RE: soldering station
have you guys ever used/heard of Aoyue soldering stations? I saw one, the 2900, that looks comparable to the WESD51, and has a solder spool, at less than half the price of it, $60. Seems a little too good to be true to me, but I dunno...

RE: soldering station
why specifically the 936 over the WESD51? I'm a little turned off by Hakko's 90 day warranty as to Weller's year warranty. Still, I have to say I think both should have longer warranties. Sorry about like grilling you, just trying to find out a little info on which station to buy. I appreciate the help man!

RE: soldering station
so I went on the hakko site and I saw some stations for under $100 and then some for around $200. I'm already squeezing the budget a lot with the Weller at $130, so I can't do the $200 Hakko, but is the Hakko 936 ESD any good? How does it compare to the Weller WESD51? Although I probably can't pay this much for the Hakko 937, would it really be worth the money over the WESD51 or the 936 ESD? Thanks for the info guys!

RE: Tamiya Pajero-Collective Build
so how are all the 'jero's doing? Mine is currently sitting around since I'm mostly playing with the CRT.5 I just got. I also think I lost the steering linkage so a replacement part is in place currently, but it's not the right fit so steering isn't too good. I got the highlift tires and HPI vintage wheels on there, looks sweet! I'll post up pics in a few days.

RE: E-maxx with 2.2 Tires
some large 2.2" tires such as the moab tires are nearly equal in size to maxx sized tires, however 4" tires might be a little too small for the emaxx.

RE: looking for Mamba Max 5700...
Tower has the 5700 motor in stock so you could buy the motor and then find the ESC from elsewhere. Here's the link for the motor: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNKU4&P=7 Good luck!

RE: Yeah Racing LiPo batteries?
the 3200mah pack can only deliver 20C and it has a lower capacity so it is limited to 64 amps continuous output. That simply won't do in a BL setup or low turn brushed. The 4000mah pack is 25C and has a larger capacity so it can supply 100amps continuously which is plenty for a BL system. I think the 4000mah pack is well worth the extra money since it will perform a lot better.

RE: Emaxx ESC Questions??
the EVX will totally handle 2 lathe motors. They are really low turn so it'll be able to handle them no problem, even on 2 batteries if you want high voltage for better performance.

RE: Mamba max on 4s lipo.
definitely a BEC, and a really high performance fan. It needs to push a LOT of air. Also you may consider (since you're voiding your warranty anyway by running 4s) to open up the case, take off the heatsink (should be lightly resting on the electronic circuit board or perhaps secured... a powerful fan also you might want to raise the ESC above some chassis obstructions such as motors

RE: What to get? Sidewinder or Mamba Max.
ORIGINAL: Caaine Thanks for the replies, Li-poly got me on the right track (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_ion_polymer_battery). If I am gonna do basic bashing, top speed not the concern rather runtime am I better off with a 4600Kv SW and 3s or is there a huge difference by running the 5700Kv SW and I should sacrifice runtime with 2s? There is very little price difference in the 4600 and 5700 SW, I assume it differs on the batteries and/or chargers then? Rgds, Caaine
For basic bashing I would go for the SW 5700 and a 2s lipo. 2s versus 3s has nothing to do with runtime. It is simply the voltage. One has 2 cells, where each cell supplies 3.7 volts, the other has 3 cells where each supplies 3.7 volts. So one pack can give 7.4V while the other gives 11.1V. The higher the voltage the better the performance the motor will give. However if you want to run 3s on the 5700 you'll have to buy first of all, a more expensive battery, then the more expensive mamba max ESC, and then the performance might be too much for a light truck like yours. I think you'd be best off with the 5700 motor, sidewinder ESC, and a 2s lipo. That setup would be a good amount of speed and the price is too bad compared to other systems. Good luck [;)]

RE: Gearing?
I have the stock 102T spur gear on it. I ran the 4.5R motor in my TA05 a while ago and it had a 70T 48P spur and I ran a 17-19T pinion on it. If I use the same ratio I should get a 25-27T pinion on it for the TRF415. I just don't want to drop $10-20 on a set of pinions and have them be the wrong size. I appreciate the help [;)]

