RE: Anhedral Stab back in the Day?
The Calypso is a fantastic flying ship. It just looks like a leaf in the air. Could use some dolling up on the color scheme.

Nothing until after the election. Was gearing up last month, but checking the stuff here, the market is depressed.

RE: Why buy a kit just to have it?
I stopped collecting awhile back. My epiphany came when I added up the time in building all my kits/arfs and if I built one per month it would take somewhere over 8.5 years to finish off what I have now, not including what is already built. Then comes the flight trimming and then the liquidation of old stuff(a crash really can solve some things). I think nailing the vintage stuff is cool, great stuff to build but I will be somewhere in my 60's when that pile is complete and there's always new stuff coming out. BH has a Chipmunk ARF out almost identical to the above online add. The new products are a bit relentless, so I would say get the stuff you really want and try not to rationalize over the others, thank you for your time here.

RE: thinning out kits, which one would you sell?
None of the above. You really have to find a way to hang onto all three since they're all very collectable and the only replacement would be an arf if you can swallow that.

RE: MK Curare 40
I think you guys are right in assesing a price ceiling for this stuff. It gets a little irrational at some point. As I see it, if the sales of the D Birdy keep with it then I suspect GP will re-release the Tipo. A little salt in the wound here; I scored my Curare 40 kit back in 1990 for 25$. Didn't expect to be sitting on him so long. Too many ships.

RE: Royal Kits
P-Y, Considering the age of the kit, the plans shrink and expand over time so there will be differences between the parts and plans. A fudge factor will come in handy here. I have the same kit; what engines are you looking to put in him?

RE: Dirty Birdy 40 - Laser Kit
For those interested, I hope their decision to get one or more of these canopies will not be driven by price. Great Planes had the design around for years and then it just dropped out of sight. The look of the original canopy with the divit around the base is very cool as opposed to a standard teardrop.

Thank you for the input; I think I have a couple of diaphragms for the 45's. I just wish I could find some additional cash for more than 1 of the new engines. The new guy will be going into a Hanson Tipo I bought new back in 1987 and never built(long story).

RE: Anybody interested in a NEW YS shortstroke? New, as in produced this year...
Something I would like to see is the diaphragm compatible with the original Fr series. I haven't checked recently but I hear that these are no longer available, and in the YS lineup, the diaphragm is the 'wear' part of the pressure system. Just something I would like if my speculation is correct.

I just went thru my 2011 Tower catalog, no canopy. They sold these things forever so I think my next move is to give them a call. It's a shame if they discontinued them because they were the real knockoff.

RE: Dirty Birdy 40 - Laser Kit
GP carries the canopy for the Dirty Birdy but it comes out to a 60 size. The part # is GPMQ2110. It's the real thing with the divits around the base and pretty reasonable as well. If I can remember to do it, I will pull out the canopy on my 40 size kit and do a measure to see if he would work.

RE: WHY!!!
It really disgusted me because when I removed the engine from its mount, he had long gone across country. The engine ran well but the back plate holes and the case holes were so buggered up, just a mess. I will say that in all of the transactions here at RCU I have had not one problem or issue. Really great guys to deal with here. I feel bad reading about the deals some guys get burned on.

So long as you can catch the mod before you commit to buy. I bought an 'almost new' ST 45 years ago and the owner had drilled out and retapped the back plate holes for the rubber mount lugs, a real trashy job.
