RE: Wie ein Floh..Aber Oho! ME163
Jet Crazy, The Macs 1290 pipe works very well with the OS .91 DF, I tested it with the 1190 and decided to use the 1290 - and my ears appreciate it! Prop wise- size and selection greatly depend on the streamlining of the airplane. The Sunshine ME 163 is using a custom 9x10 prop and unloads nicely. You are trying to hit 22k+ in the air. This prop allows just over 20k on the ground. For your initial experimentation a 11x10 wood zinger cut down and profiled would get you in the ballpark. I would be hesitant to ust a FG Bolly but would use a carbon one. I have been laying up my own props with continious strand carbon per ILJ instructions but it is very time consuming. I am working with a prop manufacturer to offer these props commercially, but we are a month or so away.

RE: Original DEEZIL Runs
Gary, Will happily get you some photo copies. The original engine seems to have decent fits and makes a good pop - needs some more fiddeling however. I am just finding myself spread thin between to many pursuits and needing to streamline them a bit for my own sanity. Am keeping my GB twin needle Deezil however!

RE: new design: Strega 45
CP, The actual layup process is just best carried out with a methodical approach - very similar as pouring concrete. Pour it out wet - fill the forms - tamp/vibrate down- tool it till just before green - guard until set I am using a slow hardener for the mold layup, trim molds when green, and a faster hardener for mold joining. This seems to be working and keeps the molds in a shorter turnaround. On the first two pulls I layed a bundle of 4 tows of 6k carbon roving along the wing saddle/cutout extending well fore and aft of the opening. I layed 2 tows of 6k roving along the mounting lip of the bottom/belley cowl/fairing. 3 layers of 3.1 oz 4H crowsfoot cloth with the middle ply on the bias. This has produced a very stiff and light fuse. I may put a ply of light kevlar in a belly pan for a belly lander or for when the retracts won't......... What I am finding a bit shocking and I can imagine you experienced guys nodding knowingly is, The amount of time and effort involved in getting a marketable kit. Terry, Thanks for the encouragement - just tell me what size wings to cut for a .91[;)] Filling pinholes......

RE: Two Day Warbird Race in Sacramento
I think a 1.5:1 or 1.3:1 displacement bias is realistic. The top running 2 strokes seem to have more HP but less torque per displacement than the 4 strokes. I don't think this is earth shattering news. I support the .91/120/550 group. Now what to do with the minis? I'm a bit on the fence here- both in agreement with Terry that it will bring out some new planes/racers but also wary of having them in a gold class for visual avoidance reasons. Perhaps we could use a chart similar to Terrys allowing the minis (below 400sq) to compete in bronze and silver but not allow them in gold - making a cut off at 400sq in. The points in support may be the minis would tend to be less experienced entry level flyers - this would allow them to get valuable experience and provide a steping stone if they choose to move up. This would insulate the gold racers from flying/racing with less stable and tougher to judge smaller sized planes.

RE: Diamond dust with os .46 df (props)????
Apc 7.4x8.25 on pipe will give you 24,500 Static - you can get from APC or Tower - like $15 as they are chopped Carbon. This is what I run on my Miss Ashley You should seek out Freakinfast as he has posted extensively about this engine and various prop combos on a delta which I think is a Dust- but they all look the same to me Freakinfast is a wealth of knowledge and a good guy!

RE: Two Day Warbird Race in Sacramento
Terry - perhaps a ys 140 on a 550 Strega might be a bit much and may not exactly encourage beginners. I was trying to offer up something for the 4stroke guys but I guess they already have it[8D] Obamma was right - just no pleasin everyone. With the withdrawl of that suggestion I endorse the previous suggestion on the table of .90/1.20/550 with a 1% fudge factor for displacement. And I have to agree with Toni's last post of High performance engines allowed for both engine types.

RE: SCREAMIN' DEMONS EVERYWHERE !!!
The Bob Violet RNV are still available. They sold off all the rest of the Ducted Fan stuff but they still have a "couple" of RNV's as of about a month ago. I had to call them to find out. On the ME163 I am using one and it would allow for a full lean cut out, if you set it up with that in mind. I have mine set up in a middle capacity and just screw down the needle a bit more as I have a nice big OS carb to shut down with transmitter trims.

RE: My new and improved wing is RTF (Take 3)
Two 6mm plugs on battery side use a female on red and a male on black - no chance for mistake - (as long as you don't plug the battery into itself - but we are smarter than that, arn't we?) Which ever way you decide make it the fleet standard.[;)] I hate deans[:'(] The only thing good about them is the price. How many times I have tried to pull them apart inside a fuse and theyfinally let go and you break the plane or run a pushrod into your hand. But they would be up to the task of a fuseable link, indeed.

Because Left Hand Traffic (patern) is standard - without an operating control tower[;)] Right hand is only used for obsticle avoidance and noise abatement. Or maybe it has to do with the way the water rushes down the toilet......

RE: Two Day Warbird Race in Sacramento
I tend to agree a wing area chart seems usefull. The current chart using a 200% displacement formula for a 4stroke seems absurd. Jimmy's chart seems to use roughly a 150-160% factor which I am in full agreement with. I don't think you should only factor in a single 2 stroke (.75) but carry a conversion factor across the board. This will bring out new racers and new planes and mix it up a bit. It allows the use of engines in hand rather than forcing purchase of "The Engine".

RE: Two Day Warbird Race in Sacramento
Terry, I think your chart fits the desire to more equalize the engines across the board, and I would be completely happy with it. If we are going to change the rules, what is the process? Is there a steering comittee or a represenative from each venue? or by vote on RCU? It seems if we do not set some critical dates we may not get anything done and be discussing this again this time next year...... We have considered any and all possible ways to do this thing. I will try to organize the various suggestions. 1. New wing area chart - Jimmy's 2. New wing area chart - Jimmy's extended to allow larger 2 strokes 3. New wing area chart -Terry's 4. No wing area chart - rely on break outs 5. Minimum wing loading - similar to FAI 6. Anything goes Have I left any options out? Maybe this conversation should have it's own thread?

RE: Two Day Warbird Race in Sacramento
I think both charts look pretty good. Terry, If Jimmy was to take his out a bit larger for two strokes would that work for you? Let's try to get this classification to consensous so we know what to build.

RE: Two Day Warbird Race in Sacramento
Chris, The DF motors are to 2strokes almost what the YS are to 4stroke. And no one is stopping anyone from making their own props from CF continous strand for safety reasons or going to an existing CF prop vendor. The small displacement .45-.46 DF motors are still not on par with a Nelson .40 - power or weight or frontal area wise. [:D]
