RE: SYSSA 30CC GAS MADE IN USA
Here's how I held my choke open...very simple! Hooked a nyrod to the choke and ran it out of the bottom of the cowl. I used a gator clip to hold it in place when I pulled the nyrod down. Once the engine popped, I took the gator clip off, put it back in my pocket, and started my plane.

RE: 3MM-TOC 53 Who sells them?
Do you sell throttle arms separately? My 3mm TOC 53 doesn't have a throttle arm on the carburetor. I made up something that works (for now anyway), but would feel a lot safer with the real deal. I have the 3MM, not the TMM. Do they use the same throttle arm? Where is the best place I can get one?

RE: Syssa vs DLE 30cc.... Stright up, witch one makes more thrust?
I have not owned both. Just the Syssa. I do have other, larger gas engines however. Syssa is the easiest thing I've ever used, and the 3 standoff mounting didn't strike me as bad or good per se...just different...maybe lighter? As long as it is strong enough (and it is), my needs are met. Other club members have the DLE 30 and it is strong, swinging an inch bigger prop. For more thrust, I simply purchased the new VESS 18.5 x 5.5. Otherwise I use xoar 18x6 and 18x8. My Pilot-RC Sbach flies awesome. These are both engines that the owners really appreciate. I think that the cost is real close once you purchase a pitts muffler and single bolt prop hub on the DLE.

RE: Tip stalling remedies?
On this particular plane, the tank is well forward of CG, unlike my gassers. I have a 12 ounce tank. I never thought about it, but a glow plane is never balanced until it is empty! CG will always be forward. Is that correct? So to summarize, since this plane is an arf and I can't build anything into the wing, I need to limit throws, and keep speed up till it's down. A forward CG is a given since the tank butts up to the firewall and it won't fly when empty. Take it easy on take-off, go high and see what happens. Landing should carry some speed and not have crazy corrections on the way down. It's not a good idea to "chop the throttle and glide in".

Tip stalling remedies?
I purchased a Seagull Extra arf (.75 to .95 size / 63" ws) as an aerobatic "trainer" if you will. After getting it home I read mant reviews that said it tip stalled easily. Since I am not a skilled pilot, I'd like to build in feature(s) that will minimize the tip stalling trait before I maiden it. What do you think of putting a strip or two of a flexible, plastic "L" material across the top of the wing as a sort of short fence? Also at the tip? Lastly, what do you guys think of building and adding a spacer 1" wide that matches the wing at the root? What would happen if you added one to each side of the fuse and used a wing tube that was 2" longer? I just want the plane to behave till I have a chance to get used to it.

RE: Templates for cooling cutouts?
Why do you think manufacturers bother to design engine cooling elements on their products? Why do you think every internal combustion engine I can think of is implemented in a manner that allows it to get rid of heat and stay cool? At the very best, a hot engine won't perform as well. I haven't been as picky with glow either...basically as long as I have flow around the fins. As mentioned earlier, hot engines tend to conk out and cause dead sticks. Gas engines especially so. They DO need proper cooling to live and perform. As I said, the best case is you lose some performance and land it before something worse happens (your lack of a bigger tank may be saving your butt). Worst case, you dead stick and MAYBE get it down in one piece, or you fry the engine. Gas engines and the planes they fly represent a significant investment. When you have thousands of dollars in the air, you tend to take care of it. Yes, the way you cool your engine can be "customized", but regardless of how you do it...it should be done.

RE: How Much Do They Make Per Year
Do any of you guys on the search for truth and fairness own a phone? If so, please call the people you are concerned about directly. Don't malign them here based on self serving speculation. Tell them you think they make too much if that's how you feel. Maybe you'll feel differently after a conversation. Want info? Show integrity and, like a reporter, ask the people involved for answers. That's how you can get your answers. Quit relying on the computer and "looking things up". Your efforts seem less than sincere or serious. If you are going to play reporter or judge, please get the whole story first. Again, not all research can be done from your couch or computer desk. Also, Social commentary without experience or knowledge is silly and unbecoming. Anybody remember the movie Dr. Zchivago where the protagonist family is forced to share their home with many others because "it is too big for one family". This whole thread reminds me of that. By the way, there's always someone who will do a job for less...even yours. Is that the only criteria we use?

Thanks all. I was close! I had the cab base gasket and the red plastic spacer reversed. w8ye was right about installing the nipple in the pump cover and connecting the two. I know all this because Tom at Wild Hare is working LATE. He actually just replied (12:08am) to an email I sent earlier today. He sent me instructions and photos. That is one hard working, service oriented man! (Seems Tired Old Man knew what he was talking about too! Imagine that.) I'm attaching kit instructions in the event anyone ever needs them.

