RE: Wiring up two batteries? (Ni-Cd)
Go with what rcairflr says in post #4, this is the only way to do it. Do not try to hard wire the batteries in parallel as charging NiCD and NiMH batteries in parallel is considered a big NoNo, they must be charged separately.............RJ

RE: RCGF Engines
I too, acquired a new CM-6 plug before even starting my Aerovate 45. Alas it's still in it's box in my flight box. The OEM plug is still running fine after a hard summers use. What a dead reliable engine this has turned out to be, I really like it............RJ

RE: RCGF Engines
JVB, I've got my 45 cc Aerovate on an AW 35cc Extra 300. I've flown it with both a 20-8 and a 21-8 Xoar prop. I like the 20-8 for this 14.5 Lb. plane. It turns the 20-8 at 7500 RPM and spins up real nice. Verticle is no problem...........RJ

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
My engine with muffler, Ign. and Ign. battery weigh about 60 Ounces. My Rx battery is a 2cell A123 battery at about 5.5 ounces and is mounted just behind the wing tube along side the receiver. Spinner is a stock Tru-Turn. gmulus, with a DLE-55 and 13.5 pounds that thing must be truly a rocket[:D]............RJ

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
Paul, Where I think you might have some trouble with this combination is that these planes (AW 35cc) tend to come in tail heavy. In my case, with a 45cc gas engine on the front and the ignition battery on the side of the engine box I still had to add about six ounces of lead in the nose to balance it half an inch behind the recommended balance point. I have to admit the plane still flys great at 14.5 Lbs..........RJ

RE: What kinda engine is this old thing?
It does look a lot like the Atwood Triumph .49 (glow version ) that I had back in 1950. The venturi has been modified. I believe the clue would be whether the crankcase bottom is a separate piece held in place with screws. The Champion is the only engine I ever saw that was done that way............RJ

RE: What the heck happened??
Folks, Please look carefully at the picture Jim put in his post, he is measuring the output of the charger directly across the Tx output plug. As Red stated in his post this is measuring the maximum output of the charger into almost a direct short circuit. To get an accurate measure of the output the mA meter must be put in series with the charger and the 9.6 volt battery. In this case the output will probably be in the order of 70 mA plus or minus 20%. This is not rocket science...........RJ

I just inherited a case of 10% Red Max Supertigre fuel, There is no indication of the percentage oil in this fuel. If anybody knows what it is I'd sure like to know. RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
Hey Dave, Looking good, keep us updated, sounds like you are not far from the maiden. You will love this plane, I like mine a little more each time I fly it. I was a little worried about being tail heavy but it flys fine with the CG at 3.5 inches from the leading edge at the wing tip. Landing are almost hands off, with the engine idling just keep the wings level and she tracks right down. A touch of up elevator at the touchdown and you've got a perfect three pointer. Sets down light as a feather even at 14.5 pounds. Love it...........RJ

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
Hi Dave, My dry weight was 14 Lbs. 9 Ozs. I have already removed 1.5 Ozs. from the nose for the next flight. I have a feeling the thing will fly great balanced at 3.5 Inches. Go ahead and use the Saito, just hang enough lead on the nose to balance it at 3 to 3.5 inches, fly it, then remove weight till it flys the way you like it..........RJ

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
First flights on my 35cc Extra 300 Saturday, I was a little worried about being a little tail heavy but everything went very well. No more than one click of trim in any direction and she was flying straight and level. First two flights were five minutes to get the trim set and make sure that nothing was vibrating loose then a fifteen minute flight to have a little fun. Knife edge will require some small mixes but nothing major. I was flying with very small elevator throw because I was worried about the tail heaviness, shouldn't have worried and will have more normal throws next time out. It required 10 ounces of lead on the motor mounts to balance at 3-3/8" Now I have to figure out how to get rid of some of the lead, I can move the battery up beside the gas tank but can't think of any thing else right now. I'll try to add a picture, sorry about the lack of wheel pants, our grass field eats wheel pants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. No bling either, I hate it. To take the beautiful clean lines of an aircraft and chop it all up with a bunch of bling really turns me off (no offense intended, just my opinion). Good airplane Mark, keep em coming.