RE: Worthy of another post?! LB's Tamiya M-B 1850L Delivery Truck!
ugh I really don't like that idea. The whole point of the semi trucks is to build up one of the most amazing kits that tamiya offers. Same for the CR-01 and the highlift and hilux. All amazing kits and I would really hate to see them as RTR's, but RTR's sell : ( In the end it's not the manufacturer to blame, they're out there to make money and sell their stuff, but more the consumer population. We're saying "we don't have the patience or skill to build up a nice kit, give it to us in RTR!" I do hope in the future they continue to sell a good variety of kits though, otherwise I'll have to buy RTR's, rip out the junk electronics and then disassemble it completely and build it back up! RE: Is this a good lipo charger cause it is REALLY cheap.
ORIGINAL: supamagician Oh wow. Well thanks a bunch for that info. lol. I think I will just stick with my NiMH packs lol.
yeah lipo is amazing, but it's not cheap! There's loads of stuff you need for charging and maintaining a lipo battery. My setup is a converted computer powersupply to supply 12DC to my charger (cost for the supply $30), then my Duratrax ICE charger ($130), then my liposack (to contain any possible fires from a damaged lipo pack, $25), then a balancer to keep both the cells at the same voltage/condition and make the pack live longer ($25), and finally my lipo, 2S 5000mah 25C pack ($95). I didn't all buy it at once since that would give me a heart attack. This is by far not the cheapest way you can do things. For instance you can get an AC balancing charger for close to $60-80. Then if you charge outside in a contained area (like build your battery a house of bricks), you may choose to forgo the liposack. And then for lipos there's a lot of stuff out there for decent prices. In the end it can make sense, if you're dropping close to $200 on a brushless system, as more and more people are (all the VXl rusters and pedes!), then it makes sense to supply the power for the system with something that matches its performance. Also a lipo pack has a lot longer life span than a nimh pack so paying $50 for a nice nimh pack is not as good of an investment as $100 for a lipo. All things to consider. If it's something you want to do then you can expect to pay about $130 at least. Basically you get what you pay for usually, and that charger would work, but you would probably be happier with a set of good nimh bashing packs : ) Good luck!

RE: What car should i get???
the TA05 is a great car! With your budget you should be able to get the TA05-IFR which is really sweet! That said a TA05 is still a TA05 (base model is about $150). For the price of the IFSR ($275) I got a TRF415 (they were having a huge sale), but that kit is in a different league of cars compared to the TA05. The TRF has no plastic chassis components and all the parts are tamiyas best offerings, the TA05 is good, but it's a more entry level car. If you find something like the TRF415 or a TC5 or equivalent for a price near $300 that would be a better buy than the TA05-IFSR

RE: Is this a good lipo charger cause it is REALLY cheap.
. What the "C" rating means is how many amps the pack can give. C is the capacity of the pack. So a 6000mah 20C pack can deliver 120 amps or 20 times C (it's capacity). So your pack with a capacity

RE: S-600's questions
ORIGINAL: 500 lb. koolaid man Thanks for all the replies. I got them installed and the truck runs a lot faster. I also threw some heat sinks on them. This is a little off topic but... I installed deans plugs yesterday before dropping in the S-600's. It didn't wheelie before I installed the new plugs.[X(] Here's a video of that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBoGSTt4msA Sorry no video yet with the S-600's[:o] Pic with the new motors and deans [image]http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/3062/dscn0511di8.jpg[/image]
I see that you installed the deans between the batteries and the ESC which is good, but you might want to consider doing the same for the connectors between the ESC and the motors. The connectors you have on there currently (bullet connectors) are also quite high in resistance. Not as bad as the tamiya plugs, but I think they're something like 2/3 as high which is still a lot!

Gearing for TRF415?
Hi guys, I'm building up my TRF415 and I'm wondering what gearing I should run. I'm going to be using a velociti 4.5R motor hooked up to my GTB esc and that'll all be running on a 2s 5000mah lipo. The tire size is either going to be 58mm or 61mm. I need a 64P pinion, but I don't know how many teeth I should get on it. Thanks!

RE: Long Lasting Tires
yeah I had that problem with my TA05, had a GTB/4.5R combo in there and it wore down the tires in like 4 packs (not all the way through, but close to it). I am wondering what tires to get for my TRF415. I was thinking of getting these: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXCZD2&P=M They're pretty cheap, but if they wear down as fast again then they're not worth it. Would foam tires work well for running it on the street or in parking lots? Thanks!
