RE: Top Flite B-25 ARF (Tecnical, tips, suggestions)
Seamus OLeprosy, Hi, I had gone the cheapest rout also when it came down to engine sellection. Currently I have two OS AX .46 2S engines with power box mufflers turning two APC 11X8 props. At full power my engines are turning at 10500 rpm which provides plenty of power to take off from my grass field. After take off and my first turn heading down wind, my gear has been retracted then flaps brought up, I can fly at 2/3rds to 1/2 throttle and stay airborn for ten minutes. After landing I have enough fuel for an additional two minutes of flight if I over shoot or need to go around for another landing attempt. As for the throttle servo's, they are located on different sides of the nacelle, just try to rout them as strait as possible or if you can engineer a new servo mount which will short'n your servo arm run. Good luck with your build

RE: The RCFW Hellcat Group Build
Hey firepower, The racks I have on my Corsair weren't damaged in any way. Chad I would love one of your Hellcat kits, that's if you're still cutting them. I would shelve my H-9 Hellcat, strip everything from it and put it's gear into your kit. I have a set of Sierra retracts to include a Saito 1.08 4S engine, a spektrum 2.4 Ghz system and all Futaba servo's. By the way Chad, from the short videos posted, your Hellcat looked great in the air, just goes to show what a great design and build you have accomplished.

RE: The RCFW Hellcat Group Build
Yes, I had maidened her just before fall last year; half way through my flight I had decided to bring her in but when I throttled down my engine died. I missed the field by about 2 feet and ended up in some tall grass, she flipped 180, snapped the tail at the base (repaired) and tweeked one elevator (repaired), the gear needs new cams from Seirra; I don't have the funds to aquire them right now. Weather wise it's been very nice but no time to get her out and flown again, I've had other issues to deal with between my house and vehicles. I didn't have a chance to hold onto my tax return before it all went bye bye. By the way, I have been watching your progress on the Hellcat, you have done an excellent job and the second cat is turning out as good as the first. Are you still having geomatry issues with the flaps? Instead of installing a second sero, what about a bell crank linked directly to the servo to actuate the outer flaps? Just a thought...

Wil, You have the correct ribs accounted for now you need the small rail doubler and the other as it is called for in step ten of the instructions. You are looking for R-4B and R-5B located within your diecut 1/8 inch light ply, all four pieces are short and will cover only the forward section of R-4 and R-5. Wil, after reviewing the manual you should be looking for a diecut part set with CRS6W08 X2 stamped on it, that plate has your needed parts to glue to R-4 and 5.

RE: TFGE F4U Corsair 60 Kit Build
Wil, This is what I did when glassing my bird; I used .5 ounce glass and the west system epoxy. When I started glassing it was the tail group first, verticle and horizontal surfaces only, I used a very small amount of epoxy, carefully spreading it evanly but very thinly across the balsa. I let the epoxy sit and soak into the balsa for a few minutes then taking my precut glass cloth I covered one side ensuring to cover most of the leading edge. The glass needs to soak up the remaining epoxy, if there is to much epoxy your glass will start to float an then creates epoxy bubbles in the glass. The only way to remove excess epoxy is to take a scraper and scrape off as much as possible then let dry for 24 hour's. Check your work after 8 hour's to ensure everything is going as planned, check for dry spots in the glass, which will look white, use very small amounts of epoxy on those affected areas and scrape off the excess. Once your resign starts to cure it will have a rubbery feel and will be tacky to the touch this is a good time to trim off your excess glass. Hope this helps and by the way I retired in 03 and was an AME the entire time I was on active duty.

Wil, If you are thinking about a gas motor 15 and 20 cc RC motor's are out on the market, check this out, http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=15380 a 15 or 20 cc motor will fit into the cowl of a 60 corsair. I believe Lado retracts has gone out of business, you might want to look at Robarts website they are coming out with electrics also wingspan retracts and there is another site that deals with electric retracts but I don't remember their name. When working your flaps make sure you follow the directions to a tee and ask plenty of questions if you get stuck or confused. If you haven't ever used glass then I would recommend that you practice on a plane that's not going to fly. For this project .5 ounce glass shall be used and you can use any epoxy system that you desire, there's plenty to pick and choose from. I use the West system because I can buy it locally and has multiple applications other than RC. Well there was a site dedicated to RC bombs, drop tanks and release systems but their website is down pending renewal or cancelation, but wingspan models does sell bomb release systyems, check them out. You might want to check out tower hobbies and horizon hobby's websites you might be able to find other items of interest for your build.

RE: TFGE F4U Corsair 60 Kit Build
Wil, First of all thanks for joining this build thread I always encourage anyone who wants and has a desire to share their build to post on this thread and yes there quite a few builders who will provide great information. As for your question about your rudder the doubler step #6 is talking about is adding extra basswood or light ply to add strength to the lower right and left side corners of the rudder. The rudder torque rod comes up from inside the fuselage a 90 degree bend is made in the rod at yopur desired location where you want the rod to enter the rudder. Please review the rolled plans around the tail section and it should give you where your torque rod will come out. On another note, Wil, you can post a comment and a picture at the same time here is how you can go about it step by step; 1. Select reply on any comment 2. write your comment 3. If posting pictures select "Click here to upload images and files" 4. A popup window will appear, select the first browse button and select from which file you want to put load a picture from. 5. When you have added all your pictures select OK and wait for the system to tell you all pistures have been uploaded. 6. Once your pictures are loaded and you are happy with the write up just select OK at the bottom and your comment and pictures show up on the same post. 7. I've loaded my ugly mug As for pictures I would recommend resizing all pictures to 640x480 before posting to RCU. Hey Wil, feel free to ask any and all questions you may have concerning your build.

