RE: pull start for airplanes?
I recall some small motors coming what I think was called a Quikstart Spring. It was a spring behind the prop that you pulled forward to engage, wound backwards and let go. Terry

RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
Hi Volkert Have built a couple of these (and have another in box waiting for assembly). Mine have flown OK with the motor mounted on the firewall with no side or down thrust. Think most have mounted this way. As far as aligning I ignored the marks mounted the fuse vertical (fixed it to the back of a chair and shuffled the motor and mount around until aligned with the cowl. I then carefully removed the cowl and marked up Terry

RE: The Bosses Vulcan
Back when I was living in the UK I worked for a pipeline company and for a while was working just (and I mean just) across the road from RAF Waddington. The Vulcans used to taxi just across from where we were working and spool up before starting their take off run. Awesome, you could just about feel the ground shake. The Vulcan was also used as a test bed for the Concord's Olympus engines, with one slung under the bomb bay. All in all a very special aircraft. Terry

RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread
Gave mine an outing just over a week ago. Still tries to nose over on takeoff and landing but I'm learning to manage this. Flies nicely so don't want to change too much. Got a good landing in progressively adding elevator once on the ground to keep the tail down. Approach with flaps down was very benign, almost floating in. Was up for a second flight but found that the motor (Laser 150) was loose. Had a bad feeeling something was badly wrong but when I took the cowl off it was just the motor mount screws come loose. Resassembled with a generous dose of Loctite, something I have never had the need for on a glow motor before. Got to get to sticking those plastic bits on sometime! Terry

RE: Choice - To much of a good thing!
A 46AX in a Boomerang would be hard to beat. I have one (had a few 46FXs before) and it starts reliably and runs very well. Thunder Tiger PRO46 would be good too. Terry

RE: Choice - To much of a good thing!
Hi Robert The Seagull Boomerang is very popular over here in Oz. I have one that I bought when I had aspirations to do an instructor course (a new job put that on hold!) with a Saito 62 in it. I have taken a couple of noobs up with it and it seems to do the job very well. Doesn't knife edge too well though[>:] Terry

RE: Motor, battery, plane dilemma- rant
You are finding out that electric flight is EVIL. Toss your motors, ESCs, Lipos and all the rest of the eflight paraphenalia in the trash and get yourself a nice gasser, or if this is too radical, glow motor. For the sake of your sanity I beg you[:D][:D][:D] Terry

RE: Range Problems
If all the above fails you might try changing your Rx crystal (if you're not on 2.4). A bad crystal + vibration from a gasser could cause the symptoms you are seeing. Terry

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
Adrian, you are correct. After a successful test flight pilot Marcel Doret omitted to lower the landing gear! According to my source prior to surrender D520 were credited with a total of 147 kills for the loss of 85. After surrender the Vichy government restored production with aircraft finding their way to Italy, Rumania and Bulgaria. Later in the war some examples were recaptured and saw action again with free French forces. You are up! Terry

Not real good at this but I'll give it a shot! The 1938 test flight of this fighter might have gone better if one of the novel (for the time) features had been used! Terry

RE: HOW MANY BATTERIES DO I NEED?
Depends a lot on how long you want to fly for at a session. I have a couple of warbirds in the 10 - 12 pound range that I fly with 2000mAh, however none have electric retracts. My recommendation would be that you install a second battery just for the retracts. To set this up the positive of battery 2 goes to the positive of the retracts (via a switch). The negative from battery 2 goes to the negative on the retracts but also needs to be connected to the negative of battery 1 to give a common ground. The yellow signal lead from the receiver needs to connect as it does now. This is the basic connectivity, there are a couple of ways that you can realise this. PS, I am assuming that the motor is a glow, not electric. Terry

RE: i have an OS .40 la.
Best home I found for an LA40 was a Phoenix Models Robin. Low wing and twitchy as heck, but lots of fun to fly!!! Not quite what the OP is looking for I know! Had 2 or maybe it was three of these, unfortunately they don't make them any more or I'd buy another (I too have an LA40 lying around) Terry

Having unretired I only get to the field once or twice a week. On average take two planes and get three flights on each. At our field most of the flying gets done in the morning, being on the coast wind often gets up by midday. Terry

RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread
Most of the hard work is done on the repair. After a lot of fiddling using a template I now have a piece of balso to resheet the wing. Plan is to glass the new piece with .5 oz cloth before painting. I repaired a crack in the wheel well liner by taping the outside together, bridging the crack on the inside with the same .5oz cloth and dribbling thin CA onto it. Worked a treat and almost invisible from the other side. Terry

RE: KMP / YT FW-190 Build Thread
Jason OK, you got me. Insensitive and my memory is failing too [:D][:D][:D](wife would agree with this also, she would put it down to age!) I retired the composite 190 and put together one of the newer built up ones, as far as I recall I kept the CG at 130 despite what the manual said. I lost that one after about 10 good flights when it rolled in just after take off for reasons unknown. Had plenty of speed so don't think it was a torque roll. Have a new one ready for assembly once I get a few other things tidied up. Terry
