RE: I put a 90 on a 40 just for fun.
I put a .91 Surpass in a Kyosho Sukhoi once just because I had the engine laying around. I LOVED THAT COMBINATION! It really improved my attitude (at the time) about the Sukhoi airframe. That was one of the best flying planes I have had to date. I just wish they still offered the plane [:o].

RE: super chipmunk
Todd, I know the World Model ARF is a rip-off of the Goldberg Chippy. The instructions for the World Model's Super Chipmunk can be found here... http://www.theworldmodels.com/para/instruction/pdf/A004RF.pdf I know I could not have flown my WM Chippy first before my others. I would have been putting it in a trashbag if I would have. It isn't that hard to fly but my reflexes would have not been up to the task when I first started. Hope this helps you [:D] CJ

I flew a WM Chippy for years and always thought they were the same. As a matter of fact, I definately remember seeing threads in rec.models.rc.air (newsgroup) years ago that said the WM version was a clone replica of the CG when it first came out. Sorry to hear of your Chippy's demise [:o] CJ

RE: POWERLINE HOBBIES--Lack of product support
Having never had a Chinese company build planes for me, I would guess that if they "spec" what goes on it, it is more expensive in any number of ways. I would guess that it is as stated above, they have no idea what is on it. I always just try and match it with what I can with what is available to me. I have also stipped an ARF and just recovered it if I liked the model, was satisfied with the wood used, but wanted to get rid of the cheap-o stuff. One that comes to mind is my Hobbico Brightstar that is getting a bit dated. I love the flight characteristics of the plane but wanted it to be around awhile so I recovered it with Coverite. CJ

RE: Are ARF's on their way out?
I agree. I am glad that when I got into the hobby in 1985 I had to build my CG Eagle 63 from a kit. I then went on to build several CG models. It gave me the skills to use later while assembling ARF's. Glassing a wing center, techniques to use for this and that to name a few. CJ

RE: world Models Super Sports 40 pics.....
For main landing gear, I ordered some Hobbico Brightstar landing gear from Tower. They are much, much stronger than the stock gear and work great (same size as the stock ones). Course, this was like four years ago when the Brightstar was still around. I did a quick search at the Tower site using "landing gear" and came up with some good substitutions as well from Great Planes. I have also used piano wire from the Hobby Shop. A torch and some bending make for good, strong gear. Just be sure to temper it with a cold water bath after heating the whole thing. CJ

RE: world Models Super Sports 40 pics.....
Let me rephrase what I meant to say lol. When I tried to really grease it in then I would get the drop from about 6". So its really me and not the plane. Sorry I wasn't clear. Yep, you are probably right on the wing lengthening thing. Guess I'll leave well enough alone. However, I still may look at lightening it. It was only 5.5lbs ready to fly if memory serves so maybe I'm just wanting to tinker. Yep, it seems as if it would snap better left than right. I love my Super Sports for just fun, knocking around flying. You know, when you want a break from the Extra or Cap but want more than a trainer. The Super Sports .40 is a good design that can make even me look good. CJ

RE: world Models Super Sports 40 pics.....
I forgot to mention in my posts above that my Super Sports were the original one, not the newer 40S version. It looks like the wing was stretched a bit. It needed it, on flare, if you were too agressive, the plane would stall. Course, it was still an easy to take-off, fly, and land airplane. Hmmmm ?? While I have the covering off this one, I might add some wing to it and lighten the fuse... CJ

RE: world Models Super Sports 40 pics.....
Ironcross, My first Super Sports was my first low wing model after my CG Eagle 63 and CG Cub. I might of been able to be trained on the Super Sports (maybe ??) but not on the T-34. I would have dumped that one for sure lol. The speed alone would have made me make mistakes [:(]. You see, one day after I had my first T-34 for awhile, I got cocky and started doing some really low passes at full throttle with the YS. "WOW !...that was cool, let's do that again....." SMASH ! Sooo many pieces lol. Got disoriented and dumped it right in front of me. It was weird watching it go in, flat on its belly from a barrol-roll type thing. It was mostly dust but the YS lived to go in another which I wore out. So far, I have had these World Model planes... 5 Super Sports 3 T-34's 1 Extra 300 .30 size (OS .52) 1 Super Chipmunk (OS .91) 1 Super Emmeraude (OS .91) I have loved them all... CJ

