RE: F-14 Kit Release 12/09/05
hi Paul, I'm building their T-38 right now. I'm down in Florida till April, too :( If you haven't built a kit before, you might want to try the F-15 or F-18 first, less Depron heat bending with those kits. Tom - TDY Brooksville, Fl.

RE: OUT WITH DUCTED FANS, BYE BYE TURBINES, ITS ELECTRIC 16-20 LB EDF WE WANT FOR REGULAR JET POWERPLANT
Very True Eddie. I've also noticed that there making turbines smaller these days too. Pretty soon we might be able to have jets where we can overlap the technologys :) build it both ways. Right now the limiting factor (for me at least) is the cost. When it becomes cheaper to fly turbines, I just might do that. I don't have a blazing desire for speed, but I don't like how electric jets "fade away" as the packs discharge, either. With a Turbine you get full power, right up till she runs out of fuel.

RE: OUT WITH DUCTED FANS, BYE BYE TURBINES, ITS ELECTRIC 16-20 LB EDF WE WANT FOR REGULAR JET POWERPLANT
We still need more variety in electric motors to power these monster fans. We need HIGH Voltage ESC's that can handle all this power, and we kit designers to build jets that can handle this size of fan. The nice thing is that we are right at the start of something HUGE!! You will see everything come together in two years or less, so start saving those pennies folks, the future of BIG EDF's looks bright indeed!!! Tom
ORIGINAL: apflyboy i just was looking at those EDF planes and i think they are awesome. I can't afford a gas Jet plane yet so i want to look into get one of those. I was wondering if anyone knows how much they cost, where i can get them online, and how fast they usually go. Thanks for the help
Ted Goodwin's F-16 is for sale at http://www.crosswindcomposites.com his F-16 has been clocked at about 130+ mph. Ed's Camo F-22 is a one-off Balsa Build (the ONLY Twin Minifan F-22 in the USA with retracts) I beleive if you contact him through RC Groups, you can order a set of plans. Most of the people who work on the Big EDF's hang out at RC Groups, and the Wattflyer Forum's. There is also a huge group of people that fly small foamy EDF jets, suitable for parkflying, and some small enough for indoor flying. Some websites that support EDF jets are www.eam.net www.dynamoelectrics.com www.warbirds-rc.com and my website www.parkjets.com Tom - Milwaukee

RE: 3dfoamy F-15 questions.
Never thought of adding a whistle before Are you talking about running two EDF's in a single duct? not sure what you mean by 2-1-2 ducting. Tom
ORIGINAL: bdavison Bill, I think Im going to just build a custom DF unit. Im going to go with two seperate fans in a dual motor unit with 2-1-2 ducting, running off two 1360mah lipos. Im hoping to get 40oz of thrust. Probably turning 22,000 per rotor. Have any of you put a whistle in the pipes of one of these things to make it sound like a jet? The plane so far looks great. Fitting the fans inside is going to be fun, but I think I can pull it off and make it look hot.
RE: 3dfoamy F-15 questions.
If you go to my website, [link=http://www.parkjets.com]www.parkjets.com[/link] I have a free-plans webpage that lists Steve Shumates F-15. On that webpage, there are numerous links to "Other" Discussion forums that have active threads on converting Parkjets into EDF power. Most of 3D Foamy's parkjets require some type of mod to take EDF units. The only one convertable without too much trouble is the F-14. It can be built for single pusher, twin pusher, or twin WeMoTec Microfan EDF's. [image]http://www.nasa.gov/centers/dryden/images/content/108608main_F-15active_flight.jpg[/image] The F-15 Active looks like a fun jet to try, I might have to give that a go once :) I have one of the last FFF F-15 kits sold by 3D foamy, I might adapt it to the F-15 Active design. I also have a 3Dfoamy T-38 I want to build soon. Tom - Milwaukee www.parkjets.com

