RE: 30cc Edge 540 build
I came across the AW 30cc EDGE 540 ARF-QB after I got my 71 Slick and I keep coming back and looking at the AW Edge. I haven't finished my 71 Slick yet but wondering if the AW 30cc EDGE 540 ARF-QB would be a better "first gasser" for me since the plane is built with thinker balsa making the AW more durable? Looking at the instruction manual and hardware between the 71 Slick and the AW 30cc EDGE 540 ARF-QB....I like the AW better. Personally the throttle servo setup on the 71 Slick has been my biggest challenge. Makes me think that the AW 30cc EDGE 540 ARF-QB is more suited for intermediate builder looking for his first gasser and the 71" Slick would be the next plane. Is there anyone that has a 3DHS 71" Slick and the AW Edge that could give me some feedback on the differences between these two planes? Any advice? Thanks!
ORIGINAL: BigGrump If the KM is so inferrior to the HPI then it is not actually a clone, is it......... But, when you have the example of the HPI and KM and each break a arms and the owners go into the hobby store and both buy RPM replacment parts, then which is better? The guy spending $500 less in the first place seems to have the advantage. Dennis
Good point. But in the end with the parts you replace on a KM clone...are you really saving any money going with a clone? There is no real way to tell which parts you're going to break because everyone runs their trucks differently. Some go balls to the wall...some just run them with no idea what to encounter. Someone with no experience with running 1/5 scale I can see a lot of parts getting broken no matter what you have.

RE: King Motor T1000 Baja Truck
Wow....this thread seems to strike a nerve in some people. IMHO "to each his own" if they want to buy a clone or the original. I know if someone really wants to get into 1/5 scale and get something that they can easily get parts for and not pay top dollar then I can see where a clone 5T or 5B is appealing. The way I look at it...in the end HPI is still going to get your money. If you want to save a few hundred initially to get into 1/5 scale then get a clone. It's your choice. Parts are going to break and no R/C is bullet proof. Get what you can afford and are welling to pay for and have fun rather it be a clone or HPI. Bottom line is buy what you feel is a good purchase. Me I'll wait till I can get the HPI 5T. For me I feel that purchasing a HPI product gives me more peace of mind knowing that I purchased from a reputable MFG. Thanks for all the feedback.[sm=thumbup.gif]

Made the switch today. I exchanged my Aerobird 3 for the Super Cub and paid the difference for the Super Cub. Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to get it together and try flying it. Can't wait! Thanks!

RE: First Plane! Which between the two
bigedmustafa....With that being said I probably should try to get the Super Cub since I don't have any RC plane experience? I like the looks of the Super Cub instead anyways! Do you think that the Super Cub is more durable than the Aerobird 3? I tried to fly my buddies Aerobird Xtreme and took off and then flew it right into the gound. The wind conditions were not the best that day either

RE: Buying a FG or nitro tomorrow need help
I have 3 nitro's and one Gas FG. Ever since I got the FG the nitro's just sit. Every now and then I fire up the nitro's and I get reminded why I like gasers better. I look at it this way. If you like tinkering, tuning and spending more time wrenching then driving then get a nitro R/C. If you like gas-n-go fun without all the fuss of tuning and retuning depending on the weather, get a gaser. After the initial cost of a large scale gas buggy or truck, you'll only be spending money on pump gas and 2-cycle oil unless you get bit by the alloy bug. Gas is were it's at! You can't beat it!

Tips in Selling buggy?
I'm trying to sell my Marder Race and have a few questions. In order to sell it would it be better to take the optional hop-ups off of it and part it out rather than selling it as a whole? If I part it out and sell it as a bare bones Marder Race, should I sell it RTR with the radio gear or not? I'm just looking for the best way possible to sell it and not loose with what I've got into it. If I can't seem to sell it for what it's worth, then I guess I just have to keep it. Thanks for any advice.

RE: HPI Baja5b Price Change
Tower won't honor that $899 price. I called them on it and this is what they had to say: Thank you for writing Tower Hobbies. We are sorry but HPI raised the price on this item after they had already announced a lower price. Because we never actually ever got to purchase stock at the initial, lower price it is impossible for us to honor the lower price. When this happens (and it's usually pretty rare) we do try to honor the price as a service to ur customers. In this case, unfortunately we are unable to. Be sure to see our main web page for a good, money saving opportunity. Thank you for writing Tower Hobbies. We appreciate your time and your business with us. -Tower Hobbies Even in their latest Speedmart flyer the Baja 5b is priced $899.99.

Swapped out the servo horn for the HD plastic one and the radio glitch is gone. As far as the engine I checked the plug and it was black as an Ace of spades. Does this mean that it is running too rich? If so I need to start adjusting the needles on the carb right? Thanks!

Removing Engine
How hard or easy is it to pull an engine from a Marder Race? I'm trying to identify if the 26cc big bore was done on my car before I baught it. The recoil says G260RC but on the case it says G230-RC1. So it looks like I'll have to pull the engine to pull the head and measure the bore or piston size. Any suggestions let me know!

radio_controlled_mad....After I looked into the difference between the G23 and G26 it is only the pistion and head. Both engines use the same case like you said. I bought the MR at Modelbouw Krikke in Groningen Nederland. Ron the shop owner assured me that the 26cc bore up kit was done. I think for peace of mind I want to check it out for myself.

RE: Zenoah g260 id
I have one for yea...I have a Marder Race that I baught over in Holland last year and it had the original G230-RC1 Zenoah engine in it but was suppose to be swapped to the G260. When I got the car back to the hotel I started looking it over. I noticed that on the bottom of the engine there was a white sticker with a G230 on it. I emailed the model shop owner and asked him about it because the sticker on the recoil shroud said G260RC. He said that they did the big bore conversion on the G230 to make it a G260. Is there any other way I can check if my engine is a true G260 engine without disassembling it and checking the bore? Or just pull the fan shoud off and look at the top of the cylinder and see if I see a small hole close to the spark plug thread like chevyman_de mentioned? Thanks!

RE: exhaust spray?????
Well since I found this thread I have a few questions. I have a Marder Race with the Zenoah G260-RC running a Samba pipe. I'm using a 25:1 oil/gas ratio mix and I have black oily spray all over the back of my beetle body. The exhaust is pretty smokey and the performance is sluggish. I have about 1 gallon of fuel through the engine at this time. When I nail the throttle it's sluggish off the line then the rpm's build up and it starts going pretty well. At the top end the engine cuts in and out like there is air in the line. Could this be because the carb needs adjusted or my oil to gas ratio is not right? Thanks.

RE: Having a few issues with Marder Race
chowderhead72....Yes I'm using the metal servo horn that came with the 5645. I put plastic washers in between the two couliers that attach the throttle and rear brake linkage. I also have a peice of fuel tubing on the two control rods that go to the carb and rear brake just where they pass over the clutch housing. Thanks for the tip and I'll switch out the servo horn to the plastic one first to see if the glitch is solved. Thanks!

RE: Having a few issues with Marder Race
hellya...I have to say that the hydro brake setup using the third servo is the ticket! Car stops nicely now. As far as the plug, haven't checked it yet but there is black oily slug like stuff on the back of the beetle body and around the pipe (samba). I'll have to check with the LHS to see if they can test the receiver. I'm going to open the receiver box and check the receiver and the connections. Who knows I might find something.
