JR and Spektrum radio confusion
I would appreciate some clarification please from those that KNOW... I currently fly JR radio's and prefer to keep that particular brand. I've been semi out of the loop regarding info of JR and Spektrum radios. What appears to me that JR only offers a limited amount of radios, toward the higher end radios compared with previous years and while Spektrum covers those areas along with the "lower" series of radios, aka, 6,7 channel type of radios. Am also a little confused regarding JR and Spektrum radios, are they the same companies ? Do their products interchange between themselves? I've been on both of their web sites (factory) and still haven't gotten a conclusive answer. Thanks for any info along these lines.

RE: top flite p-51 giant scale build
Sundance: I too have a TF P-51 along with a brand new ST 60 twin I purchased several years ago on e bay. Nope, it's not built yet. I am still getting the "right looking cowling" for it. It won't be started for a bit yet. I've got all the retracts for it and the support accessories. Are you aware the the fuel distribution problems with the rear cylinder running hot on the Super Tigre. There is a fix for it though. Give me a shout back and let me known what's going on with yours. I too thought about building a custom exhaust system for realism. My uncle flew a P-51 during the war and I will be replicating it in his colors and all. Mike Miller - Bellingham,Wa.

A little side bar question guys...... The plans of the Ultrasport 1000, could you "scratch" a plane off of those. Are all the pertinent info included on the plans. ie.. formers, fuse sides, wing ribs, or the profile of the rib at the root and tip etc, etc. Thanks for any info Mike

RE: is SIG on it's death bed?
Besides windmill usage, it also goes into ocean going tankers, in their "holds" to insulate the products they carry. That takes "bunches" of balsa to perform that task.

It may sound like a "canned" response, as the term has been used many, many times, but I "GENUINELY, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE to this great country." When you great back and get your new plane trimmed out, the best I would like to hear from you, is that, your tires have worn out and that you'll have to replace them ! :) Make sure you include photo's here of your plane and the "worn out" tires. Say "hi" to your buds and thank them for me.

RE: Drilling a Socket Head Bolt
I am in agreement with Scirocco 14, I too have the same drilling fixture for when I built race cars. Bar none this is the way to go. Aircraft Spruce has one for 60.00 bucks and it is a duplicate to Scirocco 14's. Also, Summit racing has one for 40.00 bucks, but it may not be able to go to our small sizes that we use in modelling.. You may want to use cobalt drill bits also, there engineered

RE: Garage workshop
On your HVAC. Here's one suggestion. What ever you put in, you have to take out ! Meaning whether cooling or heat you need to allow for exiisting "air" to circulate. Much like building a cowling for one of our models. heat being generated by the engine, and allow "heated" air around the engine to escape to the outside. Likewise using your cars airconditoning/heater appication, you "crack" a window to rapidly exhaust the heated air out quickly to allow the cool conditioned air work in your "HOT" car if your using the "cooling" side of the HVAC. Also, IF you go the existing HVAC system make sure it is big enough (tonnage wise) to support the additional square footage of the shop, without laboring the original system. Good point on your "return" air application. Most likely you would have to "crack" a window, or let the "conditioned" air/heat seep our through the various areas, doors, windows, garage doors, etc. It sounds like with what info you've given you may be better off to have a seperate wall mounted A/C / heating system installed. Maybe one like the motels use, aka... the window mounted HVAC unit, where by in one swoop you have ac, heating and fresh/return air. Your only concern is, can your house elecrical panel support the additional amps, where the panel is located, and where you want to run the wiring, etc. Just some ideas for you to ponder. :)

RE: Garage workshop
Jumping ahead of the game. Your inteiror finish. With your drywall, a suggestion. Finish taping and "mudding",sanding and sanding. Prime and at least a couple of coats of "refrigerator white" paint, semi gloss. Install plenty of flourescent lighting, I've installed "high output" 8 foot flouresencent lighting in my shop and with our Northwest cloudy days etc. It really helps for lighting for our overall needs in the hobby.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
NM2K well said. I to have been at it awhile. One of my sayings, "in order to practice your flying, you've got to practice your building". No, you don't crash ALL the time in order to gain expeirence, but, as always a learning curve, even with "quality" kits, instructions, etc. to GUIDE you, the builder is the final decison maker, and many, many times it comes from expeirence and seeing your results in a SAFE, flyable aircraft. Yeah, I am familar with Orbit, buddies, of mine, 3 of them flew Orbit. One was featured in an ad, showing him flying with his antenna collasped while the plane was still in full control. And remember the "Digit Midget", Yep, the smell of fresh balsa and ambroid, oops, CA :) Yeah could go on and on, just got back out of the shop, readying a fresh .15 Mustang pylon racer. Have a good one.

