RE: CCRC Biplane Bash photos
Many thanks David for posting you great photos of our annual Big Biplane Bash. The Central CT RC Club does a great job hosting my event. This year we had 53 pilots and well over 100 planes, our best event yet. I have linked your site to my facebook page and I will send the url to all the pilots that attended the event. They will be pleased to see more photos. This exposure is awesome for the club and in general for biplane lovers everywhere! if you get a chance, stop my my blog page and you can see the video we shot from the camera attached to Sal Calvagna's Fokker D-VII. I edited it a little and call it "Dogfight over Central Connecticut". got some air to air stuff that looks great complete with smoke! http://blogs-modelairplanenews.com/profile_blogs/Gerry_Yarrish/&action=view&id=1063 Also there is a link for more photos taken by Marc D'Antonio from the biplane event. http://blogs-modelairplanenews.com/profile_blogs/Gerry_Yarrish/&action=view&id=1064 thanks again. RE: WRAM show disapointment
I was there all three days at the MAN booth, we don't sell product but give away magz and accepted subscription payments. It is a fact that the show is contracting like everything else in the economy and our hobby industry. Now is the time to support local and regional trade shows. Even if you don't buy anything. Because without support and ticket sales at the door, shows will go away. Venders have big expenses to attend and let's face it, internet sales always have hurt local and brick-face, walk-in shops. I think it is important to support the WRAMS so they have a chance to survive! WHat else would we do in cold February if we did not have such a show to go to? So, just like your teeth, if you ignore hobby venders and trade shows long enough, they will go away! GY PS: check out the coverage of the WRAM show I put up at modelairplanenews.com there were some really interesting and exciting product debuts there!

RE: WRAM Show Exhibitors This Year
I think it is a good time to show support for the WRAM show. As the economy gets tighter and tighter, manufacturers are being more selective as to where to spend the marketing $$$. But the WRAM show is a show that's run by the local club and it needs all our support. I would say if you think you don't want to go because it is shrinking, then perhaps it will get even smaller without support. These are the times trade shows and local hobby shops need modelers the most. Spend some coin and help everyone out! GY

RE: Piper Cub 1/4 scale sig or balsausa
I have built both Cubs many years ago. The Sig is solid and goes together great. FLight performance is Excellent. I powered the model with a Zenoah G-23 I also built (and converted to a military L-4) the Balsa USA Cub. I think the lines of the BUSA are a bit more scale though the airfoil was changed to a sport flat bottom shape. This changes very slightly the shape of the windshield where it wraps arounds the leading edge. I always got knocked a 1/4-point for this in scale competition. I flew this one with a O.S. 1.20 4-stroke. Same great performance. GY

Onboard flight video 1/4-scale Piper Cub
Hey, wasn't sure where to post this but since it was taken using my Hangar-9 1/4-scale Piper Cub and is at the scale pilot's point of view I thought i'd post here. I recently took some onboard flight video and posted the tape on my new blog page. Check it out at: http://blogs-modelairplanenews.com/profile_blogs/Gerry_Yarrish/&action=view&id=746 The video was taped using the new Headplay personal heads-up display visor. And I think it is amazing! I've played with other camera and transmitter/ground receiver units before, but this one has really great quality and a very big 2.4GHz transmission area. I had no interference at all with my JR XP9303 2.4GHz radio system which was less than 10 inches from the onboard video signal transmitter. I will also be writing a review of the whole setup in the November 2008 issue of MAN Check it out. more info check: www.headplay.com for onboard camera system info: www.getinthecockpit.com

RE: Pietenpol Air Camper Kit or plans WANTED
I posted the start of a build Thread about my 33% Pietenpol Aircamper at http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/showthread.php?t=246229 I drew up CAD drawings but they are only working drawings, not complete by any means. The model is 33% scale, and I used full-size Piet plans I bought directly from Don Pietenpol. Even the airfoil is scale being drawn from his own dimensions/coordinates. the structure is scale and the assembly of the model is scale also, using formed metal brackets to bolt the tail surfaces to the fuselage and to attach the wing to the cabane struts. I used hard oak for the main landingg gear and have 9-in spoked wheels built from an Arizona Model Aircrafters kit. functional bungee suspension. I plan to include some servos under the pilot seat to move the control stick as the control surfaces move. I hope to have the model finished and on display for the 2009 WRAM Show. I should have better drawings by then GY

RE: Spacing for rib stiching 1/3 cub
I built a Balsa USA 1/3-scale Cub into an L-4 many years ago, 1991 or so, and I measured a full-size L-4 wing. The actual spacing was 3 inches apart so I made the model stitches, 1 inch apart. Also an interesting note is that the stitching on the tail surfaces and fixed fin, are not taped leading edge to trailing edge. Rather, they are covered by small 3 inch diameter circular patches with pinked edges making them look like little "sun" faces. Also not every three inches. I believe there were 3 on each rudder and elevator/stab rib equally spaced and only one or 2 on each side of the fin. For what it's worth. GY

RE: Enlarging Copyrighted Plans
Yes, I've been working at MAN for 17 years. One of the things I do is find people to write construction articles for MAN and help develop their models and plans to the point where we have a good article and a nice set of plans to add to the library. Several years ago, the entire MAN plans library was handed over to a fullfilment company outside of the MAN office. They usually forward emails with questions and comments about our plans collection. I am sorry you did not get an answer when you asked it. At least you have your answer now. Good luck with your build. I do not spend much time here at RCU. if you want to contact me you can either go to the MAN site modelairplanenews.com, send me an email, go to my blog and leave a comment, or go to radiocontrolzone.com forum and leave replies. I am very easy to get in touch with. GY

RE: Enlarging Copyrighted Plans
Feel free to enlarge and use MAN plans for your own enjoyment. The copy shop you went to did not understand the title block "All-rights Reserved". This applies to copying the plans for resale, not for the use of the modeler who purchased the plans. As for making parts for a set of plans such as cowls and canopies, this would fall under the "design Rights" issue and would be between the designer of the plans and the person making the accessories. MAN only has 1st publication rights for the continetal U.S. so please feel free to copy and enlarge all you want. Cheers, GY PS: I never received an email from you asking about this, so sorry for the delay in responding...

RE: A Very Sad Day
I was very much saddened to learn George had passed away Sunday. I had called hiim on MOnday as he was coming to say at my place in CT during the WRAM show. He was working on a new F-86 Sabre Jet for the show and he and I were comparing notes all winter between our scale models for the Static Competition. I considered George my best friend and we knew each other close to 20 years. besides being a regular contributor to Model Airplane News and the Scale Techniques columnist, he was a very supportive and very positive cheerleader for all things with RC wings. He was a regular at my annual biplane meet hosted by the Central CT RC Club in Farmington, CT and he never missed the event, no matter how hard it rained. Anyone who knew him knows he was a good, kind and giving person.I will miss his so terribly much. Gerry Yarrish

RE: New Staudacher constrution article
Laser cut short kit is available from Pat of LaserCutusa.com. Basically fuselage sides (lite ply or balsa, builder choice,) ribs, doublers, engine box, firewall and formers. Not sure of the price so go ask Pat at his site. The second model with the 2-stroke .61 engine flies great. Have several flights on it now and except for a couple of knocks and dings, it is holding up well. GY