RE: world Models Super Sports 40 pics.....
IronCross, I have also had two of the T-34's. They are great flyers. Like the Super Sports but a little more aerobatic and FAST ! I had an OS .52 on one and a YS .53FZ on the other. The YS made the plane fast enough to distort the canopy. Airborne sold me another for $10 and I made sure I sealed this one with transparant Monocote. The air was getting under the canopy on the original one and acted like a parachute I guess. It never came off but it sure stretched that plastic. Love WM planes...I have had many of the offerings at Airborne Models. CJ

RE: Terrorism and RC planes! TLC's Article. Shame!!
My only thought on this... We have seen many, many video's from the middle-east right here on RCU of guys flying (many doing it well too). So if those guys are able to fly their little planes (ok, some are not so little) right in the middle of all the conflict, what would making them illegal here in the States do to help ? I have had a video/GPS/HUD thing set up in a GP Spacewalker. It worked very well and I could actually fly the thing from a TV set (and virtual reality glasses). I have no reason to believe this could not be done if it were illegal. Besides, do terrorists go by the rules ? Funny thing...I was talking about this very video setup out on rec.models.rc.air in 2001 or there about and I got contacted by the Navy on the particulars of my setup and if it worked well. The guy said he was experimenting with these types of things for use in the field. Maybe big brother was watching me ?? Who knows... Just my .02

RE: Real Flight G2 and Windows XP
I have been running G2 with add-on's 1, 2, and 3 for about 3 or 4 years now on XP Pro with no problems. I did have to use the "special" install start routine to get it to start on the install. Other than that, no problems. I also got the gameport to USB converter from RadioShack ($6.97). I use the #2 setting on the converter and it works like a champ ! CJ

RE: W.M. Super Chipmunk w/retracts
Hi....I had one of these and enjoyed it very much ! I had an OS .91FS with a Graupner 3-blade prop. >>1. Any build issues to watch out for? Tips during assembly? Balance it laterally ! Mine was out by a couple of ounces. Funny thing, with it unbalanced laterally, it would do the neatest Waterfalls ! When I balanced it, this tendency went away [8|]. >>2. How do the retracts hold up? Anyone had a problem? They are way too soft and bend. I got some Robart Robo-struts and they performed well. The struts are allot heavier than the stock ones but you get shock absorbtion and a very scale looking setup. I did have to do some surgery on the wing to get the struts to fit in the "up" position as the wheels are a bit larger than the stock setup. ** I did end up removing the retracts and opted for a fixed gear setup. I got some glass pants from Stan's FiberTech and they are excellent. ** >>3. What is the best was to mount the motor? Side, Inverted? I mounted the OS .91FS sideways and used a remote glow setup to make starting easier. >>4. How are the flight characteristics? Anything to watch out for? How are the landings? With it balanced correctly...it lands so nice. Even without flaps it was a floater. With flaps...well it slows to a little faster than walking speed. You will find that it snaps really fast when asked. >>5. Flight times? Larger tank needed? Haven't used the engine you speak of but I would suspect 10-12 minutes (??). >>6. How is the supplied hardware? I always use a Dubro throttle cable...it just works better for me (no slop). The WM control horns are some of the best I have seen and always use them when I assemble one of their models. The supplied pushrods are kinda lame because they are too soft and thin. You might think of switching those out for something better. You will enjoy your Goldberg....errrrr....WM Chippy (its an exact replica of the Goldberg in every detail) and will enjoy watching it come in for landings...what a beautiful bird ! Keep it light and it will carry you through many, many, many flights. Good luck and I hope this helps ! CJ
