RE: Thanx for getting me junkmail
ORIGINAL: rgburrill Kid, you must feel pretty special to be targetted by AMA for these spams.  I feel left out and ignored.
You are not alone, a lot of us were left out.

KE, Please tell us exactly what you are hopping to achieve with this thread. Maybe if it was understood better something might come of it.

RE: Why are we using NiMh...really?
ORIGINAL: TheWoodCrafter Why does anyone use NiXX type batteries today/ LiPo have so much more power/weight that they makes NiXX obsolete.
And if you forget an leave your transmitter on they are toast. They must be charged on a balancing charger to get maximum life. If Eneloops don't fill your Tx need you need another hobby.

RE: How to convert an ATX power supply to rc use
Connect them all in parallel. This should give you a better output voltage. Collectively they will draw about 2 amps which is 10 watts total.

RE: Charging with a Wall Wart
ORIGINAL: Charlie P. Sure.  I have done it for years. The NiCad will be less tolerant of a stepped and interrupted charge.  I have my NiMH set for a 1-1/2 hr charge every day at 50 or 100 mAh to keep them ''floated'' per a tip from Red Scholefield's excellent website. <a href=''http://www.hangtimes.com/redsbatteryclinic.html''>http

RE: MA article on tip thrown glider declage timer.
ORIGINAL: Hossfly Now I would like much if the FF folks would explain the Discus Launch for Hand Launch Gliders. I have requested both FF folks of AMA and FM to do so. No Results, other than not interested. [8|] NEVER GIVE UP A CHANCE TO TAKE A JAB AT THE AMA, but if you really need to know, there is always Google. Discus Launch Glider From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A Discus Launch Glider (DLG) is a radio controlled model sailplane launched using a 'discus launch' in which the glider is held by a wingtip and rotated around the flyer by hand before release. Using this method of launching the average flier can achieve launch heights of greater than 140 feet (43 m), with the better throwers exceeding 200-foot (61 m) high launches. The discus method of hand launching has now in effect replaced the older 'javelin style' launch, where a hand launched model glider would be launched over-arm, like a javelin would be thrown. The discus launch is far easier, more efficient and less physically demanding than the javelin launch. Although some DLG designs utilise a traditional built-up construction using balsa wood and covering film, most DLG models are generally now constructed from composite materials, in the form of Kevlar, carbon fibre and glass fibre. Fuselages are moulded in Kevlar/carbon and epoxy, with wings either moulded as a hollow composite shell, or vacuum bagged over a wire-cut foam core. Most DLG models use aileron, rudder and elevator control, with the ailerons also being used as camber changing flaps for different modes of flight and also as airbrakes for landing. A modern DLG model weighs approximately 9 or 10 ounces (255-283 grams) and has sophisticated aerodynamics. Many pilots use computer radio transmitters with full mixing and flight mode capabilities in order to optimise performance and set up the models for flight as near perfectly as possible. DLG models are used for both general fun/sport flying and also for contest flying.

RE: Stringless Wonder article in the mag?
ORIGINAL: Jim Thomerson I have tried to search the archives without success. I was looking for one of my articles for which I have forgotten the exact date. I emailed a complaint to headquarters last week, but have had no response. Nevermind! Just tried it again, and it worked fine.
I had the same problem, sometimes it worked great, others nada. Maybe something in the way I entered the search terms.

RE: Stringless Wonder article in the mag?
ORIGINAL: Michael R. The RC Stringless Wonder feature article by Joe Haas in MA appeared as a construction project and plan set. If you access the AMA plans service you'll find a brief description. Purchase of the plan set includes a photo copy of the article pages. The project is a flat-foam tribute to the original design that included an all foam scale and 150% enlarged version. Both used RC systems from the ParkZone Ember and P-51 respectively. Have fun!
ORIGINAL: H5487 Probably a couple of years ago now, an article appeared in Model Aviation on how to convert Peck Polymers' ''Stringless Wonder'' from FF rubber band to RC electric power. I bought the kit and now I can't find the article. Does anyone know which issue it appeared in? Thanks, Harvey
Have you tried to find it in the Model Aviation digital archives? This is in the members only section of the AMA web site.

