RE: Ultra RC 92
Very interesting... have any of the shortcomings in the original version been addressed (especially the incidence problem between the wing and the stab)?

See [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9069325]my post[/link] in the Ultra R/C Zero thread for a possible replacement. I have ordered this on advice of Mac Hodges, and I will report as to whether this works for me. By the way, is your rudder wire 3.2mm the way mine is? By the way, you can go to [link=http://www.airborne-models.com/html/ShoppingOnLine.asp]Airborne Models[/link], the place I bought mine, type the part number into the accessories search to find it.

RE: Ultra RC 92
For completeness, the World Models part number cited by Stuka back in post 125 of this thread for the double arm used on the rudder tiller is incorrect. That part isn't even adaptable to this context; the correct part number is PL4112301 (see photos).

RE: TBM 93
Hey guys, I'm building the Ultra R/C version of this kit, and it comes without the rudder tiller arm. This part is clearly visible in photo #4 of Jim's posting #23 in this thread. Does this part come in the TBM kit, and do you know if it might be available separately, or if there is a suitable replacement from another source? I've been looking tonight and come up empty.

RE: Horizon re-releasing the Taylorcraft!!
Has anyone seen this up close yet? Looking at the [link=http://publications.horizonhobby.com/t/431301/66559/12315/0/]video[/link] that Horizon has posted, it looks like they've completely rengineered the leading edge support in the fuselage, which was the structural problem with the old design (the single ply former would flex, part and break in the old one unless you carbon fiber or fiberglassed it in). Curious to hear whether my analysis is correct. At $549, I'll just be hanging on to my old one though.

RE: Saito FG-20
Boy, this thread just gets better and better... If I were Horizon, I'd be doing something major in terms of demanding an immediate effort by Saito to get to the bottom of this and fix it ASAP, and to come up with some program to help out their customers both in the interim and when the problem is corrected. Otherwise, they risk destroying 25 years worth of great reputation for one of their flagship brands. As to my situation, after getting one of the Saito mounts and realizing that it will require firewall holes in completely different spots that the RCS 140 mount has, I am putting this entire project on the shelf. This is more work than I am willing to take on only to find that the new motor runs crappier than the old one. When I get my test stand built later this summer, I'll try the engine out their before making any plans to use it in a plane. So for right now it's a $500 paperweight...

Couple questions for you on your advertised Honey Bee Mk 3 package: is an AC converter included for the charger, and is the training software included for the $69.95 price or not? The "Add Esky Flight Simulator Software [$19.95]" box is preselected on the page and adds $19.95 to the cart...

RE: Saito FG-20
Wow, how depressing. Shoulda read this thread before buying one myself, especially since I want to use it as a replacement for my recalcitrant RCS 140 that I finally got tired of fighting with in my Cub. i may have traded one problem for another... but my hardheadedness forces me to forge on and try anyway. The reason I started looking here about this engine was to see what others have been doing about mounting this thing. I haven't seen any great ideas so far. What the heck was Saito thinking hanging that big hunk of carb on the side of the back right where it would interfere with engine mounts? They could have oriented it towards the middle of the back with an offset intake manifold like their glow engine carbs are. What the heck? The result for me is that I must also replace the perfectly otherwise usable Dubro metal vibration damping mount that the RCS 140 is currently on. If anyone else has come up with a better idea than the Saito mount, please let us see it.

RE: Byron Staggerwing Fuel Tank Mounting
Finally got to put this to the test. As I said in the earlier post, I mounted the 16 oz. tank on the floor of the fuselage, just behind the belly hatch, using rubber bands on cup hooks screwed into plywood plates epoxyed to the fuse. A layer of foam was placed on top of that, and then the air tank was rubber banded on top, using the same hooks. The fuel lines were routed carefully up the middle of the cabin between the landing gear mechanisms, and wire-tied clear of them. The engine is a Q-35. The engine doesn't have a choke, so since I can't reach the carb with the cowl on, I need to use a starter to get the fuel up to the carb (or flip for a very long time ;-). Other than that, the engine runs absolutely perfectly. First flights finally occurred last weekend, and went just fine including mild aerobatics, with no sign of engine misbehavior. After three flight during which 3/4 of the tank was used each time, I noted no significant change in flight behavior that might be attributed to a change in balance. In summary, I would recommend this solution to the tank position problem as the best for engines with a pump carb.

RE: 9Z/TM-7 Problem
Bax, sorry, you posted while I was composing. Took a close look at the bottom connector in the WC2 module compartment, and what do ya know, there's the problem (see photos, first the WC2 and second the old 9Z). The WC2 connector is sticking out a couple millimeters less than the 9Z one. So for completeness, just in case anyone ever comes across this problem again, here's my solution. Since this appeared to be a purely mechanical problem (and since it's long out of warranty anyway), I elected to fix this myself. But when I took the back cover off, I found that the connector in question is flat against the PC board it's mounted on (see third photo). The only solutions are 1) raise the board in relation to the cover and/or 2) lower the cover in relation to the board. The board is held in by three screws, two at the top of the fourth photo, and one on the lower left. (By the way, can someone tell me what the function is of those springs on the upper screws?) I was going to try to put some washers under the board, but I was too lazy to unfasten and then have to refasten all those ribbon cables to get under it. So, I just settled for loosening the screws just a bit, allowing the board to sit just a bit higher. On the inside of the cover, on the surface that (may?) contact the board, I found four little bumps molded into the plastic. These are all within a inch or so of the connector. Again, I see no reason for these other than to hold the cover way from the board. Since this is not what I want, I filed these bumps most of the way down. (Sorry, I forgot to take a photo before I put it back together.) After reassembling the case back, during which I cranked the five screws as tight as I dared in a plastic case, I find the connector is now standing out just about the same distance as the 9Z one (see last photo). I insert the synch module and, as expected, it fires right up and works fine. I will do some long term testing tomorrow, but I'm betting this was the whole problem.

RE: 9Z/TM-7 Problem
OK, I tried the TM-7 back in the WC2, and and it seems to work fine. The synth module works fine in my other 9Z. But when I put it back in the WC2, it worked for a short time, then PLL Warning came up on the screen, and after restarting the radio it went back to the way it was (broken). The synth module once again works fine in the other 9Z. I'm assuming that the WC2 is messed up somehow...?

9Z/TM-7 Problem
I have a problem with my 9ZAP WC2 with a FP-TK-FSS systhesized RF module. It was functioning perfectly this winter, and then I purchased a TM-7 module and R607 receivers to use with it. I installed the TM-7, and set up a plane with one of the receivers. This all seemed to work fine. This week, I wanted to switch back to the FP-TK-FSS module to use some of my old planes still having 72mhz. The radio doesn't seem to recoginize the module at all; the FRQ choice doesn't show up on the SYS menu at all, and the radio won't go on the air. I tried the (identical) synth module from my old 9Z, and the same thing happens. I tried the original synth module in the old 9Z and it works fine, as does the old synth module. I then tried a 72mhz channel 30 module in the WC2, and it appears to work fine (the radio goes on the air, and controls my trainer on channel 30 properly). Afterwards, the synth module still doesn't seem to be recognized. I don't recall hearing anything like this before, so I must be doing something wrong. Any ideas?

RE: NEW KMP BF-110 95" BUILD
Did you consider the [link=http://www.rcshowcase.com/html/RCS/rcs26sv.html]RCS SV26[/link] for power? I know it's a half inch too long with standoffs long enough to clear the carb (is there room enough for that?), but it's not as tall as the G-26 and it's much narrower, so you would probably cut out a lot less cowl. Plus it's cheaper...
