RE: YS 160 runs too hot in Genesis
I had the same problem with a VF3. I had too much inlet!!! Not in the right place. I know that sounds counterintuitive but let me try to explain. It looks to me like you have 2 inlets on the side of your spinner. Block them off and give it a fly. You may be exhausting warm air and not getting rid of the heat. When I covered the side holes in the cowl, all overheating problems were solved. You need to have as much of your inlet air going over the head as possible Try putting tape over any inlet that isn't going over the head and fly it! I love a simple fix!!! This worked for me and I hope it will work for you... Let us know. RC

Todd, 18.1x10 is the prop. This is the most widely used prop I see used on IC engines in pattern. When I get the engine I have a bunch of pattern props to get the numbers on. Rick

RE: Glow Lighter's
I had the Radio South and had to replace the batteries with less than 1 season use. Next season the IC booard fried. I should have looked at the warranty which I believe is 2 years but I just didn't want to hassle with it any more. I see the Radio South around alot but I like the RCATS much better. I did have to replace the end on it though. They use a Dubro end and I purchased a magnum which has far better qualityThey say you only need to charge it once a season. I have gone a month of flying and it still lit the plug no problem. I did purchase the boot which is a rubber cover that offers a little protection. ........ At the field a couple of weeks back I fired up as normal with my buddy John Slavic on the tail holding the plane. All was well and I unhooked the igniter from my OS160. John picked up the tail alittle not realizing the RCATS was so close and hit it with the idleing 160. It hit hard enough to stall the motor and the RCATS flew 15' before hitting the ground. I thought oh@#$%%^& now I will need a new one. Not the case! the rubber case had a divit removed but was otherwise fine and has been working fine ever since. They do offer one with the delay. RCATS with a magnum end and go fly.... Just my opinion... RC

Todd, The pattern people are still waiting for a viable option to the expensive 4strokes with $30 a gallon fuel. Someone needs to give some info on pattern props please. The benchmark prop would probably be the 18.1x10 APC.Big 2 stroke glow motors have a less than desireable throttle curve. How does your offering stack up? RC

As I said 10/17 is my daughter Bethany's birthday and that day always seems to have the best weather, but not this year. I hope Santa is good to you all and brings lot of toys this year. Anything I can do to help introduce you to Pattern, please let me know. Come on out and give it a try. See you in the spring!!! Thanks, Rick

Well said. How many of us buy high torque servos and then use 25% of their available travel. Your high torque expensive servo just lost its power and resolution. Use all your servco travel and gain all the mechanical advantage you can. RC

RE: Pincher or Thumber
I think it is safe to gleen from this thread that to thumb or pinch is just what you like and feel comfortable with. Expo is a good thing for most expanding neutrals ie. less accidental elevator with aileron input. What ever makes your flying smoother. I will try no expo again so as to let my mistakes show so I have to learn to fix them. Then I may go to a little to smooth out my flying. Again I don't want to cover my mistakes, I want to learn how not to make them. RC

Addendum...... If you learn to cover your mistakes you don't learn to fix them. I'm going to give no expo a try again to show my mistakes so can try to fix them. This is as always only my rookie opinion. RC

RE: Pincher or Thumber
In my humble opinion... The weakest link is always the (loose nut behind the sticks)the flyer, especially with todays radios.I know some of the best flyers in the world that use little to no expo both thumbers and pinchers. Arch Stafford, perennial top end finisher in masters uses very little to no expo and convinced my son early on not to use it. It can be somewhat of a crutch in my opinion but I need every cruth I can find. I've flown my son's planes with no expo and it only exagerrates every rookie mistake I make. Arch uses the approach if you need to smooth things out lessen you control surface throws. Maybe good for new dogs like my son but I'm and old dog. Different strokes for different strokes>>>>> RC
