ORIGINAL: Sherv I might get one since the only other competitor in the 1/5th SC class (4wd) is the FS/Cen Model which costs an unreasonable 900 dollars. RE: redcat 1/6 scale pre orders avail now. low introductry prise
Wow, always nice to see active threads like this. I will do my best to describe where the Shredder fits into the Redcat line. First of all, Redcat does not try to follow what other RC companies do all the time. We would rather come out with vehicles that we think will attract the new customer or come out with a vehicle that does not already exist at all or does not exist at a certain price point. Of course there are also the mainstream vehicles that just by default we will carry such as a 1/10 nitro or 1/10 electric but what really excites me is to do something different or to price a vehicle far below what already exists. The Rampages are a good example of this. When we launched them a few years ago, there were a lot of naysayers about them. But.... we targeted the 1/5 scale gas market with a 4x4 at around half the price of the closest competitor when they first came out. It helped create a customer that would not have existed for us, because back then the going rate for a 1/5 scale was $850+ and that was for a 2WD Baja. We added the XT line last year and brought the barrier of entry for gas 4x4 even lower. We have sold many thousands of Rampages and we are sure we brought a lot of customers into the 1/5 gas market that could not afford it before. The 1/8 Electrics are a similar comparison. When we launched them, not only were we one of the few that had a 1/8 brushless vehicle but we surely were one that had a fully RTR vehicle for if not the lowest price on the market, it was damn close. So what is the Shredder? Well, to put it bluntly, to me it is one of the most fun vehicles we have. I simply fell in love with it when I first tested them. The size, durability and speed is what it is really all about. Not to fill a niche for Redcat, not to fill a void for a vehicle that does not already exist in the market, but instead to have a vehicle that due to its size and speed, is just a great fun time to drive and experience. Take the fun factor into account for those that have driven larger scale vehicles and add to the fact that it is under $500 and you have a vehicle that also answers the other questions above that Redcat looks for. I am not going to say this is the best vehicle since sliced bread because if it were, it would be $1000, but it is without a doubt a big, fast enough, durable enough inexpensive basher that most people will enjoy. Lastly for Xerxes.... 1. Thank you for whatever kind words you have said. 2. It is great when others come into our forum to help out others. 3. Your name is very cool. 4. For the love of GOD, each time I read your posts my brain hurts. Hope that helps. Darin

I am pretty sure Rob is using 3200 Lipo 20C batteries and we are not 100% sure what size batteries we will include as standard. If they end up being the 3200's my guess is probably only about 10 minutes but with 5000's probably more like 18-20 min. Darin

Vehicle Naming Contest (NEW) Posted May 5
We have a new vehicle coming in late August and we need your help with the name. The basics: The vehicle is 1/6 Scale Electric brushless RTR with 2 Lipo Batteries 3 styles: Buggy, Truggy, SC Under 9 LBS The goal is to find a name for the series of vehicles. For example we use the Rampage name for all 1/5 scale. We do not need a separate name for the truck, buggy or SC. Post the name that you feel fits best and feel free to post names as often as you like. The rules: 1. The winning name will be chosen by Redcat based on submissions in this forum thread. 2. The winner will receive one of the 1/6 scale vehicles free of charge if within the US or Canada. (Edit - Due to a few requests from other country posters, if winner is from outside of US or Canada, they can choose the 1/6 scale vehicle price, and pay shipping to their country or they can accept $300 via Paypal). 3. The contest ends on May 20 and we will choose a winner shortly thereafter. 4. Winner will receive the vehicle if within US or Canada when they arrive in late August. 5. You can reply to this thread with name submissions as often as you like. 6. If duplicate names are listed by more than one poster, the first one will be chosen based on earlier date. 7. Do not edit your post once you have submitted a name. Edited posts will be disqualified. 8. If by chance an acceptable name is not chosen by Redcat, we will randomly pick a name that will receive one of the vehicles. Some videos of the prototype SC version is below. Have fun and good luck. RE: Redcat needs a PRO driver to race their trucks...
ORIGINAL: Dale Gribble Good input, thanks. Do you intend to pursue more in-house designs moving forward? Perhaps my input appeared negative though it wasn't written to be that way. I just personally won't put Redcat Racing in the same bin as Traxxas or HPI until most if not all of your designs are in house and unique to Redcat Racing. I am entitled to my opinion, am I not? So to clarify, you import a large majority of your products based on OEM designs and you are proactive in the OEM product improvement process going so far as to pay for part molds to improve your products. To date, you have released one of your own in house custom designs. I don't see how that is negative, isn't it the truth? Based on your momentum which is certainly impressive, I would hope to see more Redcat designs and Redcat designed products moving forward. I hope to see Redcat Racing as a standalone 100% in house design RC company one day that can put the innovation and technology heat on other manufacturers.
I was simply pointing out that some things that you said were not correct. Of course you can have an opinion, but if statements are incorrect than I must point out where the errors are. To answer your other question about more in-house designs, the answer is yes. Our goal is to eventually design all vehicles ourselves and own our own factories. We are still a very young company compared to the bigger names. We also have never tried to compare ourselves to any other company. We do our thing and they do theirs. If by chance we overlap on some levels with other companies, than that is just fine too. The focus of Redcat has always been to offer an affordable vehicle for the beginner or intermediate buyer. RE: Redcat needs a PRO driver to race their trucks...
ORIGINAL: Dale Gribble Redcat Racing is not a manufacturer... They are an OEM reseller of Chinese designed and manufactured products branded for Redcat Racing. Please try and understand the difference. Traxxas is a manufacturer. You can't compare Redcat Racing and Traxxas because they are two entirely different business models. Traxxas designs their parts and cars/trucks and has end to end control over their designs. They can make all the changes and have all of the engineers, machines, tools, etc. needed by racers to have a competitive car/truck. Redcat has no engineers and is bound to the OEM manufacturer to make OEM parts for the models that they choose to import and sell in the US. Although a lot of pro or competition race trucks/buggies look relatively stock, they are actually highly customized from the factory. If you understand this you will understand it as one of the key reasons why Redcat cannot support a race program.
I don't mind when people make negative comments about our products as those comments help us in the long term to make things better... but when comments are made and they are not entirely true, than I must chime in. Redcat does employ an engineer that helps us to make changes and or make products from the ground up. The Ground Pounder is our own design for one, and numerous changes have occurred on other vehicles as well. We do not solely buy off the shelf vehicles from our factories but instead we review vehicles and make changes that we find are needed. Often times we pay for new molds to make these changes and incur a lot of expense which in turn ends up helping other companies similar to Redcat that buy from the same factories. For example, when we review a vehicle from one of our factories, we will give them a list of things we would like changed. Most of the time these changes are better than the original design and those changes trickle down to the other companies that buy from the same factories. To say that we can't do certain things and that we are bound to the parts offered by a manufacturer is incorrect. Just wanted to make that clear. In regards to pro racers working for Redcat, when we find our business model shifting from the beginner & intermediate user, than we will consider this as an option. It has never been ruled out and is still discussed often internally. Darin

