RE: fly baby
If anyone is building or has built the 1/4 scale Walt Moucha flybaby, some build pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much Gary

RE: Seagull Spacewalker II 120 Arf
Mine is holding up just fine. No issues at all. I have a Zenoah G26 and for me it seems like the perfect motor. The cowl takes a little work making room for the muffler and carb, but it fly's great. I prefer gas to glow when possible, but I think the OS 1.60 would be a good motor for this plane as well. Good luck and Happy Landings This is a fun plane and gets lots of attention at the field!

RE: Seagull Spacewalker II 120 Arf
Funny, I felt the same way about the pushrods, but I decided to leave them as they came. They are fine. Based on my first few flights, I will leave them as is. I had no issues whatsoever. I set the CG exactly where they suggested. The plane balanced great in that position. Perfect take off and easy landing!

RE: Seagull Spacewalker II 120 Arf
Looks like I have discovered the only flaw ..... The covering job could be a lot better. But that seems to always be the case with almost any ARF. You will really like this plane. Happy Landings!

I would have to agree. The weather here is great for flying pretty much all year long. You guys will really like your 1.20 size spacewalker. It is a relaxing, fun plane to fly. Good luck with your maiden flights when weather permits. RCGARY.

RE: Seagull Spacewalker II 120 Arf
I maidened my Spacewalker the other day and considering that this is a new product for Seagull, I thought I would share the experience. I used a Zenoah G26 magnito motor. I posted a few pics of the motor installation earlier on this thread. I did angle the motor just a little bit to the right. Just a few degrees is plenty. I used a few washers on the left side to do this. I did not put in any additional down thrust. The maiden flight was great. The plane took very little trim. It did take some up elevator trim, but not enough to worry about. Just a few clicks did the trick. The plane could not be any more gentle, etc. A real "floater". The CG is perfect per the instructions. I did put some more throw in the controls than the instructions called for. This is just a personal flying decision based on experience. The plane took very little expo and presented no issues at all. I had good luck using some rudder along with the ailerons in the turns but I was able to turn with ailerons only as well. I found no bad flying habits whatsoever. The G-26 was a good motor choice. More than enough power. The plane flys really well. I would agree that this plane does fly like a big trainer. Absolutly no problems on takeoff. Rolls straight, gets up on the main wheels very quickly, and takeoff presented no issues. Landing is even easier! Just cut the power and let it float in. Once on the ground I found that leaving the elevator in the neutral postion until the tail wheel settles down is the best way to go. If you give it any up elevator, it will try to take off again. Those big wings create a lot of lift, so just let it slow down and it is fine. The plane took about 4 oz. of tail weight which was not much considering the motor I used. I set the battery back as far as possible as well. Hope this helps. I am very happy with this plane and the motor choice. I think Seagull did a fantastic job. Well, enjoy and Happy Landings!

RE: Seagull Spacewalker II 120 Arf
Cloudwalker, it looks like the firewall is already fuel proofed. Also, I think it is fine without a wing tube. The sides of the fuse are reinforced and the tube extends very deep into the wings. As far as balance, I suspect any gas motor will require a bunch of tail weight. Just put the battery as far back as possible, and keep adding weight to the tail until it balances out. CG is 11CM behind the leading edge at the wing tips. Good luck. Very nice plane! Merry Christmas.

RE: Seagull Spacewalker II 120 Arf
No problem. I'll send some pics today. I have not flown it yet. Hopefully I will have a chance soon and I can let you know how it goes. As far as the CG, it is going to take a lot of tail weight. I am using a very light spinner and a wood prop to keep the nose weight down, but I think it will take about 10z or so in the tail to get it balanced.

RE: Seagull Spacewalker II 120 Arf
I just finished putting mine together. Hope to maiden it next week. One of the benefits of living in California I guess. I was able to stuff a Zenoah G-26 up front. You have to cut out the cowl for the carb and the muffler. I was hoping a Bison muffler would fit under the cowl but no luck. I used the stock muffler. One good thing is the black muffler takes the place of the plastic fake motor they provide. So if you want to use the G-26, if does fit but it takes some effort. I think this is a very good model. They did a nice job on this one.

RE: J-3 Cub & heading hold gyro= good take off?
I was reading the forum on gyro's with great interest. I have a monocoupe that has a severe ground loop. I have been flying for about 9 years so I have some experience. I tried toe in on the gear, and experimented with different rudder throws, expo, etc. etc. Nothing seemed to work. I put a Futaba 401 gyro on the plane hoping it would solve the problem. I use a Futaba 9c transmitter on 2.4ghz. I installed the gyro on the top of the fuse. The gyro goes between the rx and the rudder servo, with the one wire lead in channel 5. I turned the delay on the gyro below 50% and set the throw to 100%. I programmed the transmitter to have 100% throw when the gear switch (ch 5) is activated and 0% when I want to turn the gyro off in flight. It works extremely well. I tested it today for the first time. The plane tracks right down the runway with zero rudder input from me. I flip the switch after takeoff, or after the first turn, and it fly's like ususal. I tried a few laps with the gyro ON and it makes wider turns, but is very stable in flight. I think I will fly with the gyro OFF unless I encounter some very stiff winds. Anyway, thought you might want to know it works very well.

