RE: Project SiNiST3R Jato Ground Up Build
Surprisingly for the cost of a few bits for a Savage I built most of it. Everythings around 20 bucks with a few big tickets, hingpins n turn buckles, HS gears and Dual Disk with CF calipers were the biggest cost so far. Engine, pipe & electronics will be the largest cost overall, but only because of the options Im going with, STD Jato electronics, engine & pipe can all be had fairly cheap in comparison. I tell yah 10th scale is easier on the wallet then 8th. No surprised, just feels good to have the Duckets go much further. Ive spent much more on busted Savage bits then on the Project so far. Not a Special RC, no crazy custom fabricated parts, just a project for me to enjoy. Im getting many evil grins out of my RTR based Jato, just love going for session after session with it, and having fun over the summer with it. Good Times. """"""""""Low-Speed Fuel Mixture Adjustment The low-speed mixture is always set after the high-speed needle is correctly adjusted. The low-speed mixture is set using the “pinch test: 1. Once the engine is warm, do several high-speed runs to confirm that the high-speed needle is set correctly. 2. Bring the vehicle in and pinch closed the fuel line going into the carburetor (use the engine shut-off clamp). The engine should run for 2-3 seconds, speed up, and then shut off. 3. If the engine runs longer than 3 seconds, then lean the low-speed needle 1/16 turn, make several more high-speed runs, and retest. 4. If the engine shuts off immediately without speeding up, then richen the low-speed needle 1/8 turn, make several more high-speed runs, and retest. When the low-speed needle is set correctly, the engine’s throttle response should be very quick, even to the point of making it difficult to keep Jato from doing a wheelie when you accelerate!""""""

RE: Jato 3.3 Idle problem
ORIGINAL: RockerTom Thanks for your replies.  Here is a picture of the carb. I think the gap is ok. I am going to try to post a video today of the issue. <a href=''http://s1056.photobucket.com/albums/t363/guitar3451/'' target=''_blank''> http://s1056.photobucket.com/albums/t363/guitar3451/
That does look fine, but at this point do a pinch test. If you could post a video of the pinch test with an up to temp engine it be really helpful. The 3.3 carb is touchy, very small window for optimum performance with a wide "running' window. The pinch test at this point can reveal how the idle needs adjusting.

RE: Jato 3.3 Idle problem
ORIGINAL: GaryAH When it does return to low idle, after several seconds as you describe can it remain idling steady for at least 10-15 seconds or more? If so, have you tried pinching the fuel line after its idling for about 10 seconds to get an idea of the LSN setting? Aside from an air leak as others mentioned, it could be the LSN is set too lean. Possibly HSN as well. If your not familar with adjusting nitro engines i would suggest returning it to the shop that did the work and get them to make it right.
Hanging idle is a sign the idle gap too big & LSN on the rich side. When the carb closes the gap is too big causing a high idle, but the LSN set rich catches up and slows the idle speed down, known as a "hanging idle" To tune it out, we lean the LSN until it stays at a high idle, reducing the gap as we go to slow the idle speed until it drops to the set idle speed as soon as the carb closes, but a lil bit on the rich side is not a bad thing. Or you can adjust the carb gap to .5 to .7mm right away and work on the needles from there. Just pop off the air filter and look at the idle gap, big gab = rich LSN with a hanging idle. Pinch test is a good idea and should be done to tune the LSN, but looking at the carb gap will give you an idea before even starting the engine.

Hanging idle is a sign the idle gap too big & LSN on the rich side. Use the TRX guide to clean out the engine with wd-40 before your attemp. Its in the manual.

Nova is a Monster, every one I see is nutso. Not going with your Mod ZR30X or RB mods engine you have on the way. Man you must be stacking up on modified engines by now and going for more. BTW, you said you had a RBModified 28 ordered, what engine did you get modified by RBMods? Is it a Picco? With a LRP, & Nova a Mod Picco would make a great trio to compare performance. Id love to see the 3 swapped in the same truck for direct comparisons, are you planning to test all 3 then run the fastest one? I have my money on the Nova.

RE: -Official Traxxas JATO Thread-
Lil Photoshoot with my RTR Jato 3.3 Im making this one a Budget Build. Upgrading only when needed, using the least aftermarket parts & extracting the most out of the 3.3. I have a Ground Up Jato being built that getting no expense spared, modifying/hoping up everything to Show Truck level, but its going to get driven. Okay then. This explains quite a bit, holly crap the Speen NT looks to be a flop, no wonder there are not many videos on the tube, and nobody with a Speed NT cared to post in on the Jato vs Speed NT thread. Not to mention this 5 page dead official thread filled with ambitions and failed parts.... The Speed NT is a flop Losi would rather forget about. Seems as though even the enthusiest for it have gotten rid of this RC...... Those.are some serious issues. This looks like one of Losi's worst.... I have to laugh at those who said this peice of junk is higher quality then a Jato 3.3. Got to be kidding me........

