RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
Those shots are of the turbine version when it was tore down for its service. The firewall you are seeing is the one at the forward cabane struts. I'll try to get a similar shot of the radial version and one of the paneled turbo version from the same angle. As far as my builds... I haven't done anything else to them yet. I've got a few other projects to get out of the way before I start on the large sections. Got a couple to finish for some flying buddies and a couple for me. Trying to get the fleet all ready for the start of the good flying season. Also I've started playing around with the airbrush some.

Ok just measured the full scale. It is 74" from the front of the forward cabane to the face of the cowl.
ORIGINAL: anothercrashpilot Yes, I was wanting to see if the front end kept the same Taper out to the prop as the Fuselage. This shot appears that it Does . One thing else that Bugs me a bit is the Firewall on the Fitzgerald plan. .. . . . It is ROUND! ........... I Believe it should be a Bit OVAL and Flatter on the Bottom . ........... I thought I saw it that way on one of your Previous Pics of the Radial version , That was basically a Frame .
Do you mean shaped like this? LOL

Crash - Didn't you want a side shot of the front of the turbine version? Here's the best I could get from the side. Hope that will help you out!
ORIGINAL: MARVINGARDENS Hello Everyone. I've enjoyed reading the forum and finally joined. My question is whether there currently any plans for sale, kits, or ARF for the Thrush Commander? Many thanks. Bob
Bob, I'm sorry to say that there are currently no plans, kits, ARFs, etc. for the Thrush Commander. I did start drawing up a set of plans a few years ago but never finished. This was for a 108" span model. Recently I've been thinking about drawing up one in 1/12 scale for electric. So maybe I'll get the bug to start back on the large one.

Just to let everyone know that may be interested. Pat Tritle has just released a short kit for a 1/12 scale Ag Cat. I've got one on the way as I type. Just something to cobble together and fly until I can get the big one finished. http://www.patscustom-models.com/index.html

RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
Crash - I had planned to just use 1/16 balsa to sheet the plane. Then apply .75 oz. glass cloth over that. That will give me a good surface to paint and simulate some of the individual panels. Then I plan to also use the aluminum HVAC tape and thin aluminum (soda can) to simulate other panels and hatches. I'll lighten things up were I can, but I know I'll need the nose weight. So there might not be too much to lighten. I need to take a look at the layout of the cabane struts and figure out a plan for those I guess. Maybe aluminum bar stock as you described with balsa to shape out. The hobby shop does sell some airfoil shaped aluminum tubes. Maybe some combination of all three design thoughts. The motor box needs more pondering. So far I'm going to do the turbine version. That will allow me to move the engine forward. So I shouldn't need as much weight to balance the plane. I'm thinking of building it as per plans but add some reinforcement for engine standoffs. Then just build the turbine cowl from there. That way if I change my mind I might be able to go to the radial version.[8|] Oh... I can't forget the hard points in the lower wings to mount spray bars to in the future![:D] [;)]

RE: Gruman Ag-Cat
I'm still thinking about all the struts and engine mounting. I'm leaning toward the turbine version at the moment. But may change my mind back to the radial. The entire plane will be sheeted and a layer of fiberglass except the tail feathers. The tail feathers will be covered in fabric. I'm leaning toward replicating my cousin's full scale since I can actually document and scale off the actual plane. Even though I don't plane to compete or even get all the details, I'd like to get the ones that stand out.
ORIGINAL: anothercrashpilot Timed Out ? ! ? ! ............... I Guess I need to TYPE FASTER ! ! !! ! Anyhow , RED, I Thought you were interested in doing a TURBO version ? ! .......... SOME ONE NEEDS to do one ! [sm=wink_smile.gif].... I Had HOPED to have done One of Each by now ! one Radial and One Turbo ! One of my Ideas I had Considered was to just extend the forward lines of the Radial PLANs untile they LOOKED right and then put a Big Twin cylinder up front and then COVERING the Cylinders and Spark plugs with the Dummy Turbo Exhaust pipes , Drilling alot of small holes on the front side for airflow and have it Vent out the PIPE ends ! ? .......... How's that ? ............. I DO like the front end of that Turbo Cat that You sent pics of awhile back . . . .
The 1/10 scale foam is going to be a turbo version. I haven't decided on if I want to go turbo or radial for the Fitzgerald AgCat yet. I love the look of the radial on the front. But I'd love to do the turbo version also. It may be easier to balance the turbo version with out needing a lot of extra weight. I'll decide which way to go later on. Either way the wings and tail will be modified the same.
ORIGINAL: anothercrashpilot Any one here building on another thread ? Anyone doing the Hanger 9 Pawnee ?
Once I get started on the AgCat I'll add to that thread. I have the 80 inch span Hanger 9 Pawnee. Almost have it ready to fly. Just need an engine first. I've been on the look out for a Saito .82 for it. Maybe I'll find one at an upcoming swap meet.