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
Hi Cap, I remember that, glad you were able to get the right parts to allow you to move the engine forward. I knew I was in trouble when I first got the plane and I weighed some of the parts. The rudder weighed over 4 ounces compared to the rudder on my 74" Yak which weighed 2.5 ounces and the Yak has a larger rudder. Thats almost the weight of a servo. The other tail parts were also very heavy in comparison. I think those tail parts are made of rock hard balsa, very sturdy though. I think I will try moving the engine about 3/16" forward (will require another hole in the cowl to clear the low point of the muffler). Then I will just have to add weight to the nose to balance. Thanks to all who have answered up ............ RJ

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
HELP, I just got my 35cc Extra 300 assembled to the point where I can weigh it and check the CG. Wow, is it ever tail heavy. The instructions call for the CG at 3" back of the leading edge at the wing tip. Mine balances at about 4.25" and the addition of 8 Oz. of lead right on the engine only moves it forward to about 3.5". The plane is much like the one Jake R. did the build on, RCGF 45, A123 Battery, Hitec digitals all around. Instead of the light (3.5 Oz.) side mount muffler that came with the engine I am using the Jtec wraparound which weighs at least twice that much. I notice that the 3" figure brings the balance point to about 1" in front of the middle of the wing tube, my plane balances just aft of the middle of the wing tube. I guess my question is will the plane be flyable with this CG. My EF 74" Yak balances just a little aft of the middle of the wing tube and it is very docile. You guys that are flying this plane, where is your CG. Thanks for any Info. you can give me.................RJ

Hi Cap, You are right, your extension is a full half inch longer that mine. I went to the www.brillellicustoms.com site and they are still showing the extension in their catalog. Check it out with them. I just got the servos installed in the wings of my AW 35cc Extra 300 and it's looking good. Need to get the engine installed next. RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
Hi Cap, I don't know if it's just the photographic perspective or not but it looks like the prop extension on your B46 is a lot longer than the one on my B46. If it is, you could install a shorter one and move your engine further out and still maintain the 6 inch prop driver to firewall distance. If you want to check yours, mine is 1- 13/16 inch long from the front of the collar that holds the magnetic pickup to the front edge of the prop driver. I think these might still available from the guy that worked with Scott Ellingson in the manufacture of these engines.........RJ

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
Hi Jake, Just read your review on the QB 35cc Extra. Good job, I am now working on the same setup engine and all. Just a couple of questions. What was the total length of the standoffs you used to achieve the 6" firewall to prop driver? The standoffs that came with my engine were 50 mm long and that puts the engine about 0.4 inches to far forward. I will need to cut them to the proper length. Also, what length did you use on your rudder servo horn to achieve the least problems with slack cable? I seem to remember you did a review on the EF 74" Yak a while back, if so, how does this plane compare with the Yak? Thanks for any Info. you can give me. ............ RJ

RE: airtronics pcm on off switch?
The switch harness marked PCM is necessary only if you are using the fail safe features of the system. It is not required for FM operation or PCM operation if you are not using the fail safe capabilities. The special switch harness marked PCM provides a keep alive voltage to the receiver when it is in the off position so it does not lose the fail safe positions programmed into the Rx memory...........RJ

RE: A123 Battery
I think what JPS is saying is that his pack or packs have a balance lead and connector which happens to be a JR/Hitec lead and connector. The yellow wire is normally used as the signal lead when used with a Rx and servo but when used as the balance lead on his pack it is the center tap on the battery pack. Since I don't have the 4s charger I don't know whether it will charge through the two lead power connector.........RJ

JLK, Thanks for your comment, I am aware of the problems with using a loaded voltmeter with the A123 batteries and am very careful. Also, if you will notice I said I am using a two wire extension to connect the balance connector to the Rx., only the common and +6.6 Volts are carried through to the Rx. Stan and Cap't Lou, I see that the Cellpro unit is widely accepted by those who have used it, it is on my short list...............RJ
