RE: RC Surfer
Hi Jimi, we are doing a lot of RC-flying (Electro-Deltas "Pibros") at the moment. You can do this about anywhere, and you don't need waves. 250km are quite a distance :-( August - Spain - that's our next opportunity. Take care! Rainer

My 28ers work fine in both of my surfers - power enough - by far ;-) However, you need a new motor mounting angle for 28-motors. What is the advantage of 36-motors?

My son Julius 'got his RC surfer (= blonde Lisa with red wet suit) for his 10th birthday, last year in July. In parallel I 'got myself my RC surfer (= black Lisa with green wet suit). 'Till then we've been trying to improve our Lisas and us (= our riding/surfing skills). Meanwhile, I must admit Julius is better than me ;-) Take care! Rainer

RE: RC Surfer
Ebony and ivory - surfing in perfect harmony… Riders: my son Julius and me I tested the "negative rocker" on my Black Lisa's board. It sure makes her go faster and with less bouncing on FLAT water, but when it comes to narrow turns on the wave's face she now suddenly shows the tendency to catch (= to point her nose down and to dive into the water) which she never did before. My son's board (= Blonde Lisa without negative rocker) could carve turns into the wave's face much more radical without any catching or diving problems. Result: I will remove the negative rocker from my Black Lisa's board again. Take care! Rainer

RE: RC Surfer
SENSATION!! My local dealer has got an original Kyosho dude! I didn't have the time to ask for the price, yet. The dude doesn't look too good anyway (lots of cracks in the legs, etc.) But one thing I could clearly see was the fact that the board has really got negative rocker. However, this negative rocker is not shaped across the entire width of the board's tail. It is more like a slim wedge approx. 5mm thick and approx. 40mm wide behind the rudder. Hard to explain (especially as English is not my mother language) but I copied this negative rocker to my black Lisa's board as precisely as I could - see pics attached. Can't wait to test the effect! Take care! Rainer

RE: RC Surfer
The more I look for ESCs in the range of 60-120A the more I think that only two types mainly exist - just labelled differently: 1. The fat, cheap China type with 41mm width, e.g.: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=15132 or: http://cgi.ebay.de/Water-Cool-Brushless-Motor-Seaking-100A-ESC-for-Boat-/400195321721?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item5d2d7fff79 2. The slim Seaking/Turnigy type with 33mm width, e.g.: http://cgi.ebay.de/Seaking-60A-Brushless-ESC-for-Boat-burst-current-120A-/120644800336?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item1c16fd8f50 or: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9101 Somehow, they all look like these two types.

RE: RC Surfer
My blonde Lisa has got a 41mm-ESC (120A, cheap China thing - no Seaking), which I really had to squeeze in between motor and inner hull wall. Next time I go for an ESC with 32-33mm width. That's is way easier to mount. Take care! Rainer

RE: RC Surfer
The motor looks exactly like the one I've got (by Seaking). Very powerful (even vor size 28) but a "current eater" - 'means you won't get too long runtimes with it. I would take a slower motor with less than or max. 3000kV. The ESC is too wide (with 41mm), especially when you will go for a size 36 motor. Better go for a slimmer one, e.g. Seaking 60A with BEC: http://cgi.ebay.de/Seaking-60A-Brushless-ESC-for-Boat-burst-current-120A-/120644800336?pt=RC_Modellbau&hash=item1c16fd8f50 Take care! Rainer

RE: RC Surfer
I did the same test with my standard 27MHz TX/RX - but with another result: Antenna inside an off road buggy > no problem Antenna inside my Lisa's board - lost transmission after 4-5 meters. An off road buggy normaly has a rather thin and open car body. Lisa's board is thicker and absolutely tight and hence shields the antenna way more!

RE: RC Surfer
Thanks, Jimi - that's interesting information! I'm really thinking of adding some negative rocker, as well. Sure, my Lisas bounce at full throttle on flat water. However, so far my impression was that they surf and carve well as soon as waves come into play. BUT: Anything can be improved! ;-)
