RE: 1\3 Ron Weiss Fokker D8 build
Yeah, looks like a 3 piece set of foam cores sheeted out. Hard to tell. I was looking forward to the wing build. Watching the fuse build was Awesome and gave me several ideas….I need help LOL I have put wood all the way around each of the cabane wires and need to make them a little tougher. I was thinking about wrapping them with Sig’s Koverall and Dope. Can you tell me if this will work or not? The lead edge is balsa and will hanger rash quickly. I have never used anything but Monokote or Ultracote coverings in the past. I plan on using Solartex, Lozengetex on the fuse and Solortex olive drab on the wing. Any input out there will be thankful.

RE: 1\3 Ron Weiss Fokker D8 build
Wondering where I can find something pre-bent that will fit over 5/32nd wire to fasten the wing to the cabane on my D8… On the Ronn Wiess plans there is a detail for bending some .060 SH metal steel to form this clip… I am not able to bend this up. I found a machine shop and took the detail drawing to them. A few days later I got a call and they said that they were unable to bend this for me. Now they are going to try again but in thinner steel. Is there a company out there that makes something like this???? Thanks Harry

Still have a few technical issues to work out with mounting of the wing before I can sheet the wing out.

RE: 1\3 Ron Weiss Fokker D8 build
I was wondering how high the bottom of your wing is from the top of the aircraft? Mine is about 3&1/2in. the plans show about 3&1/4 is this very critical? Will this affect flight performance or is this just a scale location? thanks Harry

RE: 1\3 Ron Weiss Fokker D8 build
well this is what my plane looks like right now..Its plume embarrassing after looking at what you have been able to do on the same plans… But for my first real scratch build I’m pretty satisfied with the out come. I believe she will be a good flying plane

These wheels were scratch built by someone other than me, I bought them off EBay… they are 9 inches tall and the rubber is heater hose. The wheels are covered in fabric.

RE: 1\3 Ron Weiss Fokker D8 build
Man this is an awesome build; I really enjoy watching the progress. I am building the same plane on the Ronn Wiess plans but not going all out scale like this. I am trying to scale it up to the best of my building skills. The only planes I have ever scratch built have been, Big Stick type planes this is a little bit of a challenge for me. I have a couple of questions for you. I saw the fuel tank and the reply that you may use a G-62. How are you going to mount any gas motor on this? I see that the cowling in only about 4 to 4 & ½ inches deep. Just curious my fire wall is 2 & ½ inches behind the cowling ring….. May I ask you for your advice on the wing incidence? At Nick Ziroli web page were the plans supposable come from it states that the wing has +4 @ the root…. Looks like on my plans the rear cabane is higher than the front, even when I measure off the top of the plane, it measures 4&7/8 @ the CG & 5 ¼ @ the trailing edge. I’m ready to build up my cabane wirers now but I need advise before I continue. Any information on this or anything about this plane will be greatly appreciated… Thanks Harry

Well I was able to complete the sub wing…. Man that was some serious work getting everything to line up properly. I don’t think the fuse will be as hard as the gear was.

RE: 1/3 scale FOKKER D8
BTW excellent job on the D8. I’m new to the whole forum deal need to figure out how to load pis. I see that you fully sheeted your wing I was going to sheet mine as well. Question, is it necessary to sheet the bottom or will the open bay and cap strips do?

Do you mean the wing incidence? It looks OK, there seam to be a lot of + lift incidence in the stab but I think its ok also

1/3 scale FOKKER D8
Anyone have anything to say about the Ron Weiss 1/3 scale drawings? There is nothing about engine thrust, right or down. After studding the planes and using long strait edges and squares I was able to determine down thrust on the plans. Is this correct? I have a short kit and its lazar cut but it builds up with out down thrust....WTH, Also I've never heard of a plane without right thrust. What’s the deal????? I have two sets of these plans, both Ron Weiss but one of them came from Nick Ziroli Any feedback about this build will greatly be appreciated.

no ignition battery
Does anyone out there have anything to say about the WRC Wike R/C Products IBEF Ignition Battery Eliminating they are selling on Troy Built Model site? If this thing works how is it that I don’t see any at the field? Looks like you can do away with one of your battery’s. This has to be good if it works

RE: Double Vision
Hay fellow flyrs can any budy tell me how to ballance the D/V. I got this plane from a freind and he could not tell me. I read that you ballance this plane with no wings on it. Is this true. What about the wing tubes, or bottom wing. Can some one give me some input on this. I got the plane ready to fly but need to know the C/G first thanks. Rebel Flyr
