RE: Thorpe F-20 build
Terry congrats on the maiden. It is nice to see someone actually build and have success with their project. I'm sure you'll sort out the issues quickly and have it flying on rails! I should have payed attention to Mikes text saying the field was virtually abandoned yesterday. Bob

RE: Turbine Heli Qualification
ORIGINAL: causeitflies
ORIGINAL: pitts3 I took my turbine rotorcraft up at IRCHA. All you need is a 600 or 700 size helicopter. You will then do a set of manuvers they make you do and 2 autos. Once you do, two people have to sign off on it. A turbine director and another person that carries a turbine waiver too. Pretty easy to do. It's nice to have on the AMA card.
Hey pitts3, One of the guys that signed you off was a rotary wing CD right, not just a turbine CD?
Yes one must be a rotary wing turbine CD

RE: NightHawks RC Club
ORIGINAL: rc4flying This was my first jet event and I had a good time in all that great weather. . No pressures being a new to jets. Do you guys think you can have the runway widened before the next jet event. I have no trouble flying my big birds at your previous events, but landing the jet it looked narrow. LOL !!! Also, those 2 Nighthawk skid marks rubbed right out. No damage.
Joe you're Tuono looks awesome. Welcome to the jet ranks. You flew it like the seasoned pro that you are.

RE: Thorpe F-20 build
ORIGINAL: tlj125 Had to switch over to digital servos and make new plywood servo trays. The analog servo on the retract would move when the receiver was turned on causing the gear to collapse. Put a digital servo in there and the problem went away. Also noticed the analog servos would not rotate as smoothly as the digital servos. The were more jumpy and twitchy. So I switched to JR 821 servos and they work fine. Soldered together the control cables and hooked everything up. Tested with the radio. Have a little bit more play in the rudder than I would like. The ailerons and elevator are not too bad. Just a little bit more play than if linked direct. This appears to be due to the gap in the tubes with the cables. For some reason the rudder has more play in it. Probably because it is the longest run of tube and has more bends in it as it snakes through the bulkheads. Getting about 1/8'' or so play. Would like to know what others got. The cables are not sticky at all. Just concerned about the rudder at this point.
Terry it looks like your rudder cable comes up out of the fuselage at a pretty sharp angle. Then you're bending it with your horn placement. Robart makes a horn with a ball built into it and Hamilton Hobbies stocks them. I think if you change the horn position to match the angle of the cable you'll eliminate the slop to an acceptable amount. http://www.robart.com/products/58-ball-control-horns Looking forward to seeing your new jet fly so let know when you plan to do the maiden flight.
