Doing some paint work on those HL tanks really improve their appearance. Looks far less toy like now. The Red Army is on the move Comrade!

I have one of these, mint in the original box. Mine came with only one figure. Attached is a photo I took of it shortly after I bought it. I bought it 7 years ago.. Never painted on it, it appears just as it came from 21st Century.

I just repainted them. I just cut the lower torso on one cute blonde and she is now the driver of the M-50. I have 4 more but running out of helmets.
Thanks for the info, you've inspired me lol. Now I will have a source for my future KV's crew. Technically, I believe there were Russian tanks crewed by women during WWII. So, it wouldn't be stretching the truth too much. I could do a Summer tank, with the girls in their summer outfits :) Those ALL male German tankers would be lining up their Tigers to be knocked out by them, and liking it too LOL. I'm afraid the Nazi tankers just don't have this crew option historically available to them.. Too bad haha. Liking Russian or Israeli armor does have its bonuses!
ORIGINAL: pattoncommander Very nice work. Both look great. I have assigned both my Shermans to צהל 'שרל Israel IDF. The former Tammy 105 is now a late 1960s M-51 and my new VVSS Sherman has become a late 50's M-50. Still have some touchup/cleanup, adding some periscopes and weathering, but they are coming alomng OK, The rear turret bussle counterweights were a real bear. In true Israel tradition, I have assigned appropriately attired female tankers to both. Great for morale. Israeli Shermans are very interesting. I was amazed at how many variations were made on so many A1,A2,A3,A4 and composite chassis. It seems there were never two exactly the same. "I did it all for Sally"... I can only hope Sally appreciates my sacrifice, at least somewhat.. That is a nice looking Sherman. Maybe it's the Sally element, not sure, but I like it. I especially like that frontal-side view shot. I don't know much about Shermans, I just know the difference between the VVSS and HVSS suspensions, maybe the guns, but that is about it. Is yours sporting the 105mm? Did you guys know that Michael Knight rescued a girl who was locked inside a HVSS Sherman that was sitting on an ordinance testing range in one of the first season episodes of Knight Rider (fall of 1982). The plan was to use the Sherman for target practice while the girl was helplessly trapped inside it. Michael and KITT save the day and the girl of course. I happened to see it the other night on the Retro TV network. There in the show was this HVSS Sherman tank. I'm sure some of you would be able to tell exactly what model it was, but I have no idea.

RE: KV -85 tank
ORIGINAL: Panther G The KV-85 used the hull of the KV-1S. There are slight differences.
Yep. So did the SU-152. All three used the late style road wheels and return rollers, which neither the Tamiya or HL tanks come with. No hull machine gun on the KV-85 and other differences. A KV-1S model would be a better starting point for either conversion than the early KV-1. If I was going to manufacture these KV Russian conversions, I would make a KV-1S conversion first (including the late wheels & rollers in die cast metal), next a 1942 rounded edge, fully cast turret with the longer ZiS-5 76mm gun (same gun as used on the KV-1S, instead of the shorter F-32 that is on the Tamiya/HL kits), then follow with an SU-152 and KV-85 conversion kit. But that's me.

RE: T-34 Idler Wheel adjuster
ORIGINAL: Panther F I've often wondered that question too, maybe because the T34 wasn't considered a real attempt and too toy like with the electronics.
This past summer I asked Impact why they don't make TUs and metal tracks for the T34. They said it is not cost effective to make TUs and metal tracks for "cheap toy tanks". Followed by, "when Tamiya produces a T34 F/O kit, we will make TUs and metal tracks for it, but not until then." Yet they make metal tracks for the HL Panzer III, isn't that a cheap toy tank? Maybe they consider the Wasan/Torro T34 to be even more toyish and too cheap to fool around with. When it comes to the stock T34 drivetrain at least, I think their probably right.

My plans to bring a new Allied heavy tank to the October battle have been canceled due to financial problems. Please ignore anything that I said about Tamiya or their KV tank, for I am not the one who discovered or initially passed judgement on the prior stated idler issue. I would rather not be connected in any way to it, I made a mistake mentioning it when it was not my place to make a public announcement about it on this forum. It was late at night and I was tired and upset when I made my prior post. Steve

RE: Real Tiger, Panters in a Motion Picture!!
Evaluation playtime at Haustenbeck. I found this Jagdtiger w/ Porsche suspension video (posted by the same guy) even more interesting. The engine is SO quiet.. It sounds absolutely nothing like the Tamiya Tigers. It is like a stealth tank compared to the Bovington Afrika Tiger I (which is always very loud in videos). This Jagdtiger must have had really good mufflers on the exhaust. If it weren't for the track clanking and the occasional squeeks you could hardly hear this thing creeping up on you. This tank is quiet as a mouse! Even squeeks like one too. Maybe they just were barely giving it the throttle, but I didn't think a JagdT would move unless the engine worked pretty hard. I don't often see Tiger II photos or videos with zimmerit on the side skirts like this one has. If RC tanks were this quiet I don't think you'd ever disturb your neighbors with them.