RE: ATTENTION DANGER CARL GOLDBERG SPINERS
Old school here.... I am not discounting plastic spinners and the various ways how they attach to the engine/motor and procedures of attaching them. Earlier I did use all plastic spinner and backing plate, that all we had then (late sixties) then I went to a aluminum backing plate and plastic spinner, now I use all aluminum backing and spinner. I can't comment on the "newer" carbon fiber series have had no expeirence or use of them. My history of use, is that I've had a all plastic spinner/backing plate series fly apart at certain times, with smaller and larger engine sizes. With the aluminum backing plate and plastic spinner and all aluminum backing and spinnner, I've never had a problem with them. Yes, on a "backfire" I've had an aluminum backing plate and plastic spinner, the spinner has come off and fortunately no injuries were inccured. Yes, the all metal construction of an aluminum serie of spinner are a little spendy, but in my eyes, what price is safety in this area.

RE: Where Have All The Kits Gone ?
Ricky2000..... As for the Mustang.... Make a new kit off the old/new parts and build the the ...stang with the new parts you've just created. Might take note on the the original parts is to compare the size(s) to the plans. Granted plans can shrink/expand through time, but, if your going to make a kit, might as well make the parts accurate. Yes, it would be LABOR intensive, but the goal would be still having an original kit etc. I am glad you like the thread, I am the original "poster" of the thread. I scratch and build from kits, and have assembled a ARF or two, but that's my limit though [;)] I am currently finishing up a .15 size Mustang for racing, it is an ARF... but being safety concious and wanting the plane to fly straight and true for the rigors of racing, I "bashed" it to my standards within all the rules listed in our club. I wish now I would have "scratched" one as it would have been exactly what I wanted as for the build and flying characteristic's, I've put in to much "time" in this one in making it "right". I've heard that the Nosen kits tend to be "weak" in certain areas, first of all, I've seen one or two Nosen Mustangs years ago that flew. That's my expeirence with this particular "kit". If you do decide to "make a kit", a suggestion is to review what the plan reflects for design, the type of wood being used for that particular area and how that area would affect the safety/build/flying on a whole. Just my two cents worth !

Has this been done in the past and has it worked is the question. Take a .15 CV-X (buggy version) series liner and piston install in a .15 CV-A (aircraft version) and what the results were? I know you have to consider the techanical aspects, ie: port timing etc, etc along wih the mechanical application of it fitting at all? Thank you for any input.

RE: No more MA event listings.
Hummm.... First of all I am in agreement with Mr. Cain's statements regarding the "non" publishing of events in the M/A magazine. Officially I've been a member of AMA since 1972 consistently throughout those years. Another organization of which I 've been a member during the same time is the E.A.A. (Expeirmental Aviation Association) they to have evolved into the electronic media along with revamping their pubication (Sport Aviation). My point being is that, a "hands on", "tangible" copy of this and other applications within the current magazine goes a long ways to plan, discuss, etc with board members, fellow modelers, vacations, etc. Consistently the local model club I belong to, the board members are confering "will our events go in conflict with others on the same or adjoining weekends, etc. As for "tangibility" ( is that a word !) it is very nice to "page back and forth" to review what is happening between events etc. And here's another thought they (A.M.A.) may have come up on this forums or others, "Is this the beginning of the end?" Meaning that with these baby steps of electronic media, that A.M.A. may consider and put into place a "electronic media" publication only? Or downsize it so much that it (the current M.A.) could only act as a "advertising flyer" that you would recieve most information on the electronic side of information. Just some thoughts. I hope A.M.A. folks do peruse these forums steadfastly as I believe that they will get more "honest" input from the modellers than they would receive within their own electronic media.

RE: PORT POLISHING TWO STROKE ENGINES
My suggestion is DON"T do it ! Reason being, todays engines are finely crafted, ie: cnc maching processes along with engineering designs. Where by the two and other criteiria produces a good running engine (s) Years ago, I went the same route, of "cleaning" up things, really didn't seen (taching) any difference. You need to consider the WHOLE package of mods, ie: timing, compression, fuel induction, type of fuel, prop and many other factors. Those that provide QUALITY engine service work typically have many years of expertise. One thing the "old school" guys that flew control line speed, tether, tether car racing, etc and were brought up with older designs were susceptical to mods thus helping with performance. My $.02 worth

Magazine dedicated to kit/plans/scratch builders
I thought the lead in title would catch your eye. Well again I throw this out for general consideration and creative dialog. I currently subscribe to several model aircraft publications along with a publication that is provided by membership to a LARGE national modeling association. I just received the newest issue from this organization and while perusing through it, many of the ads represent current trends in" complete aircraft to the field quickly aspect". Primarily, assembled componets pre built, or an RTC, ARF or completed aircraft. Also with general content of like matter, with smaller sub sections to different areas of our great hobby. Please note that I am considering ALL aircraft ie: planes, heli's etc. I guess I am "old school" and personally emphasize a "hands on" style of application. Now my point, for an example, before the demise of RCM, this particular publication had a good mix of hands on construction. Granted a different time period must be considered also while this publication existed. How bout' a publication, whether, in print or electronic that PRIMARILY emphasizes building from kits, plan, and scratch building. This idea may be covered elsewhere within the realm of "hobbydem" but I've not found it at this time.