RE: Top Flite B-25 ARF (Tecnical, tips, suggestions)
JBoyd58, I had to put in two clicks down upon my first flight and had to add six clicks of right aileron. Well I added 4 ounces of lead in the right wing and that helped but still needed four clicks of right aileron. I did program my full flaps with down trim on my elevators and mixed in 75 down on my mix, I also added more flap travel since the TF B-25 does come in a little hot when flying at around 22 pounds. Good luck on your maiden.

SR, Very nice B-17, what other neet little gadgets are you going to put into her. As for your B-25, Normand first posted about his problem and loose wings. What Normand found out and it occured over time, the wing rod tubes going through the main fuse were e-longgating causing slop in the wing tube. Over one winter he broke his B-25 down and very carefully cut out the fiber glass tubes and replaced all the hard wood and reglued the fiberglass tube back into the airframe. If the outer wing panels are having the same problem, major surgery is called for to fix them to include the inner wing panels. Just my two cents, hope every body has had a Happy New year, in Southern Maryland it feels like spring instead of winter, we had snow yesterday but was to warm for it to stick.

RE: Top Flite B-25 ARF (Tecnical, tips, suggestions)
Gents, As to the size of your pictures being posted, mustangfever you are right RCU has a size limit when using their upload feature. I would recommend you resize each digital picture down to 680 X 480 and then attempt repost said picture, I have had great success with that process and I have been posting for a few years. All that one needs is a basic photo processing program to resize any digital picture, there are plenty of free photo processing programs on the web, my personal program is windows photo gallery live, but I also know each person has their own tastes and your computer has a different OS then mine. In a nut shell just resize your pics and you shouldn't have a problem uploading them to RCU, just my 2 cents.

RE: TFGE F4U Corsair 60 Kit Build
Everett, Firepower is correct a small s-81 would have been fine to actuate a robarts air control valve. With that being said, a standard servo will still work and you can use a 4-40 wire with a threaded end and clevis, run a strait wire with a stop on one end of the wire with another stop on the wire. Your control arm will have another push rod stop without the set screw thus allowing the stop to run through the wire to engage each other stop and push the wire and actuate your aircontrol valve.

dusel1, Hey Everett, all you need to do is get into your radio and set the servos travel, that's if you have one of the newer radios. I have a DX7 and I can limit the travel of each individual servo from 0% to 130% any other questions please feel free to ask. By the way check with your radios owners manuel to see how to adjust servo travel.

RE: 1/8 scale TopFlite Corsair Mods
scratchbuilder46, The actual Corsair had a wing incidence of + 2.5 degrees and the tail had a + 1.5 degrees. As for my CG; I initialy started at the recommended 4 1/4" and had to add 9 1/2 ounces of lead so I moved it back the recommended 5/16" to 4 9/16". I re CG'd my bird and she only needed 2 ounces of lead in the nose. When I flew her for the very first time she flew exstreamly well at 4 9/16" from the LE, I also have an OS 1.2 in the nose.

RE: TFGE F4U Corsair 60 Kit Build
dusel1, Hi, what I had done was to use a standard pull pull system with two push rod clevas and 4/40 extended brass coupling which had a small hole drilled into the brass to allow the cable through, then clamped with a small brass tube. I used some small flexable tube cut into small sections placing them into each former, since the flex tube was small enough for the cable to run through as a cable guide. The double sided control arm I used along with a futaba 3004 servo; I attached the pull pull systen to the second hole where the control cable for my rudder went into hole number 4. Here are some pics and ask as many questions you want

RE: TFGE F4U Corsair 60 Kit Build
Hi asafh1, As to your question, yes there is suppose to be a gap. The stab base support has to be flat on the building board then glue'd to F9 and F10 to include the side formers. To achieve you will need to trim F9 and F10 until you have each support flat. F10 will have a gap, that's for the elevator control linkage and push rod. The center stringers will be cut off flush with F10 later in the build, If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

RE: TFGE F4U Corsair 60 Kit Build
O.K. Gents after getting this bird done last November and working out a few kinks; I flew my Corsair last Saturday. She flew like she was on rails, that OS 1.2 with a MAS 3 bladed 14.6 prop was making her scream. Chad if you are still reading this thread your tail feathers were awesome, had great control with no bad reactions in the rudder or elevator. A friend of mine did shoot some video of my corsair I'm waiting on him to post it onto youtube so I can post the link. I did run into some bad luck at the end of the flight, when I selected my gear switch down my engine quit on me, of no a dead stick, well I brought the bird around to a short final but over shot the turn; I was over the left side field looking at my bird from the right. and tried to goose her onto the field but she lost too much airspeed & altitude and went into the short grass landed on its gear and flipped 180. I'm also happy to report my retracts system work flawlessly to include my gear doors, not a single door got ripped off, two thumbs up. From now on I'm going to lower my gear atleast one full cuircut before attempting to land. With my gear being sequenced, it takes a good 10 seconds from selecting gear down to the gear actually going down and locking down. Damage report 1. Verticle stab snapped off at the base with no other damage, verticle stab is now repaired, just need to apply new fiberglass and repaint. 2. Right elevator was tweeked, the left and right were off set from each other, so I cut into the right elevator re-tweeked the rod and packed the elevator and rod with 30 min epoxy and let dry. Need to sand and touch up paint 3. Landing gear, right main twisted 90 degree's, have sent e-mail to Darrell at Sierra giant scale to find out the cost for a set of front plates with grooves for my retracts.