RE: Newbie to wattage f-22, need help.
I just ran across this note on an internet search of all things. I hope you had some good flights out of the Astro on the raptor. BUT...Since no one has bothered to answer you since Janurary, I'll throw in my 2 cents worth for someone who in the future might consider the plane. I'm building one of these that I bought off of ebay last winter. First off I'd re-enforce the stabs no matter what your putting in it. This is the one big weak spot on this jet. Mounting the stabs and servo's is time consuming, and on more than one occasion I've thought of taking a wire cutter and turning this into an edf (Microfan) but so far I have resisted temptetation. Your Microfan Astro/10 combo will work wonders, just remember you need a brushless ESC also. I'd like to buy another one someday and do some experiments on it, cutting open the intakes, make internal ductwork, add 2 microfans, or GWS EDF-30's is they ever come out with them, although there is probably enough room for 2 EDF-40's but I'm not that ambitious yet. But the one REAL mod I'd like to make is to add Rudder's and Aleron's to this jet. I've seen several mods on alerons but nothing about the Rudders. So if anyone has any ideas, let me know. I'll Post a flight report when I finally get mine finished.

RE: Turbines and Edf's performing on the same stage.
First off it is up to the event promoter to decide what type of aircraft they want flying at their event. There is no reason that you cannot have a Turbine only event, and if someone wants to promote one, Lord bless them, have at it. I'm sure you'd have great attendance. With Turbine aircraft you are dealing with a highly specialized form of RC Flight. Turbine aircraft are the Top Fuel Dragsters of the RC world. I for one, would like to see everyone get along, and I believe that for the most part everyone can make allowances so that it can happen. It's just a matter of common sense, really. The Electric Ducted fan industry is still in it's infancy for the most part. As the equipment and batteries become stronger, we will see quite a few 100-200 mph electric jets. I'm sure that turbine powered aircraft will become cheaper in the future too, there are already small turbines that produce less than 5 lbs of thrust, and as the price comes down, there will be a lot of electric flyer's who make the switch to turbine power. However, I really doubt that I will be one of them, as I enjoy the ease of using Electric power for my jets. I see no reason why high powered electric's cannot fly with Turbines, as long as there is some type of parity with aircraft speed, the type of power system used shouldn't matter at all. And at the risk of teeing someone off I'd also like to point out that there there is no real reason why a turbine Has to fly at 200 mph also, other than the pilot's vanity. Just my $0.02 worth.

RE: ALL YOUNG HOBBYISTS READ!! YOUR MONEY PROBLEMS ARE OVER!!
I have a couple of suggestions for you All of you know people who have things that they don't use anymore, go around and buy all the GOOD, working, complete items and sets, and re-sell them on the weekends in a yard sale, or get your folks to set up an ebay account for you, and you can sell it all on ebay. You can make more in one morning selling things at a yard sale than you can make all week selling candy at school. We had a flea market by us, and every weekend I'd make over 200 - 300 bux selling everything from pens to CD's and whatever else I could find to re-sell. You might get so good at it you can do it for a living and be your own boss!! The whole secret is to buy CHEAP and sell it for as much as you can.

RE: The How To's of designing & scratch building planes.
I've just bought a Wattage F-22 Raptor that I am going to put together. What I am thinking of doing too, is drawing out the pieces and making a "Double Size" F-22 out of foam, that I can add 2 EDF's into. I don't know if anyone has tried something like this, most scratch build planes are balsa, but I'd like to stick with a foam core, and maybe fiberglass it. I'm thinking of using either Depron or Clorplast (sic) for inner support frames and folding wings out of depron too. Anyone have any thoughts on this, or am i wasting my time?

EJF (electric Jet Factory) was supposidly working on one, but I hear the prototype crashed, something about not finding the proper COG ... sigh Someone on one of the other RC Groups converted the Wattage jet to edf's (GWS 30's) but it didn't fly near as good as the pusher prop. I have a Wattage Jet comming that I bought off Ebay last week, and I plan on taking the parts and drawing out a double size plan and making a twin edf out of Depron over the winter.
