Since I posted last she's been lowered 3,"got a real intake, some small upgrades to the lighting to make it look newer and a little 10" subwoofer. Two child seats fit in the back amazingly enough. I think I only get to to keep it because my son always requests to ride in it over mommy'y corolla and already wants it when he's older(he just turned 3).
ORIGINAL: sundogz Long time gone, Quicksilver,. IB3600 equivalent - 16cell? Wasn't the IB3600 a 6 or 7 cell (7.4 to 8.4v) NIMH with 3600mah capacity and a 30C (thereabouts) discharge rating? A 2S (7.4v) lipo now will give you much more capacity or run time than the NIMH for the same weight (or the same capacity for less weight). You will be surprised and happy. Welcome back! [/quote

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
I've actually got a question, my IB3600's died from lack of use and I want to get the villain up and running again. What's a 16 cell equivalent lipo running price wise these days, with similar amp hours of the IB's? Also what company is good now for nimh anymore? I remember when I bought the IB's like a decade ago, the IB's and GP's were getting tough to find. God I'm so out of touch I dont even understand some of the acronyms you guys are using now, I feel very old lol.
ORIGINAL: dont slow down I bought one to put into a Nikko boat I'm planning on using as a recovery boat. When I got it I realized it was much smaller than I thought. My boat is about 24'' long so I decided to run two jets instead of 1. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding the rear part of the hull and transom to fit both. I had to cut out the original prop, shaft, and scag (fin on the bottom) I plan on using Traxxas 18t 380 motors to give them a little more power. I'm working on it today and will be cutting the bottom panel and then cuttin the holes for the jet drive. I'll post up some pics as it comes together.
I'm back from the dead again. Yay a nikko boat conversion! that was what got me obsessed with jets. Mine used the same darn jet drive I still use (29mm) with a 27t trinity motor and 8 cells. What a freaking monster that was, if I remember correctly it was like 14-15" I remember it took off once(using a mechanical speed control, hit a 39ft bayliner at my marina went under the bottom and flew up out the other side and luckily the motor then died, craziness.

RE: Please, dear God, make them stop!
I used to fly balsa models but the foam models are so much easier to pack around in the car and easy to fix.. No fuel mess, no nitro or gas to buy.. They tend to bounce if you make a mistake... balsa blows up on impact... I have cartwheeled my typhoon 2 so many times and just pick it up and toss it back in the air... I own 5 planes right now and not one is made of balsa.... Ive had 1/4 scale cubs and every style of balsa plane, but for me foam is the ticket... I dont fly at a field cause the nearest one is 40 miles away. Would I ever take a foam plane to a field..... I doubt it. Im not bragging about flying foam planes, I fly them out of convenience.. If I break something I tape it, glue it or buy a new one and its good to go.. Im not trying to impress anyone....just trying to have some inexpensive fun.

Good to here from you guys, the little one is doing well, just about 14 months old now, already has an rc... an rc thomas the tank, he actually seems to get the concept, just has a bit of trouble turning. My truck is an E-revo VXL, running 12 cell nimh. It so ridiculously fast, the only place I can drive it is a baseball field. Luckily this purchas was justified as my son loves watching it. lol Grael that process sounds pretty good, only one thing I can think of... you dont get any warping from such a light mold? I could just see that at the very least being a potential problem, but very nice easy process none the less. and now I've got to go check out that big jet boat, sounds awesome

Bought a really fast rc truck and an old antique pond yacht but my fast boats are in storage. I'm glad to see so some familiar names like grael, whom I consider one of the fore most expert in jets and sundogz..... are dragonfire and headhunter still here, I dont really have the time to look back through every page. But thought I'd say hello.