RE: TOC 53 update info
Hop Up Kit questions...I didn't have instructions in my kit so I tried the install on my own. I have never touched a carb so I am flying blind. Everything seemed to make sense except I wasn't sure about the thick red gasket made out of plastic. Does this picture look like I stacked things right? Also, my kit didn't have a piece of tape as described in posts above. Lastly, the nipple on the reed box...what's that for? Is that for the same thing as putting a nipple on the pressure plate and running a piece of tubing to the fuse? Do I connect the two nipples?

3MM 53 Hop Up kit
I just installed the Hop Up kit for the 3MM 53. I've never worked on a carb before and the kit didn't come with instructions (just an oversight I am certain.) Since it is the wekend, it'll be several days before I'll probably be able to contact Wild Hare R/C. I want to run the engine this weekend so I thought I'd check here. Is there anyone who has the 53 that can verify I stacked things properly from looking at this picture? My biggest question is about the red plastic gasket...is it in the right place? Also, the nipple on the reed block...does this act as an alternative to adding a nipple to the pressure plate with a line running to the fuse? The kit came with an extra nipple and I'm not sure if I am supposed to stick on the plate anyway. Thanks all!

While email is not a bad idea (Todd has always been responsive to my many questions and emails BEFORE I even became a customer), I would consider simply calling...you know, the telephone? They have always answered and helped me without rushing me through my novice questions. In short, I bugged the crap out of those guys with all kinds of questions and they were simply awesome. In light of that, I find your situation hard to imagine. I got my engine several months back and love it. It flys my Sbach very well and it is very user friendly to this novice guy. It has operated flawlessly for me. Trust it? I do. (I know that all sounds cheesy, but I'm just a regular customer who has had an excellent experience with this product and company. That is so rare these days that I really appreciate it. Take it for what it is worth.)

ahicks, mine behaves well. I did have to add weight to nose to balance. Only interesting thing about mine is that it doesn't float in like I thought it might. You have to fly it all the way down. Boostman, it looks like your carbon fiber portion of your tail wheel doesn't have enough drop. Either that or they gave you the 50cc size peice that holds the tiller. By the way, mine came with a spring instead of solid wire tiller arm, but it works just fine. I sent you a picture; check your messages.

Does anyone know what size and thread the walbro throttle lever screw is?? I want to use the blue metal servo arm on top of the throttle arm of my walbro carb and secure the two together. However, the throttle lever screw is not long enough to pass through the servo arm AND the walbro throttle arm. I need a longer screw. The screw is part # 96-142 but I don't know what size it is. I looked on the website and left a voicemail. Does anyone know what size and thread the walbro throttle lever screw is??

Crashed in the kitchen!
I had my plane balanced inverted (on the kitchen floor) and went to the other room to get a camera. I guess the airconditioner came on and I heard a crash. Plane slid off my rubber tipped dowels on bases. Cracked the canopy, and dented wings as the dowls slid along them. Probably no way to fix canopy. How can I un-dent my wings? Can I inject water with a syringe and iron it? It seems I read that somewhere...is it true? See pics below.

RE: NEW SYSSA 30CC GASSER MADE IN THE USA
Hey guys, Ive attached some pictures for your review. I cut back my firewall to facilitate needle adjustment. You'll notice that I have used a metal plate intended to cover an open electrical box between the wooden firewall and my standoffs. (I painted it black. It's kind of ugly!) It has a thin rubber material behind it against the firewall. I thought I could kill 2 birds with one stone by adding needed weight and stiffening my mounting surface with a vibration reducing subsurface at the same time. I have no idea how it will work yet...may go flying today. I did it because I came up a bit tail heavy; rolled inverted and she would climb. (dang ignition battery eliminating circuit! I love it / hate it. Love the ignition switch on transmitter, but need the battery weight to balance.)

RE: Pilot RC 73
Doug, I did not use them ORIGINALLY because of the existing triangle stock already in place. I believe the orginal prop to firewall distance was 5.2". The bad thing was getting to the needles on the carb...almost directly in the firewall. I have since moved the firewall back about an inch and now evrything clears the wall. Much simpler! I did a good job of notching, glueing, bracing, and screwing the modified box together, but I also ended up using angle stock to wrap around the outside of the firewall. I screwed the part attaching to the sides of the box, with the remainder wrapping around the front. That part was also screwed into place. That firewall will never pull out! You are right about the top standoff being a tight fit. I simply notched the original box so the base of the standoff could extend past the edge. It presented no problem. Update...I've added pictures. You'll notice that I have used a metal plate intended to cover an open electrical box between the wooden firewall and my standoffs. (I painted it black.) It has a thin rubber material behind it against the firewall.
