K170 and Lightning is a great combo, I have a classic lightning, you'll love it, and we'll definitely keep you up dated with new kero start features. Barry
Hi Barry, As i plan on clearing my workbench for the upcoming project - my CARF classic lightning (clearing from a JL hawk with a K-80E :)) in the next couple of weeks, i want to proceed with the selection of the turbine for it. you mentioned that you fly a classic lightning, do you fly it with a K-170? if so, a flight video would be great. Hi Zi-Chun Lin, Great video man, can you share some details regarding the AUW, thrust, speed and overall feeling of the L-39... thanks.

RE: KingTech K-80
Kingtech K-80e DIY Upgrade Kit Kingtech are offering a very nice upgrade kit for the K-80e. Parts are: new front cover. new internal PCB with data connector - this PCB have the hall sensor on it and a quick connection to the thermal probe new wiring. the upgrade kit combines both the RPM cable and thermal probe cable on a single, telephone like, cable with a pre-soldered connector that plugs into the xicoy FADAC. the DIY process is very easy (as long as you know what you are doing), i converted my brad new K-80 like so: 1. remove the front cover by unscrewing the surrounding hex screws. 2. for better accessibility, de-solder the starter motor wiring so the front cover will come off completely. 3. remove the old hall sensor PCB by unscrewing the two hex screws. 4. bolt the new PCB into place, u need to use a shorter 3mm bolts for it, the original ones are too long. 5. the new front cover didnt had an appropriate hole for the thermocoupler wire, so i drilled a 4mm hole to the new front cover and used one of the rubber grommets that used to attached the old hall sensor PCB. 6. inset the thermocoupler wire into the hole through the grommet, shorten it to the appropriate length and connect it to the easy connector on the new PCB (red wire goes to the + marking). 7. close the new front cover (have a special cut to it for the connector) with all the surrounding hex screws. thats it, the turbine is converted. now there are only two lines running from the ECU to the turbine - one for the starter and glow plug, with MPX connector (the green one) and one for the RPM and thermal probe - a telephone like connector. it saves the mess of two wires, it looks neater and easier to run the wires. sorry for the low quality pictures, were taken with my lame-a$$ cellphone. thanks to Lior "i3dm" Zahavi for the help.

RE: KingTech K-80
ORIGINAL: BaldEagel As far as I understand from Gaspar on the JetsMunt's its the ancilleries that are the problem not the FADAC, Kero start will not work at that low a voltage and three cell is too much for the valves and starter motor, this may be the case with the KingTech. Mike
well, if the FADAC will work with 6.6V, and the valves and starter have no problem with that voltage level, and there is no kerostart on this engine... i guess it will work but will have to have a slight tweak to the parameters (mainly glow plug value).

RE: KingTech K-80
Hi, did anyone tried operating the xicoy FADAC with 2cell A123 batteries? although the manual states that the minimum voltage is 7.2V, i'm trying to avoid working with LiPo batteries. On both my RAM turbines, there is no problem working it from a 6.6V supply (2s A123). thanks.

RE: Thrust to Weight Ratios
In my opinion, it depends on what are you intentions from this specific plane. you can fly at a very scale manner with a thrust to weight ratio of 0.5, you can fly the bageeses out of a sport jet that have a thrust to weight of more that 1... as an example, i scratch built a jet (1/8 IAI LAVI) that weights approximately 22lbs T/O weight (with fuel) powered by a 12lbs turbine with a pipe on a hot humid day. although it doesnt have unlimited verticals, it flys very good and fast. so, bottom line is - depends on the plane and the way you want to fly it.

RE: A123 vs LiFe Help
I converted all my planes to A123, two cells, that i bought separately and soldered together with a balance port, gives a voltage of 6.6V - no regulators needed, simply connect it to the receiver and there you go. one of the main advantages of A123 is the durability and safeness of these cells, it allows me to locate the batteries at such a way that i dont need to take them out of the plane for charging. another advantage that i found (due to the very stable voltage) is with my RAM500 turbines, which are very sensitive to battery voltage - just plugged a 2 cells A123 , set the minimal voltage down to 6.3V, and the turbine never missed a start ever since. no burnt plugs, no false starts.

RE: KingTech K-170 Debut
Barry, currently, i dont own a K-170 but trying to evaluate the market for an engine for my upcoming project (CARF lightning). as for now, the K-170 looks very promising, especially from the value-for-money point of view. hopefully, i will be able to decide and raise the funds for it shortly. looking forward for further updates on it. Thanks.

RE: JETCAT P100
well, kerostart is a luxury, but ... once you try one, its hard to go back to gas start. i have a few turbines, some old some new... lately I've installed a kerostart to my P-70 and all i can say is that once you find yourself standing up, looking at the plane while it ramp up, you really dont want to mess around with those gas bottles anymore. in the size and weight of our jets, larger batteries (how large? 100grams more?) is not of any consideration. there is one drawback that kerostart have - it doesnt teach you how to properly operate the turbine. a flick of a switch and the turbine is running...

Are Kingtech going to implant a kero-start for the K-170 ? I have the K-80 and i was a bit disappointed hearing that there will be no kero-start for it. it seems that the k-170 is a great engine and is sure been considered for my next project, just wondered if KT are trying to extend their engine's overall package to meet the ever rising bar in the turbine market. RE: Ram 750 setup problem
reverse your throttle channel on your transmitter. if the throttle is not reversed (i.e idle command has a higher pulse width than full throttle), the ECU cant calculate the dynamic range between the two values.
