RE: New to RC Boating
Let's go back to square one. What shape is the pond? The length and width can make a difference in how fast you can go or the size of your prospective boat. Are you looking for another electric boat or maybe a gas or nitro burner? How much would you like to spend? A roughly 2-3 acre pond in an oval or rectangle shape (roughly) would give you some room to open up a larger boat.

RE: Radio Controlled Amphicar
My guess is that Aeromarine pushrod seals would be one way to go as they are the accordian style which would allow for suspension movement. These have also been used on stuffing boxes to seal around flex cables.

RE: beginner has some questions
Seeing how you used the word racing in your first posting, you're most likely to find fuel powered boats more popular in your area. You're also in IMPBA country. Also, when you use the word racing then the price tag goes up as it isn't cheap to be competitive. Warehouse Hobbies sells them from parts to complete ready to race boats if you haven't got the building experience yet. The Silex is their most competitive mono hulled boat.

RE: Inboard starting belt options (who makes one that can handle power)
One way to help save the belts is to loosen the glow plug when firing it up. That lowers the compression just enough to help spin it over easier.

RE: IW members
I don't know exactly what went down as I was at the Indy Masters race when we found out. I stayed at the same motel as Don Ferrette and Paul "Gooycheese" Bychowski so I hit up Don so see what happened. He had no idea but suggested a few things, mostly 2 ego's clashing might have set things off. I've been a member there since 2000 and after a while we all get to know one another, just like on this site. There are those that you can mess and kid with then those who you either don't know how to take or those who can't take a joke. What I heard may have been was two "experts" having a clash of theories that got ugly.

Set the carb at 2 turns out on the low end and 1 turn out on the high-speed needle. Usually it's a sign of the low-speed needle being lean. If it still does it, richen it another 1/8th turn.

Ok, the lake is e4asy to find. Take the Lake Station 6/51 exit south then follow it until it turns into Truck Route 51 and it'll take you right to Lake George. I'll have a black 5 x 8 V-nosed Haulmark trailer. I'm trying to get a spot right behind the Library. Also a 10' x 10' blue pop-up canopy.

RE: M&D Design G260 Modified Zenoah (Cant decide on what Hull)
Sorry to disappoint you on the Aeromarine 'rigger but there's a reason why it's collecting cobwebs in the dungeon, there are just a few things on it I don't personally like. I offered it to my boating buddy for free and even he didn't want it! The Zippkits JAE gasser isn't a bad boat and Joe has come out with one since I got mine that's an improved version of the first one. It's more labor intensive and seeing how I didn't want to mess it up, I had Mike Walker put it together for me. He's the one that assembles the other JAE's for Joe like the brushless ones. There is also the Warpath which does very well for a wood kit but then again, it would be a great winter build project. As far as a gas 'rigger that caught my eye last year at the IMPBA Gas Nat's, I was looking seriously at the Rico Racing 'rigger. There was just something about it that I really liked from it's performance to the looks of it. I did get a little sticker shock when I found out what the price tag was though. Early this year I picked up my Warlock rfrom Kevin Sheren who got it from Mark Sholund who bought it from the builder in Indiana. It sure got passed around without anyone touching it until I got my mitts on it. The JAE I sold as it really wasn't bad for the price but it was heavy and took up a lot of room in my trailer. The weight wasn't that much of a concern on the water as it helped it in the rough stuff. The Warpath has a proven track record as this past weekend in London, Ontario, Canada it pretty much swept the gas 'rigger class there. The boat does the job but I have a problem getting over the looks of it. Keep in mind that I'm far from being an expert with gas 'riggers as I'm only on my second one and still learning a lot about these beasts and just know what I like so take my posting for what it's worth. If you want a free Aeromarine 'rigger I'll be in Hobart next week for the Indy MBC Clock Tower Masters race and can toss it in the trailer. Heck, if you're anywhere near Hobart you ought to take a cruise there to watch as you'll never see an event like this one anywhere in the US! Can't miss the place as it's right behind the Library and cop shop. My JAE, a Warpath of Dale Brobst and I forget whose Rico.
ORIGINAL: kvnnina Those are both really nice hulls. Have to keep them in consideration. I was thinking about maybe even going with an outrigger hull has anyone heard about or seen the aeromarine stinger? The Insane riggers are pretty nice too but a bit pricey.
I've got one in my basement that was given to me and now I know why, it's pretty bad. For a mono, I absolutely love my Rampage. There's a newer version coming out for the 30cc engines that likes rough water. CC Racing is selling them. At less money for a 'rigger, the Zippkits JAE gas version isn't bad and also runs well in heat racing water.

RE: Any Gas Outboards???
As much as I like OB tunnels, there are probably a lot of us that started off RC boating with one with a K&B .21 hanging off it, the price of the gas OB's is getting way up there. Insane Boats recently came out with an OB lower unit and although not as attractive as the real thing it seems to work really well. They've also had a hull out for a couple of years now that should work very well with it. Look for videos of it on You Tube.

RE: rudders
After having had boats with both setups, the offset rudder is my preference as it makes removal of the cable a lot easier for greasing. That's only one advantage as the rudder will also be in cleaner water. As far as rudder length goes, you want around 1-1/8" or more below the lowest blade of the prop. With the boat laying on its left side on a right side offset rudder you want to make sure that there is still plenty of rudder that will be in the water.

Tried www.sullivanproducts.com yet? Most 'riggers use custom-made metal fuel cells, just a fancy name for a fuel tank with a higher price tag. Walt Barney at Tanks-2-U can make them in any size that you wish and has templates for most 'riggers.

It seems like what you have is the Purple Light Flying Fish or Flying Fish II. There isn't a lot that you can do with it without extensive modifications. You got what you paid for so mess around with it for a while then move up later to a better boat.

RE: Octura Wing Ding Value
Unless there's a collector of old 'riggers, it's probably not worth much. Somebody looking for a cheap way to get started might be interested. I wouldn't insult you with what it may only go for as the value to you has to be much higher. This isn't Barrett-Jackson or American Pickers so it's hard to put a realistic price tag on it. I do have to admit that it is in very good condition for its age though. You just don't see too many Octura boats around anymore.

RE: hi all
What you haven't told us is exactly what the boat is as rough dimensions really don't help. We need a little bit more information than just "I have RC Boat Gas 26CC". This can only narrow it down to maybe 50 props. You are probably hitting maximum RPM with the 6717/3 so you won't see any more speed with that prop. As far as choosing a new engine, take your pick as to what you can easily buy and get parts for.

RE: hi all
It appears from your posting that you bought a boat from eBay or one of the many sellers such as Exceed as a Ready-To-Run boat as those are the only ones that I know of that use such a large prop. The engines aren't high RPM or horsepower so you will see a gain in RPM but not speed. I would try something in the 70mm range if you want to see any gain is speed as 67mm will be too small for your boat. That prop is made for higher RPM and HP engines than what you have.

Those are mahogany hulls, not balsa and very heavy. Like was said, restoring it will not be cheap, probably the reason why the previous owner trashed it. In your area you can find some clubs in www.impba.net .

RE: miss bud nitro dynamite 15 issues
Factory settings are just a guesstimate as you have to tune the carb for where you live as there are many factors that can affect where you live as opposed to where ProBoat set theirs up at. To get a rough setting, blip the throttle just a little. If it revs quickly, it's lean. You want a slight bog when doing that. Check the glow plug as it may be bad. It may glow OK when the ignitor is hooked up yet once running and removed it'll quit working.