RE: Please Redcat????........give us a steel spur for the Aftershock 8e.
ORIGINAL: Goatcrapp okay, now i'm confused. I bought my aftershock 8e second hand, (broken, but i already had a aftershock 3.5 that was wrecked so i could use it for parts for this new 8e, which was in better condition) - and it already had a bunch of mods - including a metal spur. I assumed it was a redcat hop up part, but apparently not. I'll see if i can find any branding stamps on it when i get home... Either way - good on redcat for making this happen :) Now - if only they'll release that sweet race version of the 8e. :P
The Aftershock 3.5 steel gear is a 39 tooth but for the Aftershock 8E, you should be using a 46 tooth gear for best performance. We have not had the 46 tooth steel gear for the Aftershock 8E and this is what was requested by original poster. While we are at it, we are getting the 49 tooth gear for the Earthquake 8E as well. RE: Apology owed......
ORIGINAL: SMOKEFAN Darin that sucks man, I am sorry you dont like what you have chosen to do for a living. Owning a business is not easy, but you can add me to one that loves what I do everyday. I would be interested to know why you dont like the business? Is it the import side of it, dealing with pissy customers, running day to day operations ECT? When is the next local bash session?????????
Nah it's really none of that. Love the day to day stuff, love making sure we deal with customers and make sure they get whatever problems they have resolved, love the import side as it lets me travel to China and elsewhere. I guess like I said in my post that sometimes I don't like what I am doing, and that is rare, but of course it happens, but I would rather be spending more time with the family, hanging out with friends or whatever. Owning a business takes a ton of time and I am the type that really never stops thinking about it. Always been that way I guess. I would just hate to see someone that hates their job, stay there and suffer. Glad you love yours as that is very very rare. Darin

RE: Apology owed......
I own the company and some days I don't want to come to work and there are even times that I just don't like everything about what I have to do. I wonder if anyone else feels that way about their job. Regarding pro racers at Redcat. There are some very high level guys that work in sales, support, operations etc. I don't expect them to love their job every day and I don't expect them to think of Redcat on the same level as the thousand dollar plus cars that they race. I am sure that if you have a friend that works at Redcat he will tell you some things he would do differently, but he might also tell you some things that he likes. I can count on one hand the amount of people that love everything about where they work. The employees at Redcat are a dedicated team that works very hard at what they do. To act as if you are speaking on their behalf is simply childish as I am sure that if someone does not like where they work, they would find a new job don't you think? I don't remember us chaining people to their desks, at least not since 2007. Darin

RE: 5th Scale Brushless Buggy RTR
ORIGINAL: Sherv Kias aren't bad cars especially now that Hyundai has taken over Quality Control. It wasn't a bad comment IMO. It's a completely different class market. and I think the 700 dollars for the XB Brushless is fair because there is nothing else in its class to compete against it. There is no one else for it to be any cheaper for. Until it has a competitor 700 dollars is now the Benchmark. There was a video from Andrew Simolniak (he left CEN though) with a CEN MT with a Hobby Wing ESC/Motor but that wasn't RTR so there isn't any competition. Plus I would buy an XB any day over that rebadged FS P.O.C.
Thanks man, I was just kidding about the Kia comment by the way. Have a good day. Darin
