RE: 4th boat build. Mini-Kaze Stepboat
Looking at the pictures I see you are going with a push pull rudder system . You are not worried about cable buckle on hard turns ? Maybe a pull pull would be better .

Thats pretty heavy stuff .60 and .32 . I'm sure you ment .060 and .032 (1/16" and 1/32" ) . You do some nice work . Keep em coming .

RE: Gasoline Engines
You can sometimes get them (weed whackers) for free if you watch for them in the trash or laying idle in somebodys grage because they don't run . Usually the only reason they don"t run is the muffler is plugged wirh oil and carbon or they just need a tuneup .

Very nice build .I like what you did with the rudder hook up . I hadn't seen it done that way before .

RE: .40-.46 build plans
What you are seeing is the angle . If you were to make that line 90* to the deck and not shorten it it would be longer than 2" . The formers are 2" high .

RE: what size boat
Make the deck about 2 inches wider than the prop you are going to use . When you scale the plans up let the other dimensions come out as they may . It usually ends up that the lenght is a little more than twice the width .

RE: motor mount
One thing you might want to look at when you make another mount is that the holes are not oversize and that they are lined up with the motor holes . It also might help to add a doubler under the motor to give it a little more meat . The angle you are using is not usually very hard and any movement will elongate the holes and put more stress on the mount . A prop doesn't have to be out of balance much to cause problems .

RE: What's better? SINGLE or DOUBLE rudder for a gasser
I don't know what your set up is But it makes a big difference if you have a pull - pull linkage and a servo big enough to handle the load . The gasser I have was like that . It would turn good when the servo pulled but would bend the push rod when it pushed . I added the second rod and all was good . My boat has a single rudder .

I know back a few years before electronic ignition the engines with points used to do funny things to radios . We had to shield the plug wires and all sorts of stuff to try to make it work .

RE: Rcbif's 31cc Ryobi Gasser Airboat Project
Go to the hardware store and get some 1/16" or 1/8" thick by 1/2" wide aluminum . It is easy to form and can be put together with small bolts and nuts . All you would need is a drill and a hacksaw or metal shears and some sand paper or emery cloth to clean up the sharp edges .

RE: Rcbif's 31cc Ryobi Gasser Airboat Project
Find you an old luan door and carefully strip the skins off from it . I've made a few boats out of that wood . Its not as strong as birch ply but it is about 1/8" thick and some of it has good grain . And the skins are as good or better than the packing wood you are using . Just a thought .

RE: hydraulic controls
I was at the race and also saw the system in action and was interrested in it . He said the fluid he was using is water to test it . So antifreeze could be used in place of the water . Now saying that one don't know what the antifreeze would do to the hydraulic cylinders . Seems that if its used in cooling systems it would work in the cylinders .

RE: My first build. Need some ideas.
You might want to look at the distance between the muffler stacks and the deck . Might be close enough to blister the finish .

I have a e-flite 480 motor and with a 9X4.5 prop it puts out a little over 3lbs of thrust . The boat I have it on runs great on land but the design don't work on water .

Check out your glow plug as it may be a 2 volt plug and not a 1 1/2 volt . If you put to much juice into it it will burn out . Nice looking ole motor .

The boat in the avatar is made from corroplast using the Cajun Gator plans and I made my own motor mount . It has a HP .49 Four stroke motor on it .

RE: Airboat like Alligator Tours but EP available?
There are some ways to find the power to weight ratio . You can mount your motor to a digital fish scale and measure how much thrust you get and then build your boat as close as you can to that weight . Thrust is 3lbs . Boat should weigh around 3lbs for a 1 to 1 ratio . I built a thrust machine that mounts on a digital scale . If you go up to the electric motor or electric plane forums and dig around there is all kinds of information on this subject . This machine is also a good way to find the correct prop for your motor and which prop will draw the least amount of amps for the most thrust . As a side note I don't have a Gator Tours boat . The boat I have is my own design and was only making reference to how powerful the outrunner motors are and the weight is less .

RE: Airboat like Alligator Tours but EP available?
The motor I have is the E-flite Park 480 Brushless Motor. It is 1020Kv ( rpms per volt ) . I use a 45 amp ESC . The motor only draws around 28- 30 amps max and about 22 amps continious . A little bigger ESC doesn't hurt . The battery is a E-flite 15c 3200 mah LiPo 11.1 volts .

RE: Airboat like Alligator Tours but EP available?
I don't think your concern about weight of batteries is going to effect the performance because the newer out runner motors are very powerful . When scratch building of course you want to build as lite as possible but still as strong as well . I have a small out runner that puts out over 3 lbs. of thrust . I'm running on a 11.1 volt 20C LiPo . It uses a 9X6 prop . I am using a 45amp esc but it doesn't draw that many amps . It is rated to be about the same as a .30 size nitro engine . If you can come up with a 1:1 power to weight ratio it will scream .
