RE: Horizon Hobby could not help me with Saito trouble, what do I do?
Sorry to hear of your issues. I have an FG-36, that I haven't started yet. BUT!! I have a buddy who is an engine guy. He keeps all of the stock FG series running, PLUS has converted all of his normal glow Saito's to gas. He might be able to help you. He is an Engineer and engine tinker guy. His name is Andy @ rv8pilot@bellsouth.net Good Luck!

RE: Skygate/CARF Viperjet
Ricardo! I like how you did the 8711 on the elevators. Question though. Why are you still using the plastic servo arm, instead of aluminum? I have had the plastic splines fail on the gear of the servo, and always use aluminum arms on jets or the larger gas planes. You are using the proper servo, but then your weak spot becomes the plastic arm? Just my humble opinion?

RE: Skygate/CARF Viperjet
Just took delivery of my new Viper in Fantasy. I love Behotec retracts and after having the C36 in the Flash, I would like to use them again, but the heavier version. I have read that the ER50 haven't worked, due to depth. Have any of you used the Behotec C50F low profile gear? I guess the Nose gear would be turned around, but haven't asked Peter yet. New C50F Retract Low Profile set for models up to 55 lbs with a new forward retracting Nose unit with optional servo steering adapter kit The C50-F was developed for models with very thin wing profile, e.g. (viper, Airmachi etc.) it is an air up air down system. The design is extremely robust and is intended for models up to 25 kg (55lbs). The large piston, with 20 mm inside diameter, allows for the use of large struts. The retract body is a 1 piece milled to ensure extreme strength and rigidity. The adapter hole in the trunion can acomodate 8,10,12.70mm adapter pins The struts lock in both up and own positions and offers a retraction angle of 90°. The nose gear trunion can also hold the optional servo steering adapter kit

RE: Share Your Thoughts....
Good Morning Todd and Staff! First, I want to say that your service is exceptional, and everything that I have ordered from you, has always been right, fast, and well packaged. Let "Joe Blow" go. You can't please everyone all of the time, no matter how hard you try in any business. This is also one of the pit falls of ordering everything off of the Internet now. Used to be, you took your "unusal project" to the local hobby shop to see if the staff could help you come up with a solution. I haven't been in a hobby shop for over 2.5 years, due to the local hobby shops don't meet my needs, but order from you, Dreamworks, Comp-ARF, DA, EVo Engines, BVM, etc, where I can't just go to the store front. 5% is more then fair, and 15% is even very fair, and I would have no issue paying that fee, especially, if I have removed the item, installed it into my "unusual project". I have worked in a hobby shop, and some of the stuff was sent back to the Distributor when it is defective, guess this item couldn't be sent back?, other stuff, we resold, which I didn't sometimes agree with the owner. What I don't want to be, is the guy who buys the product next that has been returned and techniqually used. If I have something that I have bought, it didn't work, and I ruined the packaging, made it not look new, then it goes on RCU or the Bay. This is just my humble opinion. Dan

RE: BEST 50cc CHINA ENGINE RIGHT NOW??
There aren't any IMHO.....Zenoah is the best from over there, but it is Japanese, then OS 55 gas, but again, Japanese, Saito FG-36, but again, Japanese.....and DA from the USA. Otherwise, you get what you pay for Chinese junk. My DA's have more then 5 years and more then a few hundred flights.....no issues, no rebuilds.

RE: Viper 2m Bites the Dust
Wow! Sorry for your loss! This is why in full scale jets we have checklist to do by memory, then followed up by paper checklist. If someone is bothering me, while assemblying my planes/jets, I tell them I am busy and come back or stop what I am doing and wait until they are done asking questions.

RE: Whats up with the JR obsession in RC Jets?
ORIGINAL: ddlstang I honestly don't know how the hell you guys find all the switches and stuff for afterburner rings, chutes, lights, etc etc etc. I've simplified in my jets, and man, they are much less stress that way! I still only have the normal amount of fingers and thumbs, have you guys learned how to grow more appendages?
Jeremy, I noticed a lot of guys holding their transmitters low, below their waist. Maybe there is a reason for this ? [:-]
My set up comes down to gear, flaps, rates, brakes to operate either jet. That is 3 switches, and one slider.
ORIGINAL: stoneenforcer just ordered the JR 11x for my jets. :-))))
If you use the slide for the brake on the right side, I think the 11X is on the back. Not sure if that is comfortable....ask others who have the 11X and their brakes on the slider.

