RE: Disclosure?
Well, apparently there are some here that either felt they were above following my advice, didn't understand my advice, or think the can do any thing they please. Whatever it was, this is over. I stated earlier the the original question had been asked and the answer was given, and after that I would have a very short leash on this thread. Some felt that they could ignore my advice and decided to continue to try to stir up trouble and attack others here. That is totally unacceptable. I have removed ALL of the posts that we out of line and I am closing this thread. Now, before I get the complaints about closing this thread down, I'll just remind you that I warned I would have a short leash here on this thread and would close it if the crap continued. Since some here decided to ignore my advice, this thread is finished. Thread locked Ken

RE: Disclosure?
ORIGINAL: siclick33
RCU's rules are very clear in this matter. Our rules state the following: quote: USERNAMES & DISCLOSURE: Only one username or account is necessary at RCU, all others will be removed. If you create a second username to act as a shill or in attempt to bypass a management ban, you will be at risk of permanent removal from RCU. A shill is defined by but not limited to the act of promoting products for vendors, products or the like, and the act of hiding behind anonymity to abuse normal membership policies and etiquette. If you are a manufacturer, vendor, sponsored representative, retailer or the like for an r/c related company or product you must specifically identify yourself and the particular affiliation in your signature. Any member affiliated with a company not identifying themselves as such is at risk of revocation from RCU. This is identified, but not limited to a member who gains anything financially whether in cash, product, discount or the like. Web addresses may not be used as usernames. Anybody that is affiliated in any way with a commercial company that is in the RC industry MUST disclose this affilation in their signature line. There is no "wiggle room" in this rule. While we do not care what a person receives from the company, we do care that they are receiving it. This rule is in place for one very good reason. When members are interacting with each other on our forum we want them to know that the person they are talking to is affiliated with a company. While this may not always be something important, there are many times where it is vital to know that a person posting has ties to a company. For instance, if a member is posting that a product is really good and people should buy it, it's important to know that the person making those claims has ties to the company making said product. RCU takes this rule very seriously and we will enforce it whenever it comes up. This matter is not one for discussion as the rule is in place and is not going to be changed any time soon. It's already been shown to me that the members here are having difficulty discussing this matter in a civil and mature manner, and since the question has been asked and answered already my initial thoughts are to lock down this thread. However, I am going to give this thread the benefit of the doubt and give the members here one chance at keeping this thread open. However, please know this, that the next time I see ANYBODY stepping out of line in this discussion I am going to shut it down. Period. So it's pretty easy guys, keep the discussion on a civil and mature level, or I'm going to close the thread. The choice is entirely up to you all as to where we go from here, but please know that I won't hesitate to take actions. Ken
Ken, I reported someone recently who is a shill and hasn't disclosed their affiliation in their signature line. I received no response to my report and that person is still posting 'anonymously'. My experience is that the mods (at least some of them) don't enforce this rule as diligently as you suggest that they should.
Unfortunately our Moderators do the job on a volunteer basis, so we only ask that they deal with things like this as they can. And unfotunately sometimes things do slip through the cracks. If you feel there is an issue that needs taken care of you should report it as you did. If after reporting it action is not taken within a reasonable amount of time you can send me a PM directly and I will look at the situation. In a perfect world things would be taken care of every time, but in the real world sometimes things slip through. But if you send them to me I will look at the situation and take any appropriate actions. Ken

RE: Disclosure?
ORIGINAL: PhilYabelli Thank you for the clarity. Maybe you can do something about Shawn Evans from Yellow Aircraft Company? If you look at his posts in general, on this thread and others, there is a very clear pattern of problems, attacking, insulting, participating heavily in threads about other manufactuers...maybe you can look into it. In the meanwhile, back to subject... What if there are indeed reps who did not reveal themselves? Are there consequences?
Yes, there are consequences. What they will vary depending on the situation. But we deal with those on a case by case basis. Ken

***What happened to threads in this forum? ***
Many people follow Aeroworks and spend a lot of time here in their support forum, and many are probably noticing that all the threads in this forum are now missing. But don't worry, there is a very good reason why those threads are no longer showing here in this Aeroworks Support Forum listing. And that reason is in fact very good news for RCU, Aeroworks, and their customers. Aeroworks now has a full Vendor Forum here on RCU. Some may wonder what the difference between a Support forum (like this one) is and a Vendor Forum (like the new one). The difference is this. In a support forum the topics of discussion are limited to those seeking support from Aeroworks on their products, but general discussions of Aeroworks and their products is usually discouraged. However, in the new Aeroworks Vendor Forum anything concerning Aeroworks, their products, their company, their people, their pilots, their events, etc.... can be discussed. I sure you are starting to get the idea that the new Aeroworks Vendor Forum is a very good thing for Aeroworks and their customers. So, now you've got to be wondering where you can find this new Aeroworks Vendor Forum. It's easy enough to find as it will be listed directly under RC Airplanes in the RCU Forums listings. Or you can simply follow the link below. Aeroworks Vendor Forum We hope you enjoy the new forum. Ken