Have fun with it. Find out what you want to hop up if you want to. Jato dont need much, and with RMP arms your pretty set already. If you dont have an rpm front bumper grab one. She does come with plastic wheelie bar wheels, the TRX wheels with alloy, bearings & rubber make whelies more stable. The 7075 T6 chassis is another great TRX option worth considering. If you run into brake trouble with STD brakes the HR dual disk kit should remedy it. Run it till something breaks then upgrade that, but dont be surprised if that takes a while

RE: Losi Speed NT vs Traxxas Jato 3.3
Wow finaly something out of this kid on topic... Interesting points you bring up. The mud guards come off on the Jato and the 7075 T6 chassis is better then the Losi chassis. Having REMOVEABLE mud guards make the Jato more versitile. TRX CVDs are a cheap factory upgrade, although on the 3rd gallon with stock plastic shaft doing mass amounts of wheelies and speeds over 60mph... HS gears up in my ground up build, this with TRX CVD holds down Big Block power..... Sorry but Speed NT has plastic gears just like the jato with a idler prone to failure without even Jumping the RC, Jato has weak gear stock but usually hold together until power in increased or landing big jumps. The HS gears and CVD kit solves that problem. Like you upgrading the Junk off That rattle bucket. The EZ start is a breeze, too bad its complicated for you, I have many roto start trucks and IMO ez start is easier, but 10$ recoil starter ends that. RPM arms go on all my RC so again, not important, but as you can see from the barrel role in my video the std arms take abuse. I think your talking BS the jato std arms are heavier as if you weighed them, smells like BS, but irrelevent as rpm arms are going on either anyways. Hmmm nothing you said mention petformance. The 3.3 is only finiky for the uncapable, a screemer in the right hands ;) Nice points and your opinion is welcome, dont be mad I dissagree. Very nice DSM you have there. Yup that would take me if done up right. Not from factory thought, it would be a race... If built up and the boost turned up, I would need some boost. Hmmm you do know there is a MKII boosted VR6 with 4motion running 700+ hp on a dyno? Videos on youtube. We can go on and on but really, was it nessessary for you to contribute to the BS? I would of thought petty BS beneth you, but not if Im envolved eh.

Maybe, what about the 3.4 hmmm maybe so. 3 gallons in on mine Im fine, most likely an issue compounded by user error, but hard to say. What I can say is its performance is impressive and surprise quite a few. So far mine runs great, but it is a RTR engine, I dont expect an OS21, but you can bet an OS21 is going in my ground up build...

RE: Losi Speed NT vs Traxxas Jato 3.3
Since Ive been building up a custom Jato, Im trying to get the most out of the RTR with the least amount of aftermarket or upgraded parts. The Jato comes with a Short intake sitting under the lid, and a very ristrictive exhaust pipe. Tune would vary from lid on to off, and felt very choked up. The 3.3 revs high but doesnt pull rpm fast, well as fast as the engine felt like it should. Yeah CAI = cold air intake The CAI uses a Revo angled intake system to relocate the filter outside the cab into direct air flow. The stinger on the exhaust was too narrow and choking up the engine, I took a 7/32 drill bit and drilled out the stinger. Rain on and off so Ive only been out for a few sessions, definit added power is a nice jump from off the line to the top. Instant throttle responce and stable tune. Tune lid on to off dont change, and shes pulling RPMs like she should although a better carb will improve performance even more, Im considering dropping in a Carb off the OS18TZ if I can grab one used off fleabay cheap. Its no ERCM pipe, those come with stingers that wont choke out the engine Im sure but the combo improves performance and uncork some HP.

RE: Jato stalls.
Tune is off, but hard to say rich or lean video will help, but try resetting the needles, then make 2 1/8 clockwise adjustments to the high speed needle, see if that helps. Also insure your servo links work corect ie when you apply the brakes it doesnt close the carb more then when your fingers off the trigger. When you reset your needles reset the carb gap at the same time. Post up how that goes.

Finished the top plate. I took a while and worked alot on it. I sprayed 2 full cans of silver alluminum paint, sanding down between coats and giving a few days between cans. A few days drying, a little smoothing out the surface then I hit it with the Lacquer emptying the can with multiple coats. Came out great, I painted the covers too even though Im going to swap them for the Exo Carbon TRX options. Yeah lol it is a Death Trap, and your Mods does change things a bit. As LL mentioned most of those 70's Rattle Buckets wouldnt stand a chance with less power and double the weight. Ohh, I do my own work too ;) & the ONLY thing I outsourced was splicing the wiring harness for the 98 VR6 with the 91 harness. Do the math, Im only running about 240hp but with 890kilos, gives me a 1:8.2 power to weight ratio vs about what 1600 kilos and 375hp? Thats about a 1:9.6 power to weight ratio... You would need 440hp to get Pinned in your seat like my lil VeeDub pinns me in my Recaros........

Jato has a 1 spd mod to be race legal, Speed NT does not, so in fact the losi cant be raced while the Jato can ;) Ive not seen a single Speed NT doing anything impressive. A few cool slow mo vids on the Tube, but thats about it... Buddy 890kilos and VR6 engine swap chipped and with all the goodies. I ran 12.9 on Sport tires, not even drag radials or slicks. 2.2 0-60f is slow, but et and trap speed are sick (shallow staging) with D radial probably a 1.8 0-60f or even faster with slicks.... Right on. To each their own. Ive been enjoying my Traxxas Truck quite a bit & its been the least frustrating most enjoyable RC in my fleet. If anybody has a problem with that, its a personal problem. If "Losi is a better brand then Traxxas take it up in a thread on that subject, this thread is not about Losi as a brand, but the Speed NT as a RC compared to a Jato as an RC, I love my Losi RCs, but I also love my Jato. If anybody has some points on the subject that they feel make the Speed NT a better choice, I welcome oposing oppinions, just no stupidity bashing brands with nothing more then some "nananana boo boo" baby BS, or Ill reach through the monitor and slap a fool.
