RE: Club Enya
ORIGINAL: SJN Just bought my second Enya 4 stroke[:)] a 60-4C model S7001 The seller advertised it as brand new. But unfortunatly, it has been started loooooong time ago, and run once or twice maybe judging from te exhaust and parts, then just left there without afterrun oil or anything [:@] But it is still in great shape, and it will be running well soon after a check and cleanup. [;)]
I bought a 46-4C some time back and I knew it was used. I wound-up installing Frank Bowman piston rings and replaced all the bearings (four) and it's fine now. Your bearings may be fine but inspect them for corrosion. If you see ANY rust on any of them I would replace them all. I have a good source for you for the ring and everything PM me if you like at walberts5586@att.net. You bought a nice engine and it's worth a-little TLC. Cheers, Bill

RE: Club Enya
To all those who own an Enya .46 4-C. I decided to replace all the bearings in my .46 today. It was a fairly easy task to get three of the four bearings out of the cases with a-little heat. The last bearing, the tiny little bearing in the back camshaft housing that supports the cam drive gear shaft, seemed impossible. What do you grab on to to pull it out? What worked pretty nicely was heating the camshaft housing on my gas stove burner. I had to get it so hot that the residual oil left on the case began to smoke. Four wacks on my kitchen counter top and the little bearing fell out. Now to call RC Bearings tomorrow. Cheers, Bill

RE: enya 46-4c
Hi Guys, i bought a used Enya .46 4-C in 12/08. I tore the engine down and found that the ring had a .011" end gap. That would be an acceptable ring end gap for my 30 c.i. Honda single cylinder motorcycle but unacceptable for a .46 c.i. engine. Today I gapped and installed a Frank Bowman ring. It was superior in every way to the Enya ring. For one thing it's .001" thicker than the Enya ring. I installed a Bowman ring in my new, never a drop of fuel run through it, Enya 1.55. The stock ring had a ring end gap of .0095 - new. It now has an end gap of .0015" anyway the point of this post is to talk about bearings. I have a bad bearing which I didn't catch on my first tear-down in 2008. I then checked the main bearings and they seemed a-bit "gritty" so I decided to replace all four of the bearings. I noted the littly tiny bearing supporting the camshaft drive gear in the back of the camshaft housing on my first tear-down. I thought to myself then how in the heck do you get that little devil out of there. Here's what I did today. I placed the housing over a burner of my kitchen gas stove with the burner on fairly low heat. I had to heat the housing to the point that the residual oil on and in the housing started to smoke. At that pinit I took the housing off the burner with a pot holder and banged the housing on my kitchen counter top. It took about four solid wacks and the little bearing fell out. Now I'm off to RC Brearings to replace all four. Thought you guys might find this info useful. Cheers, Bill

RE: Painting with rustoleum
ORIGINAL: James c harrell I am building a .40 sized sport plane and have it painted with Rustoleum. Finish came out good, after alot of wet sanding and all, and I am happy with it. I want to get the decals and trim on it and clear coat over it with rustoleum clear. I looked on the web and have seen some horror stories about clear and don't want to screw it up so I will ask you guys here about it. Any tips that I should know before I shoot it? By the way, both the the base and the clear are enamel. The base is gloss protective enamel and the clear I am thinking of is the Crystal clear enamel.
Be VERY VERY careful here. This past February I built a nice Kyosho Sea Wind RC sailboat. I used Rustoleum plastic primer then top coats of Rustoleum auto enamel. Then I sprayed on #248644 Gloss Clear Acrylic Enamel. The clear coat DESTROYED my base coats and you would swear I applied Zip Strip paint remover on it. Rustoleum refunded my purchase price for the paint but nobody paid me fot the time I had to spend to repaint my expensive boat. I've included picture before and after. My boat is beautiful and I will continue to use Rustoleum paint but I will not clear coat it. In fairness to Rustoleum, perhaps if I had waited a few months to clear coat I might not have had a problem. Their auto finish is excellent for "rattle can" paint. Just be careful. Cheers, Bill
ORIGINAL: AmishWarlord I have the VT-240 almost ready to break in today. I still need to get some more nuts and bolts to bolt down the fuel/power box and install the fuel regulator to get fuel up to those carbs. Looks like a great day to break in the engine and make a video of it! Here are some photos of the VT-240 on the engine stand.
I hate to use this term but OMG you are one talented Dude!
ORIGINAL: earlwb Many digital cameras with a decent auto-flash setup are capable of doing it. It is having the flash go off when it takes the picture. I am using a Sony 8 megapixel camera form those pics. But my Olympus 14 megapixel camera does it too, as well as my old Pentax digital camera. I would not be surprised if my iPhone could do it too. RE: Club Enya
ORIGINAL: wed-subawu I just received a package from Enya Direct in Japan, with some accessories and upgrades some of you might be interested in... I have an older 46 4-stroke in a Sig Kadet LT40 that powers it well, but I was having problems getting a good idle and transition. I know that engine is not known for a really low idle, but I couldn't seem to get the idle mixture lean enough, even with the airbleed screw all the way out on the GC-type carb. I'm running Morgan Omega 10%, and I had tried the Enya #3 and OS F-type plugs without much difference between them. So I decided to try the TN carb and and muffler for the current 53 4-stroke. The TN carb is intended to be used with muffler pressure, so that's why I got it, too. The new muffler is a little bigger, wth an internal baffle and a pressure tap. They are both drop-in replacements, with no dificulties at all installing them. I also ordered a couple of the new Enya 4-stroke plugs. The combination of all 3 made a for a marked improvement. I was able to get a steady 2500rpm idle and 9000rpm top end on a Graupner 12x6 prop. I could likely get a little more on the top end, but I didn't feel the need to push it. Transition was clean and quick, too. Anyone with an older 46 might want to consider one or more of these upgrades. I'd start wth the new 4-stroke plug first... One more thing I got was an aluminum prop nut for the R120/R155. One thing not apparent on Enya's website is that the aluminum nut fits right over the original prop nut and washers that come with the engine, so it's effectively a locking nut. Looks spiffy, too... John
This is a very interesting post. I have a .46 4C that I have taken apart, cleaned but have never run. The ring end gap is .011" which is rediculous. I'm not going to run it until I install Bowman rings that I am going to gap myself. I also have a new 1.55 and am installing Bowman rings before that ever runs. I forwarded your post to my E-mail and printed it. Thanks for shareing this with us. Cheers, Bill

