RE: Mig 21 goes the Netherlands
Hey, you found a pic of the Soesterburg MiG I wanted to do. [8D] I haven't even had the time to compare the spines shape though... [:@] I also like the Polish scheme posted, with the white stripe. Might help with visibility a bit. [8D]

RE: Futaba Links and Horns
I miked the Sullivan pins at .063 inch diameter, and the holes on the DuBro HD arms at .0615 inches diameter. If you are getting slop at these locations, I'd assume the plastic is wearing away. I've used this hardware with good results, but it also depends on the size of control surface you're driving, loads, etc. If you bump up your servo arm length (along with the control surface arm length proportionally), the same amount of pin-to-hole slop will result in less freeplay in the control surface. Up to a point, where, you have to start worrying about the arm deflecting. Your installation might not allow for longer arms. I do like the hardware shown in the link provided, with the double lugs. I may have to try them. Thanks for the link! [8D] Edit: I also measured some of my Futaba servo arms (after rereading your posts), and I get very close to the DuBro hardware size of about .061 inches diameter.

Henk, if you have a chance, could you post a few more miscellaneous pics? A few more of the cockpit if you can. [8D] I picked up a Fei Bao 21 kit, and am planning to model it after the MiG-21 parked at Sosterberg at your museum. Thanks- I hope you guys enjoy your very own MiG-21! [:)]

RE: Grow Jet Parts with a 3D Printer
Where I work, we have 2 small SLA machines, a large SLA machine that can handle about 19"x19"x12", an FDM machine that is a bit smaller, and another machine that works off of a fused powder concept (forgot the process name). In my opinion, the best machine for the hobbyist would be the SLA (Stereolithography) machine, for making patterns for eventual molds, or for small non-loaded parts. I'll never get a chance to use the machines for my part making though... [:@] The machines get very pricey. Plus, the resins have a shelf life, and if you're not kicking out the parts on a regular basis, you may find yourself tossing out expired resin by the gallons... The resin is not cheap. Most SLA parts need to be post cured with a UV source to increase the strength. If anyone is interested in what kind of quality can be made, and are considering the purchase of one of these machines, I'd highly recommend making a cad file of a part you need, and sending the file to some of the several SLA rapid prototyping shops out there. One I've used is www.quick parts.com . (get rid of the spaces in the address) There are several other sources out there. Do a search on SLA, rapid, part, quote, etc.

RE: Building and Flying the B-2 Stealth Bomber
Nothing wrong at all in digging into available plastic models, when you are going to scratch build a project. You can check out curvatures of the OML in areas that are not described in drawings, and difficult to see on the full scale. It doesn't mean they are correct - but it is an opinion of the shaping (hopefully a knowledgable one [;)] ). I'm sure you know this, but there is a full scale B-2 parked inside the USAF museum in Dayton OH. I thought I had pics of it, but can't find them. [:@] Continue on, dude. [8D]

Model pics. David's new Spark, converted to a pocket-sized turbine model - handled the wind nicely. DCM's Crusader almost ARF [8D] - dig them flaps! And the JPB scale (just plane big) B-1.

It will minimize damage to your molds and parts. I was cringing, seeing the hammer and putty knife. [;)] It turned out excellent, considering its a first pull off of brand new molds! RE: Internal linkages
KC, I've used an RDS type setup on a rudder a number of years ago on a small plane. I was never happy with the slop it allowed. [:o] On a jet model, where we should be setting up our control surfaces like pattern planes (slop free, plus torque/stiffness to back it up), I'd have a hard time recommending that. Maybe the units have improved... KC, did you have better luck? I also have issues with torque tubes, unless time is spent to make them slop free and torsionally stiff... Yes, i have issues... [8D] Edit: Also, MNM, is your control surface a surface hinged setup, or centered in the center of the conrrtol surface?
