RE: Engine transition problem?
Ninety % of the engines I have come across and observed do not have the proper low needle valve setting as set at factory. As one major example the Magnum 52 XLS low speed needle comes from the factory at about 2 1/2 turns open. The final setting on these engines turns out to be between 3/8 and 3/4 turn open on the low needle. Please don't take any setting that someone else has set as being correct. You will have to learn how to set up a carburetor for each and every engine you come across. They are all different. If you will Email me direct I will lead you to an excelent write up on tuning engines. rbauer@chilitech.net

RE: Pilot hole too big
Drill a hole in some scrap. fill hole with baking soda. add several drops of THIN CA Try this method to see if you like it. It will be stronger than the wood. Don't breath the fumes when you add the CA. I think you will find this method usefull for many types of repairs. Remember it doesn' sandpaper well .

Interferance from RC Transmitter eith cardiac defribulator
Got home from hospital with some rebuilt and some new parts. " by-pass and Cardioverter -defibrillator. After reading "Avoid holding the following items closer than necessary to your implant site" I almost had a heart attack. (Can still detect the taste of STAMP GLUE on my tongue.) I am sure I am not the first one with this condition in this Hobby. Any first hand info on this? Yes I do intend to call defib mfg. on Monday.

Dave Patrick seems to be $30.00 cheaper and I am sure you can replace the head gasket and get the compression ratio back for 0 - NITRO

RE: moki 2.1 please help find
davepatrickmodels.com is the only place that I know of in the US. His engines are identical to the Moki except he lowered the compression ratio to satisfy the US thirst for NITRO. Probably put in a thicker head gasket to do this however I am sure it ( compresion ratio )can be restored to the origional Moki specs. The other distributer is Morris Hobbies but they don't list the 2.1 Good luck Bob

RE: Magnum XLS 52 - A 'Hunk of Junk'?
The taper on the Mag low speed needle is quite steep, there-for making the low speed adjustment touchy. I have three of them, and once you find the proper setting the engine is a power house. With the throttle closed, I start with the low speed needle 1/2 turn open and then use the pinch test. It is very easy to go from lean to rich with 1/8 turn either way.

RE: Moki vs hand
I may be wrong, but from what I read the WOT at start up caused the unrestrained plane to lurch forward and injure the hand. I really feel he was lucky that was all that happened. DO NOT start a plane that does not have a positive restraint no matter what size it is. I am sure he has learned and I hope this sends a message to all.

RE: Moki engines--new brand name
As far as I know, the only distributors in the US are Dave Patrick and Morris Hobbies. There are some problems with Morris stocking them due to the US dollar on the world market. At least that is what I understood. Dave Patrick also has " Moki " with a lower compression to meet the Nitro wants of the US market. I don't know who would want to burn Nitro$ when they run great on O -nitro. I don't know how he lowered the compression. If it was by adding a head gasket, that can be an easy fix. Perhaps a phone call to him would get you the information. The Morris is known as "Mark " engines and the Dave Patrick are known as " Dave Patrick " ---"Just Engines " has the Moki engines but can't ship to the US - Good luck - Bob

RE: Metric O-Rings for Nitro Engines
I found metric O-rings at an ACE hardware in Port Charlotte Fl. so I do know ACE has them listed in their stock. That doesn't mean they will stock them though. I think you will find the thickness of what you are looking for is 2MM My Moki low speed throttle took a 10X14X2MM. Good luck. Bob

RE: Is Kit Building Making a "Comeback"?
Just yesterday I compared the identical 90 size ARF with the KIT. The ARF was on sale for $199. and the kit was $169. Where do you think the best buy would be?

RE: ARF Pilots; What would you fly if there were no ARF's?
I would find it much harder to afford the kits instead of an ARF. Just yesterday I looked at a 90 size plane offered in both ARF and KIT. ( same idenitcal plane ) The Arf was listed for $199. and the kit was listed at $169. Granted the ARF was a sale price but how can I afford the extras, covering and assorted parts for $30. Not to mention the newer ARF's have a much better job covering and general construction has improved. Just my opinion. The answer to the posted question!!! I guess I would just bite the bullet, and get back to building. I still build, but from Plans. By the way, if you do buy a kit to build, be sure to check that all the parts are also on the prints. After a mishap you will have the ability to make new parts instead of buying another kit.

RE: ASP 52A Help
I had the same problem that was driving me to drink. Wound up being the fuel clunk line where it attached to the brass tube. Even though I had the tank opened several times I missed the slight crack in the tubing where it flexed right at the end of outlet tube. It doesn't take much. It may not be your problem.

RE: Moki 180 or DPM 180?
The only difference between the Moki and the Dave Patrick is the compression ratio. The Moki runs great with FAI fuel and better idle on 5% nitro. The DP has decreased the compression ratio in order to satisfy the USA need to burn nitro. I do not know how the compression was changed. If it was done by adding head shims which would be the cheapest, it would not be any major change to go back to a higher compression. On the other hand if you want to burn nitro $$ all you need to do is add head shims to the Moki. I do not own a 1.80 but my 1.35 (Mark in the US ) is one sweet engine.

RE: 52xls magnum whats the story?
I have no troubles with mine however you must learn to tune both the low and high speed needles and forget about how the needles are factory set. With some learning and patience you will have an engine that will outperform the others of the same size.

RE: I need a new engine. Fuel consumtion quistion
I have a Mark 135 and found it is not bad at all on fuel consumption. Not only that , it runs great on "0" nitro. For my money it is a great engine, with plenty of power. Had it in an Excelleron 90, and performance of the plane and engine was out of this world. The performance of the pilot was not equal to the equipment.[&o]

RE: Moki 2.10's - Where to buy?
I do believe the only difference with the Dave Patrick version, is the compression ratio to run higher nitro. Why you would want that I don't know, but it probably has to do with franchise rights. I don't know how he had the compresion ratio changed but if it was only head gasket thickness it would be easy to convert it back to the original. If I really wanted one I would call him and ask.

Thanks again WOXMAN I sure will modify the stab before I fly it. Right now I think I will sheet the bottom of both sides and recover. Will add a bit of weight aft but I am sure I can balance it out with battery or whatever. Now is the time to do it.

Excelleron 50 Info please.
I know there was a wealth of information on the Excelleron 90 about a year ago, but would like some first hand info on the 50. I plan on using a Magnum 80 four stroke up front. I am sure the landing gear mount plate will be a weak point and I plan on a proper mod for it. Haven't looked at the fuel tank height for inverted engine mount, but I sure will, and realize the tank C/L must not be higher than needle valve especially with inverted engine. Any other Heads Up's or flying tips would be appreciated

RE: Where to buy part for MOKI 2.10
If you need the O-rings for the low speed adjustment barrel, I was able to find them at an Ace Hardware while in Fl. They are metric and are 10MM x 14MM X 2MM thick. This is for a Mark 1.35, but I am fairly sure they are the same for a 2.10 The store I went to had an assortment box of Metric O-rings.

RE: Cordless Drill starter adaptor
It seems to me all you need to do is countersink the inside of the mounting hole of a regular aluminum cup and using a flat head bolt and nut, you have one. Not sure if the cordless drills have enough speed, but it is worth a try. I presume you want it for a larger engine.
