I would be interested to see what one of those Daves motors would spin a 18X8W or 19X8w if Ralph got ahold of it to do a propdriver/ignition conversion.

If Zenoah made a 30cc with a truely r/c purpose built lightweight case maybe they could stay competitive. Oh wait, Horizon is the importer and has to get thier bloated cut. There are many chinese 27 and 29cc upgrades for the Zenoah type engines including stuffer cranks. The g-38 with it's ri/re is a good starting point but it weighs way too much.

I have a friend with the cream and red full wing and a Saito 170 three cylinder and Kelo exhaust. The plane stays clean, sounds and flys scale at less than half throttle with the chosen prop. I don't think they make the cream model anymore. Too bad, it's a beauty.

tsp, With the Syssa you'll need at least a pound of nose weight to get the Monocoup to balance unless you move all radio gear to the tail.[:D]
ORIGINAL: Tired Old Man Are you folks so naive to think the foreign engine manufacturers really care about you? Perhaps some of you (only a few) understand that all they consider is the bottom lines, and making a new part to fix an old problem effects that bottom line, negatively.
Since most engine manufacturers are foreign including Zenoah, I guess we're all screwed. DLE is selling through Tower. I don't think they want to ruin their rep with a bad product. Once this gets straightend out the 30 will be a big seller for them (Tower). With the exposure Tower can bring them, it will be worth it for to DLE to straighten this out.

If a factory plastic part like tkg made fixes the problem, I would be happy to purchase this engine with the part installed. I can see this part incorporating a heat spacer flange. Reading the manufactures statement; this not being a problem unless the engine idles for over 30 seconds and does not effect flight is a huge cop out! I don't do a elevator landings. When I land, I fly a down wind leg, cross wind and final, land and taxi back. If an engine will not allow this type of performance, I will not buy it.

RE: RC Guys Super Decathlon coming
Since the Syssa is not out in numbers there are no way to prove or disprove it's performance. It was originally touted as having the power of a OS 160 FX. This is simply not true. Then, in the Syssa 180 owners manual it's claimed to spin a 18X6 @ 8750rpm. Now, the only independent rpm post states 8200 rpm on a 18X6, 200 rpm more than my Enya 155R four stroke.[8|]

As long as the carb is 1" away from the firewall it will get plenty of air regardless of baffling.

Hi Tom, I baffle my engines in most installs so all the air goes thru the fins, just like full scale. This way the outlet can be smaller and still provide proper cooling. Two to three times outlet to inlet.
ORIGINAL: craigteffe You may want to reconsider the exaust restriction, These things are designed for a certain amount of back preasure and if you exceed that your engine will be toast in very short order.
The original muffler, I mean exhaust diverter, looks to have no back pressure. A proper tuned pipe would have a small stinger.

I don't fly at the Borderline club very often. Mostly at the Propbuster's Salem, CT field. I do have a Soucy but haven't flown it since 2005. I run the ST 4500 Bisson Pitts with one exhaust blanked off and a Hobbico extension on the other with the 160fx. Jtec dual snuffler is most powerful and extremely quiet.
ORIGINAL: BTerry
ORIGINAL: tsyssa Did you adjust the needle settings? When it was run here it was very humid and 50 degrees. What is your altitude? Just ran the Mejzlik 18x6 on a new engine with 17 minutes running time....turned 9090 rpm for peoples reference on props. Its about 65 out today...180 Ft ASL.
Again for reference: a few years ago I had an OS 1.60 in a plane, and a flying buddy had a Saito 1.80. He bought a Mejz 18x6. His Saito turned it (from memory, so don't quote me) ~8600 and my OS turned it ~8800 - 8850 on a Bisson muffler, and either Cool power or S&W 15% fuel. In New Hampshire, maybe 200 ft elevation, mid-80's and HUMID. Basically this new engine has the potential to be MORE powerful than my OS 1.60, weighs ~8-10 oz LESS (my OS was as I recall 49 oz with muffler/pump/mount, the Syssa engine is 38 oz rtf), and requires HALF the fuel load! Sounds like a great replacement for the OS.
Bterry, There was something wrong with your OS!. Both of mine and a fellow club members spun a APC 18X6 over 9200 on 5% nitro with stock exhaust. The Mejzlik would spin 10000 rpm on 15%! The OS does make 3.7hp and the Syssa makes 3.0hp after 2 gallons which must be over 6 hours of run time.

RE: NEW SYSSA 30CC GASSER MADE IN THE USA
Todd, As you know, the Mejzlik 18X6 is much less load compared to a Vess or APC 18X6. I checked other forums and found the Vess 18X6 has the same static rpm as the APC 18X6W, +/- 50 rpm. Why not run the engine on the Vess as in your manual and see if you are getting close to the 8750 rpm.
