What a great improvement from the stock 26. Biggest difference is the torque - does not drop off in the turns. It would be neat if we could develop a class for Thunderboat with this engine. It's a staight drop in for the Zen 26

RE: Hydro airfoil ????z
Great idea on using the tube spacers. I made up new mounts, but this is a much easier approach. Dick T.
ORIGINAL: d-lo well, i got the motor mounted, and all set up for permanent placement....... once i got to looking at the mounts, i thought, "why not mount it a half inch forward?" this can be done very simply with a spacer between the mounts themselves, and the motor for the rear ones, and between the mount and the motor plate for the forward one. i made the 1/2" spacers out of 5/16"s stainless tubing, and longer 5mm allen bolts. it puts the motor as far forward as i can safely get it, with still having access to the motor mount nuts, and keeping the carb off the 'cheek' of the canopy. i have maybe .200's clearance all said and done with the canopy, but the needles just kiss it. oh, and now the scoop is opened up as well............ i also whipped up a 'bullet' for the new strut tube to strut section, and replaced all the motor hardware with stainless cap screws...... more to come!!!! davey

ORIGINAL: Jamming Just got my miss Llumar apart and starting mods, I will post some pics when i get a chance. Finished my turn fin last night, made it from the sheet someone posted here from speedmaster. Going clutchless and water pump-less. Bought a speedmaster dual pick-up rudder and a warehouse hobbies tuned pipe. Tony is building some new heat treated pipes for his new hydro, So i bought the system, Looks to be very high quality indeed. Then later after i get it set-up right i will buy tonys mod-5 kit and a walbro 257. Should see high 50's. Great looking boat and the quality is not as bad as exspected from reading forums. Has anyone needed to glass the engine rails for extra support ?
Has anyone needed to glass the engine rails for extra support ? Highly recommend some glass cloth at top and bottom engine rails to hull joints. Vibration will eventionally cause the origional bond to fail. Dick T.

RE: Miss Llumar 1/8th again !
ORIGINAL: lomcevac540T Looks good Proboat, I was having trouble with my turnfin. I made one and it isn't strong enough. The fin would flex on me and make the boat act stupid in a turn. It was made from 1/16" thick T6-6061 aluminum. First off, I had a 10-32 nylon bolt as my shear bolt for my break away design and it broke the head off the bolt just from the force of trying to turn

RE: LLumar 1/8th topic
Wrap to center header needs a "0" band pipe. Talk to Al at Hanson and he can give you guidance on exhaust and what to expect from his engine. Performance is reduced with wrap to center pipe because you are limited as to how short you can cut it.
ORIGINAL: RKS1949 Well it's X-Mas morning, and I'm down stairs working on the boat. I ordered a 1/4 scale servo, but it's too big. So it will get sent back to Tower Hobbies.[:@] I ended up using the supplied servo's but rearanged them so the throttle servo is on the end,and both steering servo's are side by side. I also figured out how to make my coil bracket,so the coil would be low and to the inside.[;)]. I don't care much about raising the weight up in the boat. I'd like to keep as much as low as possible. Better get upstairs as the action is starting![:D] Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year all! Ron
One JR Z4800T servo will do the job very well and drop right in. Available at Horizon.

RE: LLumar 1/8th topic
ORIGINAL: Jamming Just purchased a LLumar 1/8th for a great price, Less than half new ! Granted i have read all i can find about this boat. Some positive some negative. I would like to hear some opinions and comments, on what Not to do and what to do. To make this boat Better than stock. The boat was used only one time and is about two years old. Is it possible to race such a boat, Or is it best left as a sport boat. My starting fleet consists of WHH Team PRO MOD 5, and this LLumar. New to boating, but really like the looks of this Hydro. Any comments ?
The boat really isn't designed for racing, but can be a lot of weekend fun. With the stock motor, hull modifications and money for hardware upgrades, the boat has the potential to run 50+ mph and handle well. Stock it should run 35 to 40 mph. Read this link for more info and discussion. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6378471/anchors_6378471/mpage_1/key_hydro%252Cairfoil/anchor/tm.htm#6378471 Dick T

RE: Hydro airfoil ????z
ORIGINAL: painman Thanks Bob, have the Elms boat running good at WOT, using the 6717 prop. Still playing with the trun fin, can't belive how much the fin will effect the way the boat will handle, seems like a 1/16 of an inch makes a lot of difference. It will tighten or loosen the boat and will have the boat pull either direction with little movement of the fin. I am running the insane turn fin, it is a good fin and holds the boat so it will turn on a dime. Thinking of trying my 7018 R&R prop to see if will perform better, will update and let everyone know how it works. I also changed the lid on the radio box, went to a thicker piece of lexan and a thin cork gasket. Seems like I couldn't keep the water out of the radio box with the flimsey lid. Even put the weather seal and tape still had problems. I will let you know if the new lid works, has anyone had problems with the stock lid? Good to see everyone back, still hunting here, not a bad year so far; Thanks Randy
I use an aluminum clamp ring over the lexan for an even seal. Never had a drop of water in the radio box even - with a driver error flip! Dick T