RE: SFX6 sound module in Tamiya Sherman
So, you disconnect the MF engine sound line going to the speaker, and replace that with the SFX6 output? I still don't have one these tanks and don't know yet when or if I will have one.. Is is correct to say that you need a tank with a Tamiya DMD T-xx control unit AND an MF-xx unit to go along with the SFX6? Instead of outputting the MF-xx audio to the speaker, your disconnecting the MF audio output to the speaker and connecting the SFX6 audio output to the speaker instead. Does the MF unit do anything other than produce audio? Which unit activates the turret motor drives the MF or the T? Which unit plugs into the TBU, the MF or the T? It appears that a pair of DMD T and MF units plus an SFX6 is more expensive than a full El-Mod setup. Other than CD quality audio (which El-Mod does not have), would there be any other reason to get the SFX6 over an El-Mod? Could the SFX6 produce turret traverse and elevation sounds? I guessing damaged engine sounds and stuff like that, is not going to work with the SFX6?

RE: SFX6 sound module in Tamiya Sherman
What you did with the SFX6 sound module sounds pretty good to me. Especially if you managed to get the sounds from that Sherman youtube clip. That clip has unwanted crowd and announcer noise in the background (though I did not listen to it in its entirety). What are you using to control the movement of the tank? Is it still using the Tamiya DMD T-04 (i think that is the number) control unit or something else? What is triggering the playback of the sounds and what "unit/device" are you using to trigger the sounds and active the motors in the tank? So I guess the main thing that people would want to know about this SFX6, is what control options are available to pair up with this sound module? Can it interface with Tamiya DMD T units, or what other units if anything else? The other issue, as you already noted, is finding good audio sources, especially those with CD sound quality which may be difficult to come across depending upon what kind of tank you want to install the sound module inside.

That's what can happen when drunken consummation is performed.. Maybe the unmarried mother Panther continued to drink during her pregnancy and the baby Panzer was born somewhat deformed, missing a cupola and episcopes. At least it has a driver's visor in the front and a monocular gunsight, so it has some vision capabilites. Judging by its appearence, Mom must have been a Panther A.

This is what I think, and you did ask for thoughts on the matter. Get a female Panther model, and a male Panzer IV model together. Put on a little mood music, dim the lights, and leave them alone with a good supply of your best available München bier... Approximately nine months later, you will have a new born model that will probably look a lot like that resin conversion kit you posted a photo of :)

RE: SU-152 on the horizon
The SU-152 was made using the KV-1S chassis. The KV-1S chassis has a completely different rear deck (the deck slopes downward and is not flat like the 1940 model) and upper rear end is shaped differently. If El-Mod is only supplying replacement pieces for the rear portion of the deck, this will require that surgery (cutting and reshaping) be performed by the kit purchaser to the stock KV-1 rear deck and sides (this surgery would be required on either the HL or Tamiya models). The simplest and most straight forward conversion would be to supply an entire complete upper hull replacement. It just is not as simple as slapping a six-sided extension on the upper hull with a new mantlet and gun barrel. Although in that case you'd be replacing half the model, so it would probably cost even more money than El-Mod is asking for what they are producing. Surgery may also be required on the upper front, depending upon how El-Mod has made this kit of theirs. As noted above, there is no supplemental armor on the SU-152 or the KV-1S. I almost forgot to add that the SU-152 and KV-1S have different road wheels and return rollers. They both used the later style wheels, so all 18 wheel sets would need to be replaced in addition to the upper hull work to perform a correct conversion. I don't see that El-Mod is supplying the late wheels with their kit..

RE: Tamiya KV1 speed adjustment
ORIGINAL: projbud Hello I've read in the post above that this modification takes a lot of energy. But I'd like to say that when you drive in normal speed works only tamiyas gears. Another gear is stop. And vice versa. When you drive slow speed works only second gears (HL in my tanks). In speed drive tamiyas engines is only rotate (Â not powered) . Power suply is changed when you change speed. Regards
Pawel, This is me Steve! I was making some assumptions based upon the photos you sent me. I wasn't going to post them unless I got your permission to do so first. It seemed to me like it would increase the current draw when the slow speed gearboxes are engaged. Again, I was summarizing what I noted from studying the photos, I may have concluded incorrectly about some details of the set up. Like for example, I am not sure how your servo is actually moving the second gearboxes forward and aft. What are your thoughts about using a Li-poly battery or something like that which might fit inside the hull instead of having to mount the battery externally on the engine deck. Also, if it is okay with you, I can post the photos that you sent me on the forum here? Steve
