RE: Rudder on takeoff help
Just to add to what grey beard posted: he is correct in stating that adding up elevator will increase tail wheel contact allowing for better control. I have found that with many of my WWI and WWII tail draggers that I hold in up elevator just long enough to get the plane tracking straight, then I feed in down elevator to get the tail up, which lets the rudder kick in with the added tail wash from the prop.

Rowdog, the 2300 will under power the P51 for sure. You will need a 35 gasser or equivalent.

I have flown Airtronics exclusively since 1986 and had everything but the SD10. Recently, I purchased the Aurora 9. It allows you more programming options, waay cool.

RE: From the 60's - What was your 1st plane ?
Not embarrassed to say, my first plane and intro into the hobby was the Carl Goldberg Eaglet. The gentleman who had introduced me to the sport had given me a craft radio, and having no knowledge of servos at the time, I can't recall what was used. The Goldberg kits were made in such a way that not even I could have built it un-flyable. It was an ugly site to behold, as it was my first mono-cote covering job. But, it flew and landed itself. I remember and cherish that plane. Thanks for the opportunity to share the memories. RCer for life. Blessings all.

RE: Typical gee bee flight
IMHO, most Gee Bee modelers start with the cg to far aft. And if they happen to get the cg right, they often attempt to land this plane without the proper throttle inputs. The plan must be flown to the deck. [image][/image] [image][/image] [image][/image]

RE: Hobbyking no customer service?
Hey guys, we all know that sh.t happens. I have been a customer of Hobby King for 5+ years now and I have never been cheated out of anything. I have always gotten what I have paid for. That said, I want to say that there has to be a level of trust put forth on both sides in these transactions. Most modelers are trustworthy (I did say most), and most businesses are as well. I would have followed the advice of HK and allowed them the opportunity to make things right. This would have required some trust on the buyer's part. However, if HK did not then do right, I would cease doing business with them. I recently made an order with heliproz and upon finding out that the battery I ordered did not have the right connections, emailed them to cancel my order. I received an elegant email in return, but they went ahead and placed the order after I had purchased same battery elsewhere. I have placed over $3,000.00 in orders with the company over the years, but will cease doing further business with them as the person responsible in their sales dept. lacks integrity (my opinion only). I don't want a fight, just fair and equitable treatment as a customer in hard economic times. I'd rather give up the hobby than be treated unfairly by those lacking integrity. But that is just me.

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
Hey flyracer: I tuned my 28 this way. Start engine and let it warm-up well. Start with the high-endlean it to its highest rpm using tach. Let the high-end run for a good 45 seconds. If it drops rpm, open rich a hair. If it hold rpm with authority you can move on to low-end needle. For low-end adjustment: start engine and run it up. Slowly come back on throttle. As you come down on throttle, listen for the engine to break out of two-cycle into a four-cycle. When it hits a four- cycle point, you lean the low-end needle just to take it back to the two-cycle. Repeat this until you get it down to the idle position and you have a two-cycle condition throughout the entire throttle range. At this point you then use radio trim to get lowest throttle idle setting. Of course, if you are heating up in flight, you'll have to correct that with baffle and not with the needles. Hope this helps. If not disregard. Good luck.

One-way bearing, clutch bell or clutch shaft?
Flew my Raptor 30 v1 on Saturday without problem. On Sunday, I wanted to start it up to check my throttle geometry, but it would not turn over. I checked for flooding, and removed back-plate of engine (tt 39) and found nothing suspect. I removed clutch bell and starter shaft appears to rotate in one direction and not the other (hence one-way). The best way to describe the symptoms is that the clutch is engaged. That is, turning the starter shaft for engine start also turns the blades. What's going on, and what needs to be replaced. Thanks.

RE: Thumbs vs. Pinch method
Started flying planes in mid-80's and got comfortable using the pinch method. Recently, I have ventured into heli's and found the thumbs on top to offer freer movement of sticks, so I have made the switch. The down-side has been sore thumbs, but being a hobbyist, I placed 1/4" grommets on the sticks. And man what a difference. [image][/image][image][/image]

RE: help first time build
Just in case no one has mentioned this, do yourself a favor and make duplicate parts out of heavy construction paper. I have never bought the same kit twice and some kits are worthy of building more than once. It also comes in handy when you have need of repairs. Also, it is more time consuming, and no doubt you are anxious to get the build started, but the added time has the benefit of familiarizing you with all the parts of the build. Have fun.

Dude, I hear ya. I am a dad and I hear your pain. You should leave home, get a great job and support the hobby of your choosing. In fact, you should not only support yourself, but start your own family and treat the kids to all the hobby has to offer. That will show him. And I bet he'll be proud.

RE: Trex 600 nitro tips and tricks
Just finished building my Nitro Pro and I have two questions: First, on my my two run ups, the heli wanted to tilt left. I am guessing it is do to torque. Do any of you add right cyclic, and if so how? My second question has to do with running a starter, the plug line for fueling and burning off the nitro in engine and using after-run oil at the end of flying. Do most of you pull the line to the carb nipple or do you simply use the cutoff clip and turn the engine over (and if so, how are you introducing after-run oil to the carb)? Thanks.