wow! Look what I just ran across! Another Ag Wagon ARF! http://www.hobbypeople.net/index.php/cessna-188-agwagon-60-90-arf-patriot-version.html Seems dusters are starting to pick up in popularity! Crash - I'll try to get a few pics up of the foam AgCat once I get a little bit more done to it. For the Fitzgerald AgCat I'm going to modify to plans to reflect the "B" versions with the extended wings and vertical stab.

RE: crop duster r/c
OK I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a short kit. But I'm having a time trying to decide which one to go with. So far I'm leaning toward the 55" Ag-Wagon or the 100" AT-502. But for the cost of the 100" AT-502 I could get both the 55" Ag-Wagon and the 40" AT-502. Team Duster 100" AT-502 http://www.teamduster.com/at502b100.html Pat Tritle 55" Ag-Wagon http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=910655 Pat Tritle 40" AT-502 http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1475597 Or I could just wait and finish the foam 1/10 scale Ag Cat that I'm currently working on. Or start the big Fitzgerald Ag Cat or the NZAP 1/4 scale Ag-Wagon. So many choices... too little time and money![:'(]
ORIGINAL: outacontrol41 From days forgotten....
'bout like this thread! LOL I finally got some plans for the Floyd Fitzgerald Ag Cat! Now to find the time to actually start building it. Now to decide if I want to build the radial or turbo prop version. I know I want to use the constant chord wingtips like my cousin's turbo version. But the look of the radial is just aww inspiring! How about everyone else's Ag Cat's? Any new ones flying?

RE: Hangar 9 40 Size Piper Pawnee!!!
After wanting this plane for a few years now I finally picked one up from the LHS this past weekend. Now I've got to figure out if I want to go ahead and use the O.S. .91 4 stroke that I have on hand or wait until I come across a good price for a Saito .82 4 stroke. I really want to use the Saito to power the plane but I don't know if I'll have the patience to wait! LOL
ORIGINAL: anothercrashpilot Hey, RED ! Didn't you post something awhile back about a MUD DUCK ? [sm=50_50.gif] I have Also been checking out the AgriDuck lately and though about the smaller 3-5 cylinder Glow radials for it , It Actually looks more like a TURBO version and conidered putting some large dummy Exhaust stacks on it . . . . .IE . . a TURBO DUCK ! ! ! ! Another thought is to bash it and lower the horizontal stab and ADDING a TOP wing to make a Bi-Plane . I Think a Radial on that would look pretty neat ! ! !. Just not sure what to call IT ! ! !! ! ! ................... ? ? AgriDuCat ? ? ? [sm=confused_smile.gif] My MIND has been going nonstop about planes , I bet there's barely a Day that goes by without my kits on my mind . I have my RC Mag subscriptions to keep me going ...........................................
Yep! I've got the plans for the 110" AgriDuck. I haven't gotten around to building it yet. I plan to lower the horizontal stab and change the shape to make it look a Pawnee or maybe some other duster. Speaking of Pawnee's; I purchased the Hanger 9 Pawnee 40 this past weekend. The owner of the hobby shop made me an offer I couldn't refuse! Speaking of AgCat's; I just took a bunch of pics of my cousins AgCat. It was in many pieces for inspection and a tail modification. The turbine was out for it's 300 hr inspection. So I've got a lot of pics of various parts of the plane.
