Mtroniks G2 Sport problems
Hi All, I just got my son his brithday present from fleabay and already problems. The item is a Durango DEX210 RTR and came with the mtroniks g2 sport combo - 12T motor and ESC. When I connect the 6500mah 2S lipo, turn on the futaba attack I get red and green LEDs on the ESC, then a single low tone beep from the ESC and then the leds go out and there is no responce from the Tx Rx and model. The servo emits a hum. What should I be looking for please ? Thanks. Ron.

Stock shaft is 2 piece yes. Remove the prop, undo the dog, release the coupler flex shaft screw and pull it out.

Cheers SDZ, This all happened with one of those. I dont remember if the FS was set though. Pretty sure it was but as I say - the repair boat is the crash test dummy. I have a new hull once its sorted. If I remember rightly, I had a savox digital servo in that was suspected as being instrumental in the runaway episodes but hey. I had runaway episodes before the savox too.

Hi Dave, good to hear ya ! Thats a sweet little TS I have to say. If you remember I still have to figure out my runaway issues but once thats done I may well follow suit. Lovely little pond you have there. If mine was half as nice I'd be there all that more often. Hey has the water ingress issue been solved yet ? Hope all well you you and yours too and HNY of course. Ron.

Quick one just to let you lot know I'm still lurking ! Added a few grammes of epoxy and glass to my recovered wreck and reinstalled the stuffing tube last night. Just need to remount the motor mount and set her up again and she is ready to be the crash test dummy again !

Indeed but they all have those pesky 2.0mm shafts ;) Have you sorted your water ingress Bass ? I heat that a piece of silicone tube over the stuffing tube and making contact with the flex is a good way.

That sponson will look fine once sprayed. The pic does not do it justice. I gotta keep busy at the moment so might work on her some more soon sdz. The new hull arrived today too but not using it till the runaway is sorted.

Bolt 1 is indeed better than before in terms of strength and maybe shape too. Bolt 2 will also be repaired when I get the time. I have some more pressing issues at the moment and might not be able to be on here as much as I have of late but we shall see. I'll get back onto bearings as a celebration if and when my more pressing issues are sorted. I have to fix the runaway issue too of course but I think we have a handle on that. Its all been bonded and reglassed including transom sponson and all. She is pre paint now...

RE: Advice on Servo's BEC and runaway boat required.
Guys, Please excuse me but I never meant to insight this kind of behaviour with my OP. I just need a bit of help here. Can we keep on topic ? I appreciate both of your inputs. My motor did not burn, but my ESC has tested dead for the BEC under load and this must have been taken out by the servo blowing. I do need to make sure this does not happen again. Regarding connectors - I use only the best. ETTI 4.5 mm on motor and ESC. These connectors are huge by comparison to the stock stuff that you get on motors and offer very little resistance. Regarding a fuse, the draw on the ESC will vary so my fuse would have to be rated for the ESC max draw I would imagine ? This is a boat too guys, and a little one at that. Not alot of space in the hull. No one I have encountered yet uses a fuse, I dont know why maybe its because the ESC can handle 45A continuous and 60A for 10 seconds in burst. I think its the burst on the ESC / Lipos that makes the fuse difficult to use.

RE: Advice on Servo's BEC and runaway boat required.
OK, guys but it might be a little while. The boat was in pieces after the crash and I am in the process of rebuilding her. When done I will get a meter and revisit the thread. Incidentally, the BEC on the ETTI ESC has been blown by this servo issue to, it will not deliver voltage on load.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Well the BEC on the 45A is only 5V 2A. The draw from the servo will have blown the BEC for sure so I just wont use a digi any more. I have a hull coming and I have managed to restore bolt 1 to better than former glory.

Hi Rich, The loads applied by holding it would be far greater than when running properly. Prhaps a datalogger would be better but they are real expensive.

Thanks again but one question. Is it representative to use a meter on a bench with a boat ? The loads in water would be hard to reproduce.

