RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
72 Nice job with the pipe, looks really clean. If you built your next Ultimate as light as possible and put that Saito 125 on it - you wouldn't be disappointed

RE: Goldberg Ultimate Biplane Engine
That's a nice looking plane, good job. You will be well rewarded for the time and effort you put into building this plane. In my opinion it's the best flying plane in its class. It will perform any maneuver you can think of and do it well. I would have tried to talk into into using a Saito 125, but, there is nothing wrong with a 2 stroke. You might try to see if you can transport it assembled. If it's possible, you will enjoy it even more.

RE: Lighter flies better?
In my opinion , you cannot separate the two factors and the term " flying better" is just to vague. If you lighten the plane, you increase its performance envelope. It will stall at slower speeds and the acceleration and the rate of climb will increase. In the example of lightening the plane these cannot be mutually exclusive factors. All are usually considered as desirable attributes in an aircraft and would contribute to the plane “flying better But to follow your idea in attempting to separate the two I would make these suggestions. To test to see if the plane flies better because the wing loading is lighter. Simply get the plane in the air and then cut the engine off and see how it flies , then add weight to the plane and repeat. This way the power cannot be a factor. In order to test the power to weight question the plane would have to be flown perfectly vertical so that the wing loading would not be factored in. Then add weight and repeat. I think that we all know what the results would be in either case. I believe that the answer to your hypothesis can only be yes to both.

The video is fine, nice landing. Where is your C.G.? Mine is ready to fly and I've read that the recommended 6.5" sets the plane up a little tailheavy. Thanks

RE: da-50 will not richen up help please!
It bothered me to no end that I couldn't richen the top end as much as I would have liked. I called DA and questioned them about it and the guy I talked to reassured me that I did not need to worry about it. So now I just run it and it has worked perfectly. I'm not contending that it's as good as it could be, but it has not been a problem either.

RE: da-50 will not richen up help please!
I had the same concerns about my DA50. I don't know if this is your first gas engine or not, but keep in mind that the top end on a DA50 will not richen up and reduce the RPMs like a glow engine, but that does not necessarily indicate that it is running lean. Running the smaller prop is good idea. Most of the tuning will be with the slow speed needle for a good transition and mid range

RE: Aviation Models/TOC 30% Extra 260 BUILD THREAD
I thought I remember someone else mention that they felt the recommended CG was a bit rearward in his flight report and the maiden was rather unnerving for him. Progress has been slow on mine but I have really been impressed with the quality and the construction of the plane. It does not sound like the weight of the plane presented any problems for you, I am still going to try to get mine a pound or so lighter if possible. There are few things that will put a bigger smile on your face that a successful maiden flight. Good job!

RE: Aviation Models/TOC 30% Extra 260 BUILD THREAD
It's obvious that the manufactors are using the same people to calulate the wing area that they use to calculate the weight of their planes. In some cases too much importance is place on the numbers by themselves, but it would be nice to get accurate information from the people that make them.

RE: Aviation Models/TOC 30% Extra 260 BUILD THREAD
The 260 has 1290 sq in of wing area and I believe that the Yaks is closer to 1400 sq in. The 260 just might be the best airframe ever designed and I know you will love the way it maneuvers and tracks through the sky , but , at that weight the slow/stall speed is going to suffer though it may not really be an issue with this plane. Good luck

RE: Aviation Models/TOC 30% Extra 260 BUILD THREAD
Aerobob It's a great looking plane but my concern has always been the weight vs the wing area on this ARF. I think that it will fly very well at 17.4 pounds but I can only imagine how it would fly if it were couple pounds lighter. I should be receiving mine next week and I am looking forward to the flight reports. It would be great if you could give us a comparision with the Yak concerning the flight characteristics of both.

RE: Servo Torque Requirements for 30%????
His plane is set up for two rudder servos and he was questioning the need to purchase an additional servo. A single servo push pull would work , but I think that a pull pull system is better.

RE: Servo Torque Requirements for 30%????
I would recommend the pull pull set up. It is rare for a plane to be nose heavy if you use an engine in the proper size range, and it is much easier to resolve if it is The push pull might be required if your servos lacked torque and that will not be a issue with the 5955's. You don't need a $ 95 tail weight and it is always better to keep the servos in the fuselage if possible.

RE: Servo Torque Requirements for 30%????
If you can afford the 55's, it is the way to go. I had to make the same choice a while back and went with the 5955's and though it seemed like an overkill at the time, I've never regretted it. They are great servos that will hold up for the long term and will remain virtually slop free , and you will never have to upgrade again.

His Funtana 90 video is still the best 3D I've seen to date and I 've seen them all. He did a rolling harrier down the runway that was so low he was actually scraping the rudder on the ground. Then he did a reverse tork roll about 6" off the deck and his landing was something that has to be seen to be believed. And this is with a 90 size airplane that is not that easy to 3D compared to the larger planes , I know because I had one

RE: DA 150 on 33% EDGE ?
dntmn I am planning on getiing an Edge and I am trying to talk myself out of the notion that I want to put a BME 115 in it. I know that an 80 does a fine job , I've seen the videos ,but I could always use the BME in a larger plane down the road. I thinking of using a 3 bladed prop to help manage the power and to keep the noise down . I'll have to use cannisters and it would be helpful to see an installation. If you were to buy an engine to put in the Edge would you use the 110 again or the 80 based on performance only.
