RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Here is one I just had manufactured and stocked. It has a larger chamber than the stock muffler and also points down for profile mounted engines at 90 degrees mount. I see an increase in top end. Getting 8800 hot on Xoar 17x6. It took a bit of re-tuning the engine, compared to stock muffler top end was real lean bottom end too. Still makes noise like a 20cc but the tone is different....not bad on half throttle and below...Weighs a half ounce more than stock DLE20 muffler. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1mXY2Jk1lM

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
ORIGINAL: guinnb Been a long time since I posted on this thread but several EE60's are flying on the DLE 20cc. I'm loving this combination. So far it seems the key to good throttle control/transition is using a Xoar 17x6 prop (JC, Vess have good alternatives as well), a long carb arm from WrongWayRC.com, and proper throttle to servo geometry. Oh yeah, Chips put the ValleyView DLE 20 muffler on it as well. I'm getting one asap as it really performs well and has a much more pleasing tone that the stock DLE muffler. Here's a video from this last weeks Nashbro showing this all working well together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyVk3J8t4Wc
Nice vid Brian! The plane looks sharp!! Great flying!

I import A123's for my product line. Had to fairly beg for these... evaluation period right now. Not feasible for flight in my mind right now. They are honkers though.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Dynatron on 4 cell A123-2300 spins at about 2400 rpm... sometimes I dont have the idle high enough and when I pull the starter off and the engine slows down it hits and runs... No spinner so a single bolt prop is a good idea as you cant keep the starter centered on a 4 bolt setup with no spinner... The 4 cell A123-1100 would spin the DLE-30 with choke off.... wont with choke on... engine has good compression. This weekend I started using the new A123-4400 cells and the 4S pack spins the 30 like water....128 amps continuous....

RE: AMA sanctioned club looks to punish members
I would like to take this time to give kudos to the President....VP, board of directors and other club officers.... What I am not talking about is this club under the spotlight.....I am talking about my club and many many more across the country who do not need to rule with an iron fist, get the job done, SERVE THE MEMBERS and do not need to have a thread with nearly a thousand posts on the web to run out the differences. What is different in my club and perhaps others..... Could be different things, mostly the ELECTED officials SERVE the members, and not themselves. They give Leniency when a MEMBER is walking the fine line... at least the first or second time...I could see ruling with an iron fist if it was a safety issue.... but even then, members are not typically thrown out from their club when the lose control and their plane come careening into the pits....at least not the first time. I don't think this question has been asked in this forum yet but I will. What is the flying style of the different offending parties? Do the officers fly war-birds and the offenders fly 3D? Was the people who run this guy out just looking for an excuse because he shows up with a trailer full of 100cc and up War-birds or Aerobats or 3D aerobats? Or did he show up to the field with a glow trainer....???? How many times has it been seen in forums where there are differences between those that fly one style of plane versus another....how about helicopters? What are the chances that this case has influence from that possibility? Again, I want to thank the LEADERSHIP in the club that I am now a member for finding a balance, strangely.... everyone gets along, young and old, different styles....must have something to do with RESPECT.... I could be off here though.

RE: AMA sanctioned club looks to punish members
""Until the smell goes away, you better like flying by yourself. "" Heck, I would fly with Taildragger. This world is too full of "Lemmings" who just jump off the cliff cause that is what the guy behind him is telling him to do. Cudos to a stand up guy who will stick his neck out and has real principal. Shame on all of the keyboard spinsters/Jockey, instigators. What you probably don't see with them is their background frustration that make them come here to beat on their chest and say things that they would never say in the lemming line or to a man's face for that matter.

RE: Extreme Flight 88
Isn't it amazing.... I remember some years ago watching a guy hover a plane....might have been the first time I saw an RC giant hover....it was a video...when he punched out he also nosed it over so it would start using the wings.....wonder what his thrust to weight was? Nowadays we are pushing the 2-1 rocket like escape.....yeah I saw LXCoup with his DA120 powered EF-110 on a JC 28-10 at about 6500 rpm.....he punched go and it was like a rocket launch, straight up.... We have come a long way..

RE: Extreme Flight 88
Somewhere I read that the 93 octane in the book refers to what they get overseas where the engine is built. If I remember correct it is similar to the 89 octane that we have at the pump using the RM/2 method over here. 93 there like 89 here. It has been a while.....but I tried 100 octane race gas in my DA-50 on stock muffler....no rpm gain...back to regular pump gas same top end rpm. Weight of airplane will reflect in how quick it goes up on a vertical line with a similar engine/prop/thrust combo. If you plane for example weighs 16 pounds and you have 32 pounds of thrust you have 2-1 power to weight ratio....this will yield scalding up lines... in another example, if the plane weighs 18 pounds and you only have 28 pounds of thrust (pure examples) then you might only have 1.55 power to weight....much slower pull out. Most 3D pilots can fly 3D at 1.5 to one...most would rather have 2 to one. What oil are you using?

BTW, for anyone who wants to compare the power of this engine to a Saito 125....The engine that came off of this plane is a Saito 125 with new bearings and tune up, and was swinging the exact same prop at no more than 8400 rpm static....same airframe, exact same prop now 10,400... was just having fun today...trying different setups.

RE: NEW DLE30!
Ignition off, throttle WOT, choke on.....rock the prop back and forth against the compression....it works the pump...if you have the chance to do it with the cowl off you will see it draw the fuel up the line to the carb...now here is the part that I have not perfected...if while you are rocking the prop you are listening you will hear a squishing when the fuel is finally drawn into the chamber around the rings....once you get there...choke off, throttle cracked, ignition on and give it a good stroke....I have seen guys with 50, 100 and 150cc engines turn on that ignition and get it on the first stroke each and every day....if you got the fuel up into the chamber the worst it might be is to pop and make you prop it another time or three....and yes, a perfectly leaned low end will be harder to draw up the fuel...my experience.

BTW, I am slathering Aloe on my face.....got a sunburn today.... Cant remember 8-10 flights... not quite a quarter of a gallon of gas....with oil in there about $1 worth. The Saito would have used half to three quarters of a gallon. At 22 bucks a gallon a day like today would be $13 to $15 in glow costs. A two day weekend...say $28....two days a weekend for a month....around $110 bucks versus say $8-10 dollars of gas.... How long before the DLE pays for itself?[;)]