RE: Advice on Servo's BEC and runaway boat required.
Thank you both for your great replies. It does hit the boot but doesn't stick. Not sure what you mean . - The rod from the servo goes through a hole which incorporates rubber bellows - boot. I have been puzzling about this for some time as ever since I got into this hobby it has been nothing but trouble and I was about to get my hat and make an exit, if it wasn't for the friends I have made on the forum, I would have done just that. Great, I now have a reason for the behaviour of the boat. The failsafe was not set, nor were the servo endpoints. From what I can gather a number of people run this boat custom and no mention has really been made of endpoints so I thought it would be ok to run without setting them. Fact is I have now had at least 2 crashes that have resulted in a sunken boat, some dangerous and disgusting swims to retrieve them followed by hours of epoxy and glass work only for it to happen again. back to the topic at hand. On this occasion it was the didgital servo and it only took 3 minutes for things to begin going wrong and I now completely accept that the draw from a digital servo that stalls or can;t track to its endpoint has resulted in the BEC going down on the ESC and hence the out of control crash. But.... I've run with 2065 traxxas before which have lasted alot longer however on one or two occasions the boat suffered a simillar fate only those times the servo's seemed to work afterwards leaving me stumped. 2 of these have now failed completely but do not heat up or cause the ESC to heat up. They simply dont function. The Rx signal LED is fine the throttle works but the servo just doesnt. I thought initially that the Tx had stopped functioning only to find that a new Tx Rx pair behaved in the same manner eliminating the Tx and Rx. So my next question is.....could the load drawn by the analogue 2065's have caused my previous crashes and all my issues stem from not having set up both the failsafe and the endpoints ? In addition to the failed servo's I have 2 puffed 2200 40C turningys that puffed only after 4 cycles / runs lending credance to this theory. Its funny though, the nano techs I had before seemed to last alot longer. I had it on good accord that the earlier crashes were more likely to be due to using 2.4ghz flysky on the water....jamming the signal from spray / wave reflections. My gut feeling it its more likely the servo's as I now have 3 failed ones. Whats is your opinion please ? Regarding wattmeters etc. The hull I use is micro hydro and as such there is no space for meters. I can only measure draw on the bench with a conventional fluke multimeter. But I have not one so as yet. Many many thanks to you. Your help is invaluble. R.

Ahh ok I'm with you now. Maybe I misunderstood the trim operation and still am - if I trim F10 / 20 / 30 - does that reduce or increase throttle ?

sdz - gotcha more or less but can you ellaborate , Do you mean to set the throttle trim to F10 / 20 ? mine is at F30. At F30 the ESC wont respond to it so I take it back to 0, programme and then go back to F30.

RE: HK Small Bolt Hydro same as HOTR
Cheers sdz. The only reason I backed out was that it was on backorder. The other thing is that its not waterproof. That can be ammended. The ETTI is truely waterproof and to me and my sinking boats is a help. Now I've just been on the phone with astec and he has imparted some of his knowledge very kindly. Digital servo's draw shed loads of current when the endpoints have not been adjusted and they cant track to position. This leads to burnt FETs in the servo and loss of signal to the Rx = crash. For this reson I am going back to analogue, and I will also adjust my endpoints for them too. Doing it in this way I wont need a UBEC especially on 2S. Now for the reason behind loss of control on my previous analogue - 2.4ghz and water. In certain wave configurations from the water the signal can be lost leading to a crash if the failsafe has not been activated like with mine. It would be interesting to know if Bass had his set ? Another thing about 2.4 is water spray blocking the signal. I am not sure how AFHDS on the flysky copes with this but in the world of spektrum its a dual antenna Rx which I dont beleive we can get on the flysky units. So I'll enable my failsafes and take to the water again once the build is complete and I have my ESC back. Anyway - lets see how it goes with failsafe activated ! One thing you were right about sdz - I did need that extra epoxy and glass ! I may well get that turnigy esc when they have em back in stock. Regards. R.

I wish we could monitor this. theory at the moment is that we appear to be overloading our ESC BEC The navy 45 BEC is only 2Amp. Quite easy to overload with a digi servo that cant hit full throw ? sdz - do you use these alot ? on your bolt at all ?
