In case you did not know, Styrofoam floats work well on ice, snow, water and on wet grass...don't ask how I know that...may have lived in Minnesota for a few years and flew year around. Enjoy!! John

RE: EXCELLENT DAY WITH AN EXCELLENT SENIOR FALCON ARF..
I recently got lucky and bought an ARF Senior Falcon an estate sale NIB My experience with Falcons goes back to the Jr Falcon with single channel control, to the Falcon 56 Mark II with a K&B engine and a Tower Gold tx. Yes, that was all a very long time ago. I am powering the Senior Falcon with a Tunigy SK4250 650 on a 14-10 prop and an 80 amp Turnigy Plush ESC. Using a Turnigy 4S 3600 lipo. Flies like a dream...Very predictable flight characteristics. Just a relaxing, very satisfying plane for me to fly. Mildly aerobatic. Lands on the main wheels then settles onto the nose gear. Brings back some fond memories of flying with my Dad many years ago. May be an old design, but sure flies well by today's standards also. John

Chuck, I chose the yellow and blue scheme because my "maturing" eyes can see that combination against either clear sky or clouds. It also shows well against a background of green trees on approach. John

RE: 50cc Giles
I'm thinking about buying Tom's 50cc Giles and would appreciate any comments from those of you that have flown it. I spoke with Tom last night and he gave we some good input. I plan to use it mainly for IMAC type flying and would be using a DL50. Chuck Chuck, I am on my 3rd and 4th Wild Hare plane. Now have the 88" Sukoi with a DL50 and the new 88" Giles with a DA 50. The Giles was nearly perfectly trimmed on the maiden flight. Have a canister on the engine as well. You will love this plane for IMAC. Interesting note, I have the blue and yellow version and as you fly vertically against a blue sky, the blue on the plane gets "lost" and the yellow looks like a jet!!! Tom is the best for design and customer support. You will be very happy with this purchase. John

RE: why causes the front bearings to leak on my gasser ???
RCNUTKNOY; You are correct naming all these quality bearings by their abriviations. Any good bearing dealer should carry these brands. Boca isnot a manufacturer, just a vendor. Boca carries all good brands. But you are wrong with your statement that a rough spot on your crank can damage a bearing seal. No bearing seal rubs on the crank shaft. The seals are between the outer and inner race

RE: why causes the front bearings to leak on my gasser ???
Where can you buy FAG bearings? and what do you think of the Boca bearings? (green seal) and also Bocs's full ceramics with the yellow seal? There are a number of top quality bearings on the market today.. SKF, FAG, KOYO, NTN, NSK, and the list goes on. The number on the bearing is interchangeable among all these manufacturers. If you are having leakage issues with one of these brand bearings, you have an alignment issue, or a very high temperature issue, or there is a rough spot on your crank shaft that is damaging your seal. A fingernail run across the area where the seal rubs on the crankshaft would reveal any rough area. Some folks try to go to a double lip seal..still does not address the root problem. Industrial supply houses all over the country carry these bearings in stock. Look in your phone book.

RE: Wildhare Ultimate Build Thread
WC. Make the cg fall on the ink marks on the blue tape I left on the top wing for you. The cg location is also written in the owners manual that came with the plane. You may need to use the hatch at the rear bottom of the plane for the batteries, I did with the DL50 in the plane and a 1300mah nicad on the motor box. Balance the plane inverted..it is actually easier than upright. Any more questions, I will be happy to help you. John

RE: Wild Hare Edge 540 purchase
I learned on my Wild Hare Edge the importance of the relationship of the CG to landing speed of the airplane. Too much nose weight and the plane lands significantly faster and has a higher potential for damage to the airframe, Although my experience is that the airframe is very robust!! Do not ask how I might know that!! If the gear area does get compromised, a number of threads here have shown excellent repairs for you to peruse.I learned that this plane will land at what seems to be a much too slow speed(compared to smaller planes). I would not trade my Edge V1 for anything. 4 years old and have a smile on my face after each flight. Customer service from Tom is second to none. Guess I am kinda sold on Wild Hare. John

