RE: Multiplex Twin Star II + T2M Funair questions ...
I got a second question about the Twin Star II aswell: Hobby-Lobby suggests to use a Jeti 30 amp brushed speed controller, but the manual says that you need 30 amps MINIMUM, should I upgrade the speed controller to a Jeti 45 amp brushed one ? Or will the 30 amp one be fine ?

RE: Using my 12V Pb pack for a mini frige ... ^^
haha, all very nice and very helpfull posts [:D] thx So in conclusion, as stated by mrasmm, I would be able to run my frige for 8-36 hours with a 12v 44Ah batterie, depending on the conditions (e.g.: cool it at home first, add some frozen cooling-blocks, open it up alot, etc.) However, I do still have a small remark to jooNorway's post. You're saying that the 360A (ENG) refers to the maximum discharge amount and that it would not be wise to drain the batterie at 2-4A .... However, everyone at my flying club uses old car batteries to power their field charger and if I'm correct most of em charge their batteries at arround 3-6 amps, so are you saying that alle those lead-acid batteries of the people at my club will be ruined if they don't discharge em harder ? Using my 12V Pb pack for a mini frige ... ^^
I have here a 12volt car batterie, which I use as a field batterie with the following specs. (as I read em of of the batterie itself): 44Ah / 360A (ENG) I know this is offtopic and has little to nothing to do with RC-stuff, but would I be able to power my mini frige with it ? and for how long ? It has the following specs: it uses 12volt and 4A the problem is that I don't know what they mean with the '4A' I know that discharging a batterie that has for example 3600mah (= 3.6Ah) at 1.8Ah would make it last for 2 hours. But it just seems rediculous that my small frige, which only works at 12volt would use 4Ah ... I'm confused. What is the difference between Ah and A ?
ORIGINAL: fliprob17 To be safe and extend your battery life, stick to something around a 75% of the 1C rate, so 2.1 amps x 0.75 = 1.58 amps.
Does this also apply to NiCd and NiMH batteries or only to LiPo's ?

RE: Li-Po for Dummies info
ORIGINAL: jdetray A lipo is fully charged when each cell reaches 4.2V. A proper lipo charger will stop charging when the pack is fully charged, so you do not have to time it. If you charge at the 1C rate, charging any size lipo pack will take a bit more than 1 hour. In theory, charging a fully depleted pack at 1C would take exactly 1 hour. But since charging is never 100% efficient, it will take somewhat more than an hour. If you charge at 0.5C, it will take a little more than 2 hours. At 0.25C, it will take a little more than 4 hours, etc. - Jeff
Not to make a new topic about it, but I've recently bought the Multiplex LN-5014 Multicharger (you can find all the info on http://www.multiplexusa.com/ ), to charge my flight packs and a LiPo battery pack. However, the manual doesn't say anything about how much current you need to run through your batteries in order to charge them ... (I can choose anything between 0.1A - 5A) Then I found [link=http://www.yourzagi.com/batterybasics.htm]this[/link] webpage which explained a bit about charging currents. As I understand it, you need to charge your battery with the same amount of mah as the pack has. So say a 4-cell 800mah NiCd pack, would be charged for 1 hour at 0.8A; a 2-cell 1500mah LiPo pack, would be charged at 1.5A for 1 hour and so on ... Is this correct ? In short: How do you calculate the charging current of a NiMH, NiCd, LiPo and LiIon pack ? (and what's the difference between a fast charge and a normal charge ?)

RE: Airplanes for dummies.
ORIGINAL: Carbsumer Good question, and something I was confused about at first, too. The set of several wires with the white cap goes to a balance charger which can individually charge each of the different cells in the lipo battery.
So if I want to charge a 2 cell LiPo pack, I have to connect my charger to the plug with the white cap and not to the big one that goes into the ESC ? Also, I read in the manual of my ESC, that you should install 'motor suppressors' on the electric motor ... what are those and how does that work ? (If I'm correct, thenn the picture below is a picture of the back of an electric motor with 3 motor suppressors attached to it) [image]http://www.netshop.nl/shop/krikkem/contents/media/r4008.jpg[/image]

RE: charging a 4.8volt, 700mah, 0.7Ah batterie on a 50ma plug ...
ORIGINAL: JNorton Prophex You can use the 50mA port. Just plug into your equation. 700 X 1.4 / 50 = 980 / 50 = 19.6 hours. Wall wart chargers that come with transmitters are basically constant current sources. It'll work fine. Constant current sources are only for C/10 charging just as your manual recommended. John
Ok, I'll use that port then. But just out of curiosity

The outputs have the following constant voltages: - the 50 mA output has a constant current of 6 volt - the 150 mA has one of 7.2 volt - and the 500 mA output has a constant current of 3 volt Also the batterie I want to charge is a Ni-Cd batterie (don't know if this matters) and the charger is a 'Graupner multilader 6E'.

To be honnest, I still don't quite get it ... Well, now I know how to choose a motor (with that "Watts per pound-rule") but what about an esc and battery ? I guess that I will go with this setup then: Axi 2208/34 (outrunner) 10x3.8 APC CastleCreations Pheonix 10 2s Thunderpower 900 Although, I would like to know if you can also use that motor in a more heavy plane then the 250 gram shockflyer.

RE: how do u take off
Choose a big wide open space (a huge piece of farm land is always the best choice) and search for a small stroke of short grass to use as a place to take of and land your plane. Next: - Range check (check if your radio has no interference) - Check all surfaces (make sure everything is working as it should) - fill the gas tank - start your plane - push throttle all the way to 100 % while holding the plane, pik it up and hold it in several positions (to check if the engine won't die on you if you're in the air) - get a grip on yourself and realise what you're about to do ... (best to get some simulator time before you go on your own) - push throttle back to 100 %, keep the nose and tail of the plane on a staight line as your plane will start speeding up over the runway, when fast enough, pull back on the elevator and watch your plane go in the air. - enjoy ... HOWEVER, if this is your first flight on your first plane, even on any plane, the first flight is a trim flight. Meaning that the chanse is that your plane will spin as soon as it gets in the air, because of a minor building default. Now an experienced pilot wouldn't have that big a problem with this, but YOU WILL (that's how I lost my plane) so just get an instructor, unless you're a narutal offcourse [8|]
