RE: Stinson Id help please
Looks like a Top Flite Stinson Reliant to me. I have had one for a number of years now and it still flies like a champion! The kit is still available and is a pleasure to build.

RE: Smoke system for Turboprop
Hello, Please excuse me for asking a dumb question- In the installation of the turboprop-where is the air intake? The reduction gear is at the nose of the aiplane and is the air intake buried in the fuselage?i.e at the opposite end of the unit? Thank you Bob Bishop www.RC-Airplanes-Simplified.

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Hi everyone, Pleased to report that the Swordfish flies great! After all the problems it flies like a dream. The Laser 180 glow is a perfect match for this airplane and flies it at a realistic speed. Very stable airplane, although a touch on the nose heavy side (4.6") Will remove some of the nose weight before the next flight. Have ordered a new fuselage today-Many thanks FNQ Flyer. I contacted Austars Models and eventually found a new distributer here in Ontario! Note that all the incidences are as the model comes and have not been modified. The fuselage and interplane struts determines these angles and as I mentioned before, they appear to be close to scale. Probably because of the nose heavy condition, I had to put in a LOT of UP trim during the flight, but otherwise it flew very well. I think that landings will be a pleasure with this model.

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
The incidence is +4 degress for both wings. Article with the info is from an Aeromodeller of Feb.1966. Article and drawing are by G.A.G.Cox. Fuselage damage you see in the photos is from attempted first flight. (Balanced at 5.118") Now balanced at 4.6". I need to buy a new fuselage but cannot find one.

Ty, the Laser 180 was swinging an APC 18x8 prop at 8,700 rpm. This may give you an idea of power requirements. Bob

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Hi Ti, You could be right-but do not fly with a CG at 34% of MAC!(That is at 130mm) The worst that can happen with a forward cg is that the plane will not take off! Bob

Hi Ty, Yes I was balanced at the 130mm point-do not understand how blubberse got away with it. Yes she did try to climb straight up at take off. Bob

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Ram-bro, Power is a Laser 180,single cylinder, glow (Brand new-purchase for this airplane). Weight is ?-maybe able to weigh her tomorrow. Radio is JR 10X. Was able to use programming features to use 4 servos for ailerons. Wings are removable as pairs-similar to Ty's.\ Balance is on the recommended point in the manual. No retracts! If she flies well, I will install all of Ty's mods. All the best Bob

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Hi Ty, Many thanks for all your help and suggestions. I have just finished adding the flying wires as you suggested (It took me longer than an hour!) and I am very satisfied with the results. I am amazed at the rigidity of a set of upper and lower wings. This idea as well as a method of securing the wings span-wise (See my photos of the 6-32 capscrew, from a few days ago) makes a solid set-up. Should be flying soon! Bob

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Ram Bro and Ty and fockewulf37, I have finished bolting on the wings. I tapped the upper composite spar 6-32 and used socket head cap screws to lock it in. On the bottom wings I drilled through the wing strut and into the landing gear upper strut, then tapped the upper strut 6-32. The tapped hole is on a bit of an angle but it looks OK. I have a photo but do not know how to post it. If some one could give me an idea as to how to post photos I will be glad to do so. Many thanks for all your help. Bob

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
I am almost finished. It has been a long, slow and sometimes frustrating build. I have 4 aileron servos working well with differential. My JR 10X transmitter has the aileron differential program available and I added two mix programs for the other 2 servos. Now have complete control over all 4 and can change amount of differential as well as total throw and end point adjustments. If any one is interested I can explain how I did it. (I did get help from JR via a phone call and they were very good) My last problem to solve is how to attach the wings and prevent them moving spanwise on the tube and upper wing spar. I cannot see an obvious solution. Has any one an idea? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. The upper and lower wings slide off as a pair .

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Maybe the last problem to solve- how are you bolting the wings to lock them in laterally? Also Ty-I drilled the underside of the wing center section to clear the excess wire of the cabanes Bob Bishop

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
I am using a Laser 180 for power. I have used 4 servos for the wings and routed the wires up the cabanes and through a hole in the under surface of the center section-does not look too bad. Bob

I agree with you Rambro-it is a lot of work!-I keep thinking that I am almost finished -but the beat goes on. Ty-I am a little further ahead than you. I agree with all the points you brought up. ( Great job and photos) Be careful with the placement of the engine or motor. Mine has finished up off center with the cowl. Have not figured out what is wrong yet. Bob Bishop

Just working on the wing assembly. Any tips from anybody would be greatly appreciated. Ordered a Laser 180 today. I do not understand how ESM can suggest a 50 cc gas engine-I believe that would be way to much for this Swordfish. Thanks in advance Bob rc-airplanes-simplified.com

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Just unpacked the "SWORDFLISH" (that's how EMS spell it!) Packing was very good and no damage to report. The quality of the airframe is first class-excellent glasswork and covering and painting. The hardware however may not be so good-time will tell. I cannot find the aileron servo mounting plates. Apparently they should be made from 2 mm ply and presumably finished in silver. Can anyone comment on where they found theirs? Thanks in advance Bob rc-airplanes-simplified.com

RE: ESM Fairey Swordfish
Hello there, This is my first attempt at forums-so bear with me. I am seriously considering buying the Swordfish. One question I have is- has anyone considered modifying the wings to allow them to fold as per the full size? From looking at the photos on this thread, it appears possible Bob
