RE: Twist 60 knife edge?
You are right David. I have a Twist 40, and it will knife edge, but not very well. I always wants to squirm out of KE. I can fly it constantly and hold it in, but it is a lot of work. I thought it was just me, but all of my other planes (except speed planes) knife edge pretty well. They spin really good though.

RE: Air Buble in my fuel lines
I fought this exact same problem with my FX61. I replaced needle valve O ring and the banjo seals. Nothing worked. I solved it by buying a remote needle valve and bypassing the OS one. I used a Jett needle, but any remote needle will work.

RE: prop 55ax at 4500 feet
I usually run a 12 x 5 on mine at 5000 feet and it works great. Play around with a few. Keep in mind these engines need 20% oil with some of it castor. Make sure the engine is well broken in, which can take a while on these. I would run 15% nitro at your altitude and an OS8 plug as well. Great engine, I love all of mine, the stock ones and the modified ones. Good Luck Scot

I use either tracing paper or carbon paper. I glue the templates to the wood with rubber cement. Easy to clean off and it does not penetrate the wood so no weight is added.

RE: OS 1.20AX Unexplained Flameouts.......>>>
Agreed. OS engines with their nickel liners like more oil, and they like some castor. I would add 2-3 oz of castor to your 16% oil fuel. Then I would look for a fuel delivery problem. It does sound like it got hot and shut off. Was it cool in the morning when you flew it with no problems? Did it warm up when you had it die in flight? Just a thought. Having the cowl "hogged out" does not always mean good airflow for cooling. The air needs to flow across the head and cylinder, and have a way out. Start by closing off the cheek entrance on the other side of the cowl so no air gets in that does not go over the cylinder. Give the air an exit of at least 3 times the area of the entrance, and again place the exit so the air flows across the engine to cool it on its way out. You can check this first by flying without the cowl on a hot day. I am also not a big fan of pitts mufflers, but on a 120 it should not do too much harm. It will cost you some power, but you should have some to spare. Good Luck Scott

RE: OS Max 91fx Shutting off above 3/4 throttle, HELP!
I would put both engines on a test stand and get them to run correctly. It sure sounds like a tank or fuel line problem since both engines share the same symptoms. When you get your new tank, put it together and use it on your test stand. When both engines run correctly with the new tank and fuel lines, put the tank in the plane and run it. It should be fine at that time, and you can fly. I agree with most posters, it sounds lean or has a severe fuel delivery problem.

RE: Which Epoxy?
I agree with Speedracerntrixie. If you are gluing anything structural or important, use ONLY laminating epoxy and use it correctly. This is more work than just slapping some glue on it and sticking it together, but the results are well worth the trouble. Surface prep really is the key. I use West 105 with slow hardener. It takes a while, but I never want to worry about a failure when I am abusing one of my planes. I usually make firewall or landing gear block installations the last thing I do on a build day, and the glue will be dry the next day. Bottom line, you can not take shortcuts with structural bonds and expect things to stay together. Good luck Scott

RE: OS 91 VRDF and 10 x 10 prop, Best airframe?
ORIGINAL: freakingfast
ORIGINAL: airraptor I would look at some other props also as the regular blade 14x14 is a very big load for this engine. If you get the 14x14N (narrow) would pull it just fine. I would also look at a 14x12 and 14x13 regular blade prop also. a 15x11 might be good also for the first flight.
Raptor's usually on the mark, and this is no exception. I was thinking the same thing originally: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=11137593. After looking at flying_wing's photo, it looks like it's got some drag issues, so something less than 14 pitch may be optimal. Investing in the last four props raptor mentioned would be wise. Also by adding an extension to a tuned muffler/pipe's outlet as seen in the photo, this may have been detrimental to the ultimate power available. The main advantage to the tuned pipe is you can tune it to enhance the engine's true peak hp, whereas a tuned muffler may be close, but not necessarily dead on. Usually 2-300 rpm down from a well tuned pipe. The pipe's disadvantage is....you have to tune it. Tho the muffler is compact, and the pipe is long, however this can help direct the exhaust smut away from the plane.
I was thinking the same thing. The Jett muffler is pretty close to a full lengyh pipe in terms of power, and is probably easier. They seem to weigh about the same. Dub makes his tuned mufflers for different RPM ranges as well, so you can choose one that is made for the RPM you will run.

RE: MidWest Sweet-Stick Plans
If you have the plans you should be good. Make a copy you can cut up, or trace the fuse sides. It is just a box, so measure the top and side views to get the formers. Where there is triangle stock cut the corners off. I scratch built my last two Sweet Stick 40's that way. I only needed a couple of tracings, wing ribs, fuse sides, and tail shape. I will measure out the formers and mail them to you if you like. Good luck. Scott

Call Macs products and get a header and pipe from them. There are a few different pipes depending on how quiet you want it to be. Be sure to tune the pipe length correctly and you will be happy with the results. If you have never tuned a pipe PM me and I will send you quick directions. It is pretty easy, but it takes a little time. Good luck Scott

RE: os 91 fx problem
My modified FX61 had needle valve problems for a long time. I tried replacing O rings, and even a new needle, I could not get rid of the leak. I could see bubbles in the hose from the needle to the carb. I took the stock needle valve assembly off of the backplate and replaced it with a remote needle valve attached to the plastic motor mount. Problem solved for good. I agree with the previous poster, this is not a low rpm engine. I run either a 12x6 or 13x5 at about 14,200 on the ground slightly rich. Mine has a Performance Specialties piston and cylinder, ported crank, and larger carb. I run 15%, but I live at 5000 feet.

RE: Boca bearings for OS .35 AX
I run a lot of OS engines, and I have a habit of running them pretty hard. Change the bearings to good aftermarket ones. Listen to what freakingfast has to say. I stay away from ceramic because they are too brittle. Ever nick a prop?? That can shatter a ceramic bearing, not worth the extra couple hundred rpm for me. I seem to be landing challenged sometimes. I have a personal rule for any OS engine - 20% oil. 25%castor and 75% synthetic. I have never peeled a nickel liner with the extra oil I run. The bearings still wear out eventually, so keep an eye on them. Good luck. Scott

RE: Replacement Muffler for Super Tigre 90
Call Dub Jett and get a Jettstream muffler. They are by far the best, but kind of expensive. They give a modest power boost and will last forever if you do not plow it into the runway. Stay away from any Pitts style mufflers for performance and tuning reasons. Macs makes nice mufflers and tuned pipe headers for a reasonable price and are of high quality as well. Good Luck Scott

On my planes that I care about I make my own wing bags. I usually buy cheap sleeping bags on sale, or the same material at the fabric store. Mine are not show pieces, but the sleeping bag material is very padded, so the planes are protected. Anything is better than nothing, especially for long trips.

RE: OS 46FX problem - see pics
There is another option. Contact Performance Specialties and get a high performance piston and cylinder for it. Dave makes great chrome plated cylinders with a little more port timing. Break them in correctly and they will last a long time while giving you some more power. I have seen many OS cylinders peel the nickel liner, usually from improper break in, (the run it rich and fly it crowd) and from not running caster in the fuel. These things like 19-20% oil with about 5% or it caster. Treated right they will last. Good Luck Scott
