RE: firestorm diff go boom
It's a shim problem. You need to add more shims and it will never happen again. I have a big block drag storm that did it till I figured that out. You need 3 big and 2 small on each gear.

The lower the number the softer the tire will be. It is the color scale that throws me off yet. Tire width all depends on what you want to do with the car. I would go with a narrower tire if you are trying for top speed. It is all a learning curve to figure out what works best for your application.

I got that one from eBay and it is being shipped back tomorrow. The thing does not take a charge and it turned on long enough to find out it was dead. I had to open a case because the guy wouldn't take it back since it was on in th picture. Looking closer at the picture you can see that it was about to die on him too. I hate people like that. The cars have just sat since stripping the spur but I am going to mess around with one today.

Your chassis should be fine they can withstand quite a bit of power and abuse before you get to where the chassis is a problem.

RE: Nasty 1/10 scale on-road cars using .21 or larger engines....come inside
Thanks fdjizm I wondered what make that was. With those it will tell you your max at any point too. I will go there and buy one now. I highly recommend the ofna 2 speed. My motor moved on the 2nd tank and took the teeth off of first again so I need to figure out a way to make it stay put. I had that same problem with the firestorm when it was on there. Not sure but it think it is because of the way it turns and they mesh together. It works fine on the cd3s but when you put it in anything that the motor is on the other side of the spur it tears the teeth off every time just when you get comfortable and hammer down the motor just revs out. I have more spur gears but will probably run that same motor in the other car with a 25/34 on stock pulleys and then change them to the 20t and see if they make that big of a change.

RE: Nasty 1/10 scale on-road cars using .21 or larger engines....come inside
I ran the 2 speed one racer today and can honestly say that car is scary fast. Went on the safe side with the gearing just to get a feel for the way it is going to handle. I am out of receivers for my good controler so I used a rtr one for now and I can see that its not going to work without having the fine tuning adjustments. The sensitivity is too much for speeds this fast. That ofna 2 speed works awesome on the racer so if you have one i would give it a try. I used the stock 18t pulleys with a 19/22 38/41 gears and ran the 1/8th rear tires since i'm going for top speed. This car has a front one way so I didnt have to worry about the size diference in tires. It is a rocket in first and the 2nd shift makes it hop a couple times but nothing that noticable. If you couldnt hear it you wouldnt know at all. It pulls in 2nd just as fast as first but I didn't wind it out all the way yet. There was too many kids in the area for a near 100 pass. Need to get a new radar because the one I got dont work unless you can fly by next to it but I feel pretty confident that if the 3.3 in there will get very close to that 100 mark

I'm sure it would eat that thing up. I don't like that paw design. The ofna 2 speed fits in there like it was meant to be in there. I have titanium tubing that is 5mm id and 6mm od that allows me to mount that ofna setup on any vehicle. It's nice but some cars can't take the abuse from power and when you throw a shift in there something usually gives. It should work fine with the racer since there is a brace that doesn't allow for the chassis to flex. If there wasn't it moves the motor just enough to take the teeth off your spur every time.

Thanks. I also ditched the hpi 2 speed and mounted the 2 speed from one of my cd3 cars since they are smoother and accurate as hell.I think I am still going to give it a try with that car and also set up the other one with a single speed but same motor with the same mods.

I have got a general question about hitting and passing 100 with a racer2. What would be the problem with using a 2 speed to do it. I have got a 19/24cb and 38/43spur with 20t pulleys. I am still in the mock up stages and it can be thrown together easily. I am just curious.

RE: Nasty 1/10 scale on-road cars using .21 or larger engines....come inside
Thanks bro. I just picked that car up with a hpi Fe15 for a little over 100. It was missing some parts but that's ok. Supposedly the chassis is titanium but not sure it is not aluminum and it don't have a scratch on it. That pipe is a rd logics outlaw pipe for a .12. If you have a 3.3 that has serious mods done to it I strongly recommend it. The stinger is about the same size as a 1/8 scale and it makes a very noticeable difference in power with it. That 3.3 is no joke. Just ask the guys at adrennaline hobbies in Louisiana. Mine has more done to it than the one that beat their rail in my buddies 4tec. I took it out of my cd3s because it was just useless in it. That thing wouldn't hook for shit it is faster with a heavier .21 so I am hoping it will do ok in that racer with a 22/36 for now I am going to put a 25/34 in it for a speed run though.

RE: Nasty 1/10 scale on-road cars using .21 or larger engines....come inside
Here are a couple pics of the new project. This one has one of the strongest 3.3's I have ever done. It has the full works 8mm carb, both ceramics, and a double bushed connecting rod to handle the rpm's from the mod. There is another carbon fibre super nitro all ready for a motor and I also have 3 brand new cd3 pro's that just need a motor as well. I got motors just torn on what to put in each car. There is 2 8 port hypers, a losi mach 427, a jp .21, a idm picco .21 and I have enough parts to build a army of new 3.3's. This one just needs the linkages hooked up and holes drilled and tapped for the motor mounts.

RE: RC Car Actions
I got those pictures and updates from my guy in MO. He is 65 and his throat collapsed so he is in the hospital for now. My car is just about done in the mean time. There is a few issues to work out like the linkage, tap motor mounts, and play with some gearing but its coming. There is more work done to the block and a couple other parts but this will get you enough of a gian to make you satisfied.

He didn't make the video yet. It was just him and the cop for that run. As a backup though I just bought a hpi racer 2. All I have are ofna cd3s and they don't have 100 mph gearing options. So of he doesn't send me one which he should because he calls me just about every day to talk. I can make my own vid when that shows up and I get it dialed in. You know how it goes with some people since your a motor guy as well.

Having the dual motor box does help but sometimes you still have to spin the fly wheel back to get some momentum going for it to turn over

RE: RC Car Actions
I don't have any picturesof it yet. There is 2 more 3.3's to do then I can get to my own motors again. Got a call from a guy today that I had done another 3.3 for and he told me that he got a run in with his 4tec and had a local cop clock him. He said it got 96 mph in about 200 ft but had to shut it down because there was only 300 of pavement next to a high school football field. He ended up crashing and breaking a few things so he didn't get another run or any video. I am sure that there will be a video sent real soon so I can post that for the nay sayers. I have a couple cars that I've done up but run out of gearing options so they are too fast to even think about getting any traction. They would be more of a drag than a top speed.

Does anybody on here have a old walburn chassis that they would part with? I have been modding my own motors for a few years now and never new what I had going. I mainly just ran with my brother and one of my friends. Recently I started selling and doing other peoples engines and I got a guy who is running one of my 3.3's in his 4tec. He raced somebody with a rail that was all done up and modded and beat him all 3 races with a 4tec. It upset them bad enought they got their big block rail out and still lost. Now I am looking to actually get out there and start drag racing around here while he is going to advertise and drag down there.

Mattster you should let me get ahold of that motor so it can run like the raped ape it used to. I have been doing traxxas 3.3 cranks and selling them on ebay which is working out pretty well. I get a lot of emails back from people that are real happy with just a crank. The whole motor would make them a little faster still.

I'm not sure on the extreme pipe but hear good stuff about the buku. You just have to clean it all the time. I have a rd logics 1/8 scale outlaw pipe on my 3.3 and it made a huge improvement over the stock drilled out resonator pipe. With a modded 3.3 and a drilled out resonator pipe the truck was comtrolable at full speed. That rd pipe made the truck a hand full to drive. The extra rpm made the tires balloon up enough to where the truck was very hard to go straight. The pipe says its for 1/8 scale but the header will only fit on a small block with a larger gasket.
