RE: STUPIDLY THIN / STUPIDLY FAST...?
I'm not sure what the upper limit is for these flat airfoils, hopefully this attempt at a .10 sized racer isn't taking it too far....but that's the theme of this thread.
You never know how far you can go until you've gone too far, right? [:D]

RE: .074 MARAUDER !!!
Hey CP - ya got any pics of your "stooge"? Being a C/L noob, I can honestly say I haven't a clue as to what one looks like let alone how to use one. I bet I'd have better success with a more controlled launch method. Don't get me wrong, I love my wife dearly, but she can't launch a plane fer crap! [:D] Most of our launches ended up looking like this:

RE: .074 MARAUDER !!!
Right on brutha!!! I bet one of the tiny "keychain" or "gumstick" video cameras attached above (or below) the leadouts on the wingtip (pointing back to the center of the circle) would provide an interesting perspective of the pilot. [;)]

RE: Lazy Bee's??
Thanks CP! I gotta admit, the laminating / bending of the wood had me pretty worried, but it turned out to be no big deal. (Andy Clancy did a pretty good write up on it in his Lazy Bee instructions.) Basically, balsa strips 1/16" x 1/8" are soaked in hot water, coated with wood glue, laid together, stretched around a form, then pinned/taped, or rubber banded in place until the glue dries. I cut my strips a little wide and when they were planed and sanded to final thickness you can't even tell the lams were made from multiple pieces! Once the balsa had soaked long enough (about 10 minutes), hardly any force is required to bend the strips so the forms can even be made out of cardboard (wrapped in plastic wrap of course). I used coroplast for my forms in case I wanted to build another Bee or two later.
ORIGINAL: combatpigg Nice work PBJ..! How did you bend the wood...?
RE: Lazy Bee's??
Hmmm, funny this thread chose now to pop back up - I'm partly through the scratch build of my Bee. I've gotten all of the parts cut and the tail feathers done. I plan to build exactly to the plan and use a OS .10 FP for power, HS-81s on the rudder / elevator and an HS-55 on the throttle. I'm taking my time with this one so it looks it's best for the transparent Coverite Microlight that I plan to use. FWIW, there's a massive thread on the "other" RC forum that includes .PDF plans for many of the Bee variants...

Hey Andrew! I've been, ummm, well, uhhhh, on a bit of a RC hiatus - I hate to admit it, but I've only been out flying like 3-4 times this year thanks to a renewed interest in a few other hobbies. No worries, I tend to jump around like that... [:)]

RE: Avionnette HM-8 build thread.
Wow, this is weird - a coworker and I was just talking about this project on Friday - just moments before this thread reemerged! Sadly, the model was never finished. I got as far as "making the kit" and gluing up the fuse sides, but there were a couple of concerns and the project lost momentum, and then was ultimately mothballed. They say in life there are no coincidences, so I guess I better dig out the bits and get back at it!

RE: best battery for glow plug?
Hey Kevin - the best battery I've used for starting Coxes is two Alkaline "D" cells wired in parallel - that's "+ to +" and "- to -" - then I attach the glow plug clip to that. Try to avoid battery holders, in this application they're a source of frustration with their flaky connections. I solder directly to the cells with a 100 watt soldering gun. A higher wattage gun (or iron) gets the area hot enough to solder quickly without unnecessary heat soaking of the area. Use electrical (or duct) tape to bundle the cells together and strain-relief the wires. I've used a battery like this for a whole season and have often used it to start larger engines when the ole ni-starter was exhausted. Hope this helps! -Joe

RE: PROP-JET BINGE
That sucks CP - it's not often that you have a design that is so troublesome. (Still looks pretty damn cool though.) Maybe we could stuff an "E" or "F" size composite rocket motor in the tail?

Yea, the Ladyhawk is also 24" span, but the scary part of the flight is over in about 5 seconds. (You hardly have time to stress over it.) BTW, youtube has a bunch of Altered videos - including The Winged Express. [8D] So, what's next up dude? Are ya hacking away at the Husky yet?

RE: 1/2A Mini-mag?
My first thought when I saw the latest photos was "What's wrong with this picture?" Then I realized that all of the radio gear was in the wing and the fuselage (or power pod) was the lone item that screwed onto the airframe. Neat. Good to hear that you were able to salvage the MiniMag Mk 1 wing and make something decent out of it. However, I'm with hllywdb on the color choice though. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