first time in this thread, I must say I love this truck. I do have one problem, it would appear I've bent the lower rear balljoint, which explains why my truck traveled 20ft on 2 wheels at WOT [:D]. I hope the part is easy to get. Either way, saying hello.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
I'm sorry I just don't get it. ^^^^^ but I'm all for experiments so I hope you take a video. I did just look up the nacelle method of jet drive installation and I get it, but I'm not too sure you did this correctly. From what I gather you would mount the jet flush with the bottom of the keel and build up around the inlet, you mounted well below the keel. hypothesis; porpoise like crazy, wouldn't be surprised if it rolled. I do have a possible way to fix it though, if you keep the back of the inlet the way it is and make the delta and ride pad in front of the inlet level with the bottom of the keel making a sort of ram type intake. I apologize, I'm very blunt sometimes, but than I get frustrated by the lack of constructive criticism on the site. The site I frequent most nowadays is so blunt they/we scare away half the people.

those vids are rough to watch and figure out, but it looks to me like the hull is reaching it's max speed. Could try a loader grate, basically a scoop at the back. Have you tried some choppy water? You might get different results. Whenever I ran my yellow jet boat on flat water it handled horrible, but in a little chop it handled higher speeds. just some thoughts

RE: skiboat
I could be wrong, it happens a lot, but I don't think you'll have much luck finding a boat like that in hobby grade form. That boat in the video is most likely a one off, like a lot of ours. Quite honestly you'll probably have better luck either building your own or finding a toy quality one, from places like walmart. you can always start out with a hull and modify it to look the way you want, in that case just buy a hobby grade boat with bare bones equipment so you get a good hull but don't have to worry about throwing out expensive electronics and/or hardware and obviously that way it's cheaper. it'll depend on your budget and abilities.

RE: The Unofficial all things Jet drive thread
ORIGINAL: TwinJetMax Wow, it is hard to make stuff on cad. The BRL-Cad I didn't get, and the art of illusion is limited greatly because you cannot achieve depth perception. I got an intake pretty good, but failed at a stator. I have applied for a crash course for bah, I'm still waiting to move unfortunately. quote is not working for me wtf it's not even letting me display certain characters. Some bad or if anything words of caution in CAD. It is not easy. Not that I needed to tell you that, but in HS I took 3 years od AutoCAD, I didn't really have it down till the end of the second year and this was back before 3d rendering. If you're dedicated, you might learn quicker, but I'm just warning you, you have to give it your all. I actually got AutoCAD 2009 in an attempt to pick it up again and figure out 3d and to be honest, I can remember most of it, but to learn the 3d aspect, I'd need a course. Now 3d is more of for your own visualization of a project and to run through tooling like Grael does, but you will learn that once you have 2D down you'll know what you're making just using that. The best thing is being able to print out actual plans :).and heck you can do some 3D with iso mode(just not full renders). I'm sure I'm just behind so much that is seems harder to go the next step than it is, but like I said just stick to it. It's like learning an instrument. ride plate looks great btw you are getting it. I'm kicking myself for ever cutting off that nice razor sharp extention on my ride plate. I had it right the first time [:@]
ORIGINAL: TwinJetMax It still has tremendous leaks in it. I think pressure is building up in my cooing jacket and bursting out. I am going to add a pair of outlets to the existing one. That should solve it.
Keep in mind that testing the bathtub stationary is going to put more strain on the motor, and this also increases pressure on the cooling system, since the load is high. As said, need open water test, but just put some clamps on your hoses, if you think it them.

I agree with dragon, personally I'm not sure I'd get eitherjust because they're really old designs, but out the two I agree. Just a for instance that hull costs $46 and you need to build the hul vs. a villain hull, that's premade and can be found for $50. Not that I'm suggesting you need a villain, but just suggesting perhaps you should look around more. Heck If I was going to actually build a jet boat hull, I'd just do it from scratch.

It pathetic, but I'm happy, I finally put a new bottom in the jet villain and it only took 14 months. [:D] Well, it took about 2hrs worth of work and 13months and change to get the plan down.. j/k I can say this time unlike version 8.0, the hull is now flat. I'm going for flexibility up front so I used bass wood and West System G-flex epoxy and cloth. The special epoxy should bend a bit instead of breaking like normal epoxy. I'll go with my standard 1/8" thick aluminum in the back. The bottom is obviously just shaped out a bit, small apartment and pregnant wife means, very little time for sanding and the like. I'm also working on a gimble for the nozzle, figured the boat should float before I go working on that.