RE: IMAA Constitution Under Assult
ORIGINAL: Gremlin Castle The founders and contributors to the growth and success of IMAA in the early days have either passed on or been passed by. Those currently at the helm seem not to realize that the dynamic of large scale modeling has changed and is flying over the horizon while they are still on the hardstand trying to get permission to taxi.
Those currently at the helm have been there many years, either as a Director or Assistant Director. Comparing 2008 IMAA Personnel Directory to the Officers, District Directors, and Assistant Directors you will see the same faces as presently shown on the IMAA's web page.

RE: IMAA Constitution Under Assult
ORIGINAL: Hossfly There was a time that IMAA events accepted short memberships, collectable at the event, like AMA does for contests/events. Why did they quit? They never told me!
The membership that the IMAA sold at events was for a regular membership as I remember. I don't recall either the AMA or IMAA offering "short" memberships, just their normal memberships. There was/is? an AMA provision for event memberships for foreign nationals attending an event. IMAA put themselves in the box by NOT allowing non-members to fly at their events. All other SIGs do not have this restriction, hence they get out of the class C restricted catatgory that provides no protection.

RE: IMAA Constitution Under Assult
ORIGINAL: BarracudaHockey I've noticed that the number of ''Giant Scale'' events that require IMAA to fly have declined as well, including Nall. I wonder how many people joined just to fly at Nall in previous years that won't renew because it wasn't required this year?
The IMAA appears to be in their death throws because it was the only SIG that excluded anyone that was not an IMAA member from their events. Clubs wisely dropped the IMAA requirement to fly at their Giant Scale events for financial reasons mostly. Then they seem to have eliminated the IMAA forum that use to be on the their web site. I guess things have reached a state where they no longer allow non-members to view minutes of their meetings to get some flavor of what they are doing, membership numbers, etc. In a day when you can shake a giant scale plane out of the box and fly it the same week one has to wonder if the IMAA has any revelance in the modeling community.

Since three reported the problem in different parts of the country on different brousers could the problem be a glitch on the RCU end? This could degenerate into a real technical discussion.[;)]

RE: How I see this forum
ORIGINAL: H5487 We all have our favorite areas within RCU so simply spending the majority of one's time in the AMA section doesn't necessarily mean anything other than that's where that particular person's interest lies. The telling point would be the attitude of those posts. If that person posts nothing but hateful, negative, and argumentative posts, the rest of us would logically wonder if this person has a grudge against the AMA or if they're simply a miserable person and AMA is a convenient outlet for their anguish. RE: How I see this forum
ORIGINAL: combatpigg How I see this forum....hmmmm. I wish I had all the time that I've SPENT here back. Once it's spent, you can never get it back. The AMA is no better off because of any time that I've spent here and neither are any of the folks who I've debated/agreed with about anything. There's so much else I'd like to accomplish before my time is up.
You are not wasting too much time on the AMA forum, 10% of your posts there means you have other modeling interests. RE: How I see this forum
ORIGINAL: PilotFighter I must say that I never gave much thought to my AMA membership before stumbling across this forum. The AMA was my insurance company and nothing more. This forum has caused me to think of the AMA in a new way. However, I will never be as fascinated/obsessed by the AMA as some of the main characters here seem to be. A few seem to have obsessions about the subject boardering on maladies. (On which side of the boarder I haven't decided.) The discussions are sometimes interesting, but are more often ill spirited and not particularly informative. There are always exceptions to the rule, and a few of the regulars are beacons of light posting informative data. Identifying to good sources of information and blocking out the others will transform this forum for you.
If you want an interesting exercise just click on the number of posts and individual has made. Just divide the AMA forum posts by the total number and you will see where the individual is focused. Some of the more prominent reformers have over 50% of their posts on the AMA forum. From a quick look the record holder has 65%.