RE: Zenoah G26 Question
So I am reading this thread with great interest. I got a new Zenoah G26 last week and I have spent three days trying to get it to run at mid to high throttle with no luck. It seems to lean out and then stop. I have adjusted the high speed idle in 1/8th turns from as little as one turn out to as much as 4 turns out with no result or change at all. Throttle is fine. Fuel tanks and lines are fine. Idle is good, but like yours, nothing at the mid to top end. I am sending mine in for service. I'm stumped.

RE: Funtana 90 w/Evolution 26GT 1.6 gasser
Just wanted to thank everyone for the help with my Funtana/Evo26 combination. I maidened the plane this past weekend and it could not have been better. The plane took ONE click of elevator adjustment and about 1/8th turn on the idle adjustment. That was it. The plane did everything I was hoping it would do and more. Anyway, thanks again to all for the advice and help via email. It helped a lot. Gary.

RE: engine for Funtana 100X
Thanks for confirming the starting procedure. Sounds pretty straighforward. I sure wish EVo would have left the choke arrangement the way MVVS had it. But this should work fine. Thanks to all for the help. Hope to maiden next week!!!

RE: engine for Funtana 100X
Wanted to thank everyone for the help so far. I am putting an EVo26 in my Funtana 100. Now that the plane is coming together I have a question about the choke setup. On my MVVS, the choke can be closed and stay closed. You flip the prob, it burps, then you release the choke and it starts. Witht the EVo, the choke is on a spring, and you have to HOLD IT CLOSED. The book says you turn the ignition OFF, hold the choke closed, turn the prop by hand (not flip, but slowly turn) until gas gets in the carb. Then you turn on the igntion and start it up. Is this correct????? I know one person put the choke on a servo, but does anyone have experience with the procedure above???? I asked Horizon about it and they were not able to help. Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Funtana 90 w/Evolution 26GT 1.6 gasser
Katana-Mini-Freak.....sent you and email with many thanks for the pics and one more question for you. Question is, I will be using a Pitts style muffler and wanted to mount the motor inverted. Evo makes a very light and small Pitts for this application so I know the motor will run inverted. In fact, I have an MVVS mounted inverted in a Pitts Bipe. Will I run up against some mounting, throttle, or other issues mounting it this way????? Again thanks a million for the pics. Exactly what I needed to see. My stuff arrives today, so I will be hard at it this weekend. Gary.

RE: engine for Funtana 100X
Does anyone out there have any experience putting a small gas motor in a Funtana 100? I want to put an Evolution 26 in one. I have had several Funtana 100's with Saito 1.25's. They fly great, but I am bored with glow and want to try something different. Anyone actually try a gas motor yet? I would be very interested in your input. Thanks.

RE: Hanger 9 P-47 recomended retact servo problem
For you guys struggling with the the retract servo burning up, I BEEN THERE!!! A few things I have learned with the mechanical retracts are: 1. Use a round servo arm vs. a straight one. Seems to work a lot more smoothly and seems stronger. 2. Make sure the slip collars are loose and can turn easily. This will avoid binding of the rods. 3. Make sure the servo tray is secure, and not split or broken. Any movement of the servo in the tray will cause binding. Mine seem to be working Ok after a lot of adjusting. I really want to go to some air units, but I am trying to find the right ones. Anyway, I am no expert, believe me....I have burned up a few servos trying to get the mechanical ones to work...But hopefully this helps. Happy Landings!

I have been using a 5 cell battery with an Airtronics 94924. Seems to work Ok, but I really want to replace the standard mechanical retracts with some air units. Are you aware of anything from Robart, Spring Air, etc. that is meant to plug and play with this plane? Thanks! Gary.

PERFECT! Thanks. That looks good! By the way, where do you get struts like that? Do you cut off the old ones and put those on with set screws???? If you can tell me what the model number is and where to get them, the only thing left is for you to build the plane for me and fly it!!!! [:)] THanks again. Gary.

RE: H9 60 Size P-47 Thunderbolt-Build & Flying
Hey guys, I just got the Hanger 9 P-47 60 ARF. I have a Saito 1.25 mounted in it and I am nearing completion. CAN ANYONE SEND ME A PICTURE OF HOW YOU PLACED THE EXHAUST for this kind of motor? Saito 1.00 should be the same way if you have one of those. I was curious if you routed the exhaust directly under the plane or off to the side, and how you cut your cowl. I would really appreciate the help. Thanks very much!!!! Gary.

RE: GSP Giles 202
Well, you must be an easy person to please. If the maiden flight you described put a smile on your face, I have some old planes I would love to sell you. But if you like flying the plane 10 feet off the ground and then giving your transmitter to your buddy to save the plane, again, you are an easy guy to please. I understand you CAN break in the motor in the air. What I was suggesting is that if you break the motor in and tune it properly BEFORE your maiden flight, it might make sense. In any case, I was trying to offer some help to you since I have had this plane for some time now. Sounds like you are an expert already.
