RE: Old School Tornado Xp Parts
Looking at the clutches... I see they have a plastic one now? What are the benefits/drawbacks of a plastic clutch over the aluminum one? Less wear on the clutch bell or something? Any difference in performance?

RE: Old School Tornado Xp Parts
Hey thanks for the help guys! I got crafty tonight after work and switched the connectors and plugged the batteries directly into the receiver. [:D] I'll check out the shack tomorrow and if there's nothing there I'll just go ahead and order that part. Man I forgot how much fun/pain in the ass these things are to tune! Right now it just wants to take off on me when I start it. I tried adjusting the idler screw but anything that even resembles a regular idle just cuts it off. I have an updraded Futaba radio that has some trim controls that allow me to fine tune the throttle. Ended up having to use that to get things manageable. Still not able to idle very well but that's ok. And yeah I checked my clutch spring and it is fine. I remember that was one of the first things I switched out when I got this thing. Although you think that over time the spring itself might have weakened? Maybe I need a stronger one to keep the two clutch plates together? Hmm... Anyway, It was getting late and I'm sure the neighbors were tired of hearing my buggy revving around at full bore [8D] Tomorrows another day!

Old School Tornado Xp Parts
Hey guys, long time no post. Well about 2 or 3 years ago I put my Tornado away due to other obligations. This weekend I decided to take it out of hibernation and see if the old thing still ran. I ran over to the hobby shop got some nitro fuel, a glow plug, and some fresh batteries for the radio. After oiling the motor a bit and making sure things were spinning smoothly it fired right back up! I was honestly pretty surprised. Just goes to show you how important throwing some after run oil in the motor is. Now my only problem is that the on/off switch on my battery box seems to be corroded and cuts in and out meaning I lose my radio. Needless to say I didn't really get a chance to drive it at all. I was thinking about just bypassing the switch but I wanted to see if there was any other way to get a new one before splicing the wires. I can't seem to find the switch itself on the redcat racing site and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting my buggy up and running at full speed again. It's been a long time since I've gotten a good whiff of used nitro fuel. Feels good man. Also I haven't had a good look at Redcats lineup since I stopped driving my buggy back in 2007. I'm really impressed and happy to see that the company is still going strong. Way to go guys.

RE: pullstart upgrade for volcano stx
So far so good on the HPI gears. The teeth just keep thier shape a lot better than the stock bell so there's less chance of them shaving down the plastic gears. And if you end up not liking the two speed you could always just purchase a one speed transmission later on and install that. That way you get the bigger engine in the xp.

If you still wanna go the pullstart route hpi makes a pullstart that is a direct swap with the stock one. Check out this thread for the part number and stuff http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4068240/tm.htm

RE: My new Torpeda Pro!
Hmm the steering servo that originally came with it may be beefier than the s3003. I'm not sure though. You may wanna ask the guys on the 1/8th buggy thread. For the throttle servo go ahead and use the futaba. It's going to be stronger.

RE: Michgan Or Ohio State?
Haha I hear ya man. It's gonna be an awesome game! Oh and comparing the buckeyes to a subpar Usc kinda hurt my feelings... There's a difference btwn scraping a win together every week(usc) and then demolishing your opponents(osu). The one cool thing about that beaver win was all the great jokes that came out of it. The Beaver Defense is Impenetrable. Even by Trojans. haha.... woo I'm happy it's football season.

If you want the bigger engine go with the himoto. They're exactly the same cars. You could buy parts from either company and they'd work.

RE: another sv Q
Yeah hobby town should carry all the parts. If not they'll gladly order them for you (that way you don't have to pay shipping). Just be sure to have the hpi part numbers on hand so you get the right parts. You don't have to mod anything at all. You just remove your stock clutch bell, pop the bearings out and save all the washers. Then just screw the two gears onto the hpi bell and replace the bearings and washers. Tighten the end screw and you're good to go.

RE: 2 speed drive clutch
that looks really close to the stock setup. Can someone measure the diameter of the shaft that it slides onto? It looks like that hole is too big. It says the inner diameter is 8.3mm. Just off the top of my head i don't think it'll fit.

RE: 1/10 Buggy Compatible Parts
The 2 speed transmission you can pick up from either: www.topspeedtoys.com or www.clermontmotorsports.com Also directly from the redcatracing website. The hpi clutchbell you can purchase from tower hobbies. If you go back to page 4 of this thread I have those links posted there. You can also find those hpi parts at your local hobby shop. Hope that helps.

RE: another sv Q
Yup that's a two speed. 1st gear is gold and 2nd gear is purple. The clutch bell is the black part that it all screws on to. I got everything for a little more than 15 bucks at my lhs. Yeah that's more than a stock redcat clutchbell but you won't have to be buying a new one every few tanks. Also you'll save yourself from stripping gears constantly. Also if one of the parts happens to go bad it's really easy to replace a gear rather than having to buy a whole new unit.

Did you replace both the hand held transmitter and the reciever in the car? It sounds like you only replaced the transmitter and the reciever is having trouble.