RE: Whats up with the JR obsession in RC Jets?
On my F-18: 1. Throttle 2. aileron 3. aileron 4. elevator 5. retracts and gear door sequencer 6. elevator 7. flap 8. flap 9. Dual Rudders matched with JR Matchbox 10. nose gear steering 11. wheel brake and airbrake 12. nose gear JR gyro gain adjustment My Flash is less complicated. The more channels you have, the easier it is to fine tune adjustments.

RE: Whats up with the JR obsession in RC Jets?
I have used all three products, but have currently use JR 12X for the past 5 or so years. As the only CD Turbine Instructor on my field, when anyone up grades to a jet, in order to buddy box them, the student then has to match the Instructor's transmitter. Since I am using JR, then my students, if not already using JR, have to buy a JR transmitter to make things easier. In the training jets, most use what is the cheapest, yet digital, so that if it goes into the ground, not a significant loss, but fortunately, I haven't lost one during training yet. One of my students had a high end FUT transmitter that he had just bought for the jets, but sold it, traded it in, inorder to be on the buddy box with the instructor at the field that he respects. There are other jet pilots at the feild using FUT, but that student didn't trust that jet pilot as an instructor, so, he switched to JR. Just makes things easier for teaching. Even though these students did their initial jet training on a trainer jet, I will still buddy box them on their newest creation, if I am asked, which I am often. So, IMHO.....it has to do with teaching, and what your training Instructor is using at the time. Plus, from my point of view, I just like the programming options, reliability of the product, although I do hate the original 12X tranmitter battery and now using straight lipo with no issues.

RE: LiFe or Lipo with regulator??
I use on my 44% Giles, 33% Extra, Turbine F-18, and Flash, I use the same set up on all of my planes, and have been using this set up for the past 5 years with at least 500 flights on the combined planes with no issues!! . The system just works, and has never given me any problems. I like the Dual 7.4 Lipos into Fromco Wolverine dual switch, then to dual Sahara regulators and then to the receiver. There is never a power spike to the low side this way and always constant power. I don't feel this power security with strictly a battery of any kind to the receiver. I have had the 6.6 LiFe and didn't like them. Also, something to think about is that the miliamp draw of 1000ma off of a regulated lipo, isn't the same as 1000ma from a Life.......IMHO. There is more power from the same milliamp lipo, then an equal milliamp Life. I have had a spike to the 3.5 V on a smaller plane (of course, lost the plane) just using a straight battery to reciever, and now go over board. I do not like the Spektrum regulators with the fans, especially in the gas planes. Too much vibration and the fans fail.

I just have the Classic Flash, and LOVE it!! I had a P-120sx, but just up graded to an EVo160vx, and much happier with the engine and the jet. This is at Cape Coral's Gathering of the Giants 2012 just last weekend. Go for a ride...you will see a Cuban 8, Blender's, Inverted Flat spins, Knife edge, and other manuvers. Hope you enjoy! RE: ULTRA FLASH AND TAMS PIPE
Hey Guys! I have the classic Flash and using the standard pipe. I had P-120sx with 150+ flights in it, and have just converted to an Evo160vx. Only have one flight with the new engine, but love it. I do use the full by-pass, and hear from other's that they don't use it. Pain to assemble, but just like it better. Not sure of my total take off weight.

RE: Should I Quit
I teach a lot of older Gentlemen at my Club......we are located in Florida...lol. As one person said earlier, as long as you are still having fun, and it isn't a budget thing, keep going. I would also like to strongly suggest that you have your eyes checked, if you haven't in the past year. I had one student that had been around planes all of his life, had his private license, was a builder (not an ARF assembler), and could fix his mistakes. I watched his health deteriorate over the years from when I met him when he was 73, and I was willing to help him on the buddy box. This went on for 3+ years, and I just thought that he would stay on it for the rest of his life. He would solo, total an airplane, then come back to the buddy box. Then, He had his eyes checked and had cateracts in both eyes. Fixed his eyes, I soloed him in three flights and he never came back on the buddy box at 77. I would give him help with a new plane, but that was it. He has now stopped flying just this past year at 81 due to arthritis in his legs, etc. So, get those eyes checked!! Very important in this hobby. If you can't see it, you can't control it!!

RE: What kind of Fire Extinguisher do I want?
You also have to make sure there is a water extinquisher at the field that you fly. One field that I fly at, as a jet pilot, I am required to have one. The other field provides one. CO2 though for the jet.