Now if I was as handy as AmishWarlord on building test stands, I would even make a YouTube video of the test run. I did get to hear Bill Jensen test run it over the phone though. Not quite like being there. I was planning on putting it in an RC Guys Agwagon that I have still in the box, but if they are going for $1500 now I will just buy a DLE engine for the Agwagon. RE: Club Enya
ORIGINAL: mike109 G'day Enya Lovers I flew my latest Enya engine today. Enya 36 4c AAC. I gave it some running at home to establish settings and get it running well then put it in my new Sig LT-25 trainer and headed off to the field. Wind straight down the strip from the west but not too strong. Started the engine and away we went. The model had not been flown before and needed a few clicks of down elevator (normal for any Kadet) and she was flying perfectly. I have an 11 x 6 prop on the Enya and am running my usual 10% nitro, 5% castor, 15% Klotz and 70% methanol brew. Engine is set slightly rich but is running very well and idling well too. It was easy to start right out of the box. The little 36 is a very sweet running engine and I suspect it will be quite powerful for its size once it is given some more running but already it is a favourite. The Kadet LT-25 is also a favourite and has been for some time. Small enough to fit in the vehicle (wing span 63 inches), light so it flies slowly but big enough to be easily visible. Mine is a ''stealth trainer''. It is olive drab on top and yellow underneath. Why? Because I had some Solatex left over from other covering jobs. Tomorrow it will get some British WWII markings for fun. Perhaps some photos then. Cheers Mike in Oz
Sure sounds like a great combination Mike. Hmmm, a Royal Airforce Kadet - cool. RE: Club Enya
ORIGINAL: earlwb Many years ago, we were racing the smaller 20 size airboats, and it was always a challenge to select the best prop to use on them. If you went with a bigger prop, you got more thrust for better acceleration, but a smaller higher pitch prop would give you more speed but weaker acceleration. So it made it interesting depending on how we setup the race course that day.
It works the same way with a submursed prop (water prop) on an outboard or inboard. Bill

I think it could be a glitch because like I said, I watched the video after I uploaded it this evening.. As far as using the USA site, I went to YouTube.com and uploaded it to my account. This is the link it gave me. This happened once before where I uploaded a video and it didnt work. When I tried to re-upload the same video, it told me it was already uploaded so I went to the video manager in my account and the link had changed for some reason. It should be ready in about 10 minutes at this link, hopefully... http://youtu.be/fANKIgoe65Q Very strange indeed. My apologies. I will remove the previous dead link.
Thanks for all the pictures of your hull under construction. Nice work. I love the sound of that little Enya. Sounds like your have the low speed to high speed transition nailed. As far as the porpoiseing thing goes could you add trim tabs at the trailing edge of your hull bottom or change the angle of your crankshaft in relation to your hull or simply add weight to the front of your hull? It's not porpoising badly in your last video. All would cost some speed but it would save you hacking-up a beautiful hull to move the engine forward. On an outboard motor (engine) boat changing the angle of the prop shaft in relation to the hull bottom kills porpoiseing. Just a thought. Cheers, Bill
