I really like the Yokohama geolanders for bashing and general use. For dirt track I like snake eyes or bow ties. for rims I run rims from www.rc-parts.com about 98% of the time. the traxxas dish rims are good too, but I tend to crack them.

RE: -Official Traxxas JATO Thread-
you would be more successfull with changing the CB or Spur gear for more top speed. I do not know if anyone is making the internal gears... other than stock... as far as more speed... the jato is plenty fast. for off road you do not want any faster. for on road sure you can make it faster.. but for me right around the 60mph mark it gets too much air under the front end and will flip right over. granted I am not set up for on-road speed runs. I have a nuteral/general set up in my 3.3 basher and a race set up on my RB V.12 Jato...

RE: -Official Traxxas JATO Thread-
The Jato is a good truck. Most all STs have the same driving style. The Jato is very over powered, so you will have to let off the gas to turn. Most all STs are like that... You will need to replace the stock tires for any type of off road action. With the right set up the Jato can be capable on a track. When you ask about changing gears.... it is very easy. the CB and spur are just like changing on any other nitro RC.

I keep my batteries in the rear and I do not have a wheelie problem. It is all in your set up. I keep them in the rear because that is what I am use to... I like the extra weight back there to help the transitions in the turns... I would move it to the middle if I was setting up a "street truck" or an oval racer.

Back in the day when I had just gotten a traxxas rustler I thought the same thing... Then a few sets of rims later I went back to plastic. From my experience the aluminum hex will just eat your rims. You may be running the nut too tight ... or too loose...

RE: -Official Traxxas JATO Thread-
The RPM front bumper is great. It can take a lot of abuse. It also has a front skid plade designed in to it. I have found it gives a good bit more protection vs the stock. I think the Hex is a 12mm. But I could be wrong. Why do you want aluminum? I have never had an issue with the plastic units. But I also run aluminum rims from www.rc-parts.com about 97% of the time... On the pipe... I run the Traxxas Dual Chamber Resonator with my RB V.12 it really brings the motors to life in the mid to high rpms. I have also tested it with the 2.5 and 3.3 it worked just as good with them. My favorite pipe was one from Novarossi. But that pipe is now out of production... I use it on my basher... the vantage pipes are killer looking, but I have never tried one.

you need to run diff lube in the differental. I personaly run 50K from OFNA for general use and bashing. In my race jato I run 5K to 7K depending on the track. You can down load exploded views of the Jato off of the traxxas website. You will take apart the whole rear end to get to the diff and then take it apart to put in the fluid. That should get you on the right path. If you need more info just let us know...

want to come back to drifting
hey all... I was here a while back ago and I had a TC3 set up for drifting... well I am back to living around a bunch of concrete so I want to come back to drifting. I want to build something brushless that has enough power to actually break out and drift on hard rubber tires. I never really got the feel for running with PVC made tires. Are there any hard rubber drift spec tires out there yet??? If not I was just going to try and find the hardest compound I could. Are these what I am looking for? - HPI Super Drift Tire 26mm Radial A Type I am looking to build the power with either the mamba max 5500 system or the Novak ss4300. For the chassis I am leaning towards the following: Tamiya Subaru Impreza WRC '05 TT-01D Drift Spec Kit HPI Sprint 2 Drift RTR w/Toyota Trueno Body Yokomo D1 Drift Kit w/Apex FD3S RX-7 Body Elec They are the main ones I know about. Any advice would be greatly appricated.

RE: -Official Traxxas JATO Thread-
As for the single or dual chamber being better ... well it is up to you. where do you want the power added? single chamber is best for low end. dual chamber adds in the mid to high RPM. I prefer the dual since the jato is so much over powered on the low end anyway. I use a pull start on my basher with the 3.3 my other jato uses a RB V.12 - it is bump start only. personaly I dont like the EZ start or any of that stuff. just one more battery to charge... IMO...

the body mounts are the same on the 2.5 and the 3.3 the only difference are in the motor, pipe and a few other small things. tighten the slipper and it will incrrease the ability to pull a wheelie. loosen it up and you will get a more controled take off. just do not loosen it all the way.

I always keep the battery in the rear. I like how it transitions the turns with it back there. Also myself I keep a really soft rear shock set up. But I do not "air it out" over the big jumps either. I run 5K to 7K diff lube in the diff pending the condition of the dirt at the track.

The person I bought my jato from said that and now i have a 2.5r tranny and 3.3 engine. I wanted to know if you all think the jato 3.3 could handle a 1/4 mile full throttle, or is that to far to be going that hard on the engine.