RE: My Maiden Flight: FEJ Viper M
Ok guys, let's keep in mind here what this thread is about. I have corrected the issue with their employee's signature line and have taken steps to make sure that it stays fixed this time. RCU is very serious about our rules concerning members with commercial affiliation disclosing this in their signature line. We have this rule in place for exactly this very reason, so that when somebody posts everybody will know they are affiliated with a company in the RC Hobby. So why am I here posting this now?? Because I want all of our members to know that RCU takes this matter very seriously, but also I want companies in this hobby to know that we take this rule very seriously as well. Ken

Ok gentlemen, this is getting WAY out of control. If you can't discuss this issue without attacking those that you don't agree with then I would suggest you don't enter into the discussion. Because if this bickering and attacks on each other continue I'll hand out some administrative actions on those that can't get along. The choice is entirely up to you on how we proceed from here. Ken

RE: My Maiden Flight: FEJ Viper M
Ok guys, time for me to step in here. Let's keep the discussion on the topic. I understand that this may be a bit of a touchy subject considering recent events in the hobby. However, there are no rules being broken by this video being posted here. The only issue at hand was the member posting the video did not identify himself as an employee of Fly Eagle Jets, and I have corrected that. Otherwise the video can be posted under the rules that allow for product announcements from a company that does not advertise with RCU. I have gone through this thread and cleaned a bunch of off topic posts in the thread. I understand that many of you may feel frustrated, but there are no rules being broken here and this video is allowed. Let's keep the posts in this thread on the topic of the plane in the video and the video itself. Other off topic posts will be removed. Ken

RE: Thoughts and Prayers for Tornado Victims Moore
I totally agree with you on this one. Moore, Oklahoma is only about 80 miles from where I live. I know the area that got hit very well. I have a friend that lives in that area and while he and his family is safe their house is a nothing but a pile of toothpicks now. This is the same general area that got hit by the May 3rd area in 1999, and this storm has done so much more damage than that one did. It is not a good time at all. Let's all keep the victims of this disaster in our thoughts and prayers as there are many people that did not survive this storm. I'm moving this thread over to "The Clubhouse" forum as it's a better place to discuss an issue such as this one. Ken

RE: pull start for airplanes?
There are many reasons why you don't see a pull starter on an airplane engines, some mentioned above and some have not been mentioned yet. not needed. an electric starter is much easier to use. weight of added mechanism having a pull string near a spinning propeller impossible to use if the engine is in a cowl difficulty to use. I don't want to try and hold a plane and be pulling on a starter rope dangerous. The position you would be in to use a pull starter would put in a dangerous position near the prop when the engine starts These are just some that come to mind right off the top of my head. I have both planes and cars and personally I find pulling a starter cord to start a car engine much more difficult and tiring than starting an airplane engine. Ken

RE: DynaFlite Super Decathlon Kit Bash and Build
Sorry that it took me so long to get the numbers on the weight for my tail feathers. I built them straight off the plans. The only modifications I did was to install Robart Hinge Points for my hinges. The weight of the vertical stabilizer, rudder, horizontal stabilizer, elevators, and all the hinges was 9.125 oz. This weight is before I have sanded the surfaces. Hope this helps Ken

RE: Charging Lipo Batteries In Transmitter
You can't charge a lipo battery in the transmitter. If you have retrofitted your transmitter with a Li-Po battery you will need to remove the battery in order to charge it. Once you have the battery out of the radio you can setup and do a proper balance charge which will allow you charge the battery at 1C and have it charged in one hour. The charging system on transmitters are designed for charging a Ni-Cad or Ni-mh batteries, which have different charging characteristics than a Li-Po battery does. In addition, if you charge a Li-Po battery improperly you can run the risk of the battery starting a fire. Hope this helps Ken
ORIGINAL: mattnew One thing I'm liking about the glue... is while it slows you down, it doesn't really slow the build down that much. I'm taking my time more and getting better joints first... rather than just throwing pieces together and whacking down some superglue. Much more pleased with my final results.
I gave up on using CA's in my building long ago, and now I use wood glue like you are using (Carpenter's Wood Glue). I feel that my building improved when I went to wood glue, for a few different reasons. But you couldn't get me to go back to using CA if you paid me to do it. I like the results I get from the wood glue. Ken

RE: Transmitter operated kill switch ( toks
I'm with acerc. I've used optical kill switches, but I have had them go bad and then it was just money down the drain. I like being able to kill the engine from the radio easily. I've used micro switches available from Radio Shack and I've also put a servo mounted to operate the choke on the carb. Either way will easily kill the engine from the radio. IMHO the optical switches are a waste of money. Ken