RE: Ignition battery and 2.4GHz
Guys, I have been flying the A123 2300mah system in my stuff for a year now with ignition and receiver on the same battery. Absolutely no issues. I did a lot of reading about these systems before changing from nicads. I absolutely appreciate the level of discussion in this thread. It is very straightforward and well presented. There are folks in my club that are looking hard at A123, having seen the success I have had. As we go forward, we will continue to learn about these systems and their strengths and weaknesses, if any. I continue to learn what a good decision( in my eyes anyway)it was to switch to A123 as I read of the experiences of others using this technology. It is an exciting time in our hobby. John

RE: Landing Advice
I had the same learning curve with my V1. It took moving the cg backwards a little at a time to get the plane to grease in. A consistent low idle helps as the prop should act as a brake to slow the plane down a little on landing. The V1 is now like an old friend. Over three years old and still going strong. You will get it. Just keep trying. It is amazing how the cg affects your landing speed. John

RE: DL 50 Muffler is JUNK!!!
I, too, had the stinger fly off my DL50 somewhere out in the field. In discussing this with Bob, at DL, things like prop balance and spinner balance can play a huge role in the life of the stinger relative to the vibration induced by the prop and the spinner. That vibration can be amplified by the time it gets to and through the stinger what with the length of the otherwise unsupported stinger. The weld joints on my original muffler were very rough and obviously welded way too deep into the meat of the muffler for long term strength. The original muffler lasted about 6 flights. The replacement muffler I purchased from DL USA, has a much cleaner weld joint. I trust it will last much longer. My DL50 is still a good deal. I am satisfied with the response I got from Bob. Did I get a replacement muffler for free? No. Did I expect one? No. Would I have taken one for free? Sure. The engine is a good product as many have stated. Stuff just happens sometimes. John

Can anyone enlighten me as to where to purchase the spring that lives inside the shielded spark plug cover? Evidently I accidently "loaned" it to the neighbor via air mail and now we cannot find it in the grass!!!!! Would hope to buy it locally at a small engine repair center maybe with the complete shielded plug cover. Thanks in advance for any information you guys might have. John

RE: WH Ultimate Build
Ken, I do not know if you have a gasket between the muffler and the engine. I have had issues keeping muffler bolts tight while using the gasket, but when I remove it and use high temp silicone RTV in place of the gasket, the problem has gone away. You also may want to double check the balance of your prop. Excessive vibration can come from there as well. There is also the ever present issue of excessive hot air being expelled from certain club members at that field. Their karma can affect the EMF at the field and throw life in general "out of balance"!!! Ha!! John

RE: Whats the main difference between wild hare and extreme flight?
I have the WH Edge V1 and the Ultimate Biplane. The edge is on its 4th season with a DA50. It is like an old friend now. I know what it will do with any control I give it. It will fly docile or crazy. Piece of cake to land. STILL gets good reviews at the flying field. As I understand it, the V2 flies even better. I just haven't been able to kill the V1!!!!!!!! Customer support with Tom at WH is second to none. You will have a smile from ear to ear when you open the box on your WH plane and an even bigger one when you fly it. Go for it!!! John

RE: WH Ultimate Build
Glover, When I flew my Ultimate on 72 mhz, I routed the antenna thru nyrod tubing on the floor of the turtle deck back into the vertical stab area. Just zip tie the tube to the ply brace behind the former at the back of the canopy opening and you will be fine. I now use Spektrum equipment so antennas are not an issue. Some of us put G62's or Evolution 58's in their Ultimates. We fabricated an access hatch in the bottom of the fuse to mount the batteries for CG control. A hint here is to assemble the plane, mark your CG range location and tape your batteries where you need to to the outside of the fuse to get your CG correct. THEN make an access hatch in the bottom of the fuse to allow you to install the batteries and have access to them later. I think a thread from a couple of years ago by jongurly has some pictures of this hatch. You will really like this plane!! John
