for parts from an unnamed retract company. Long story there but I'm sure you get the drift ;) Jeff I'll try posting some more pictures later, RCU isn't working again.

RE: Reaction 54 Jet Kit
Bob, The wing tube is 1.25" Aluminum, anodized black, the rear wing tube is 3/4" Alum. I built them as close to the main spars as I could to utilize some of the spar strengh, and disperse the load on landing. The rear tube phenolic is actually hysoled to the web shears on the rear spar. The front tube is 1/4" forward of the main spar. Plus all the ribs have 1/8" Lite ply doublers at the tube locations. The 4 ribs at the joints have 1/8" Hard ply doublers. The main tube is 48", and the smaller tube is 32". Does that change your calculations any? I built it to withstand what I thought would be reasonable landing loads, thinking this is where most of the forces would be generated for bending. Jeff

OK Here is something new for you 54 devotees :) Built a 54 for a friend in Florida, but he doesn't like fighting with large wings, who does. So after calling Bruce for some support (Thanks Bruce!) This is what I ended up with. The pictures should explain it all.
